The Problem with Miley

One side of the argument is that "it's the VMAs! Outrageous shit happens here all the time! Madonna! Madonna and Britney! She's just living up to the hype!"

But the other side of the argument, outside of the fact that her entire performance was appalling, is the simple fact that there are ways to be a compelling, artist that matters in this industry without parading yourself about in a degrading fashion.

People with high self esteem do not put on a display - if that's what you can even call it - on national television.

They also don't pierce their face, light things on fire in driveways, and shave half their head (Amanda Bynes).

They also don't shave their entire head and then get parental conservatorship over their actions, belongings, and money (Britney Spears).

Miley Cyrus actually has talent - but no one would know that based on recent events - and that's what makes the entire episode sad.
