the dash likes

She couldn’t help but smile softly at his joke. “Hey someone’s gotta keep this place hidden from outsiders.” She said defending her tiny sneak attack. She listened to him explain that he was fine, knowing trusting what he was telling her was an option, but her intuition was telling her otherwise. Dot was usually good at sensing other peoples emotions, but was especially good at it with people she was closer to. “Are you sure there’s nothing you need to vent about?” She asked, making sure he knew he could come to her for anything. 

Rolling her eyes at him policing her, she sighed, “You don’t think I know that? I lost track of time per usual. But you can’t say anything you’re out here late too mister.” She scolded him back, wagging a finger at him. “Plus I’m usually out here alone anyway, I’m just used to it at this point, it doesn’t freak me out anymore.” 

“I’m sorry I infiltrated your special place, kiddo –– I know how much this place means to you,” he spoke softly, almost afraid there was someone else lurking in the shadows. He couldn’t understand why his mind was clustered with unwanted thoughts and emotions, if his mind could speak, it couldn’t. it’s almost as if he couldn’t breathe. “I’m sure. Nothing you need to worry about,” he let slip, probably a bit too soon. He cursed himself as soon as he spoke knowing the persistent girl would never let it go. 

Dot had been hiding out in the blueberry hangout all day. Having way too many things occupying her mind as of recent, Dot had found herself spending more time there than normal. Finally deciding it was due time to head back home, she cleaned up the mess she had made throughout the day, and climbed her way down to the forest floor. 

Seeing someone leaning against the tree, she approached carefully, unsure of who was there. She had grown protective over her little sanctuary over the years and didn’t want just anyone figuring it out this easy. Once she heard the all too familiar voice she relaxed almost instantly. “It’s just me Dash, we’re the only people crazy enough to be out here this late anyway.” She spoke calmly. Her eyes now adjusting more to the dark, she could see him a little bit better. “Are you alright?” She asked, her gut telling her something was up.

His eyes were alert, just like his heart was. The whole point of escaping to the most dangerous part of the city was to finally be able to let his inner thoughts come out, haunting the very forest that people were scared to enter. Maybe part of him thought that his own demons would linger and be trapped with the ones our here. That had to work.. right? But his plan was foiled when he spotted the familiar blonde, one of course trusted but it didn’t matter. He couldn’t talk about what was trapped inside his brain, not yet anyway. 

as his feet brought him through the hundred acre woods, a part of him feeling like he’d been there before as if somehow someone brought them there years before. was his darkening mind telling him something? no. it shouldn’t matter, he wasn’t supposed to think like that. he was supposed to be the one pulling tricks and being a fool –– ironically fooling people into the illusion that he was always the happiest. he was tragically succumbing to his own facade. he decided to take a well deserved breather, his lungs giving him the familiar burn that he chased so much, but he needed a distraction from his distraction. slumping against a tree, the blonde put his hand in the palm of his hands, as if it were to press out the thoughts swimming around like a circling drain that lead straight to his heart. he let out a sigh only to hear a twig snap in the distance. his head swung up, hands placed to the side of him as he sat up in alert. 

“who’s there?!”
