āHello. Your 48 hour mandatory quarantine is now over. Before letting you into the populace I need you to answer a few questions. Please state your full name, date of birth?ā
Kalissa looked over the administrator. The fact that they didnāt know who she was was sad in and of itself, what did they live under a rock or something. Everyone knew who she was.Ā āKalissa Evelyn Fray-Hale. Born October 29, 1996. Anything else?ā
āThank you. In the last 48 hours have you experienced Infected like symptoms?ā
āGod of course not. What do you take me for a heartless bitch?ā Kalissa shook her head like she thought they were crazy.Ā āWhy would I be here, if I was showing signs of being infected. Iām not out to make anyone else sick.āĀ
āAre there any ailments, disabilities, mental illnesses, or medical conditions that we should be made aware of?ā
Wanna talk about getting personal? Shit.Ā āNo. No. Yes. No.ā She answered, like the question was a damn checklist. When her interviewer raised an eyebrow as if asking for an elaboration, Kalissa sighed.Ā āManic Depressive Disorder and General Anxiety. And Iāve been told I tend to hide my feelings behind sarcasm but I donāt think that counts as a disorder.ā
āCan you give us a little background on yourself. Your family life, work ethic. What kind of person are you?ā
āI had three siblings. An older brother and a younger brother and sister, they were twins. My parents were happily married. Mom stepped down from COO to focus on the twins, I got the position when I became old enough, cause my brother didnāt want it.ā Kalissa sounded almost frustrated. She didnāt want to talk about her family.Ā āI used to watch the gremlins for my parents. Iāve always had a belief that the only job is a job well done. I like to have things done right and done the first time. There is no room for error.ā She sighed,Ā āAnd I donāt know what the hell I am. Iām a person. I like to think Iām a good person. Not everyone feels the same way. It is what it is. I want to help people the best I can.ā
āCan you list three skills that you are proficient in?ā
āThatās easy. Business management, financial matters, and I also happen to be a decent cook. I was taking college classes before the world fell to shit--- I was getting my degree in english, I was going to go overseas and teach kids in other countries as part of an outreach program my father was developing. I was two weeks away from finishing my masters degree at NYU.ā She laughed,Ā āOh how the tables have so shittily turned on that.ā
āExcellent. Now, three skills that you are not proficient in.ā
āUmmmm, Housekeeping, Carpentry, and anything that requires fixing honestly. Iām miserable at most home-y things. Kinda a downside of being raised rich. Iāve had people who were paid to do it for me most of my life.ā Kalissa shrugged.Ā āI didnāt even know you werenāt supposed to mix bleach and ammoniaĀ until my boyfriend told me.ā
āAlright, and last question. If you had to, would you be able to kill someone you knew if they became infected?ā
āItād suck. But Iāve seen how this shit plays out. You kill the infected before they can infect you. Itās a mercy.ā Kalissa sounded almost sad about the idea.Ā āI could kill if I had to. I used to go hunting with my parents all the time. But I donāt think I could kill someone I know. At least not if I was close to them. That said, Iād let someone else know, someone whoās not so attached. I think having to kill someone I know would break me, and the outpost has no use for someone broken.ā
āThank you, and welcome to Fortuna!ā
āBreak my heart then thank me for my time.ā Kalissa laughed.Ā āI see how this goes. Thanks. Have a great day.ā
