Did the fact that Agatha was native to Treowa make her faux pas better, or worse? Hard to say, but the fact remained that she had underestimated how long she’d be out, and had fully forgotten about the whims of Treowan weather.

She was quick to dive under the umbrella, almost knocking into the man in her haste to get herelf undercover.

“Very sorry about this,” She prefaced, her voice highpitched and a little frazzled. “But if we could either get somewhere very dry or to a body of water within the next few minutes I will transform into my Mer form , and that’s not going to be convenient for anyone involved.”

As she’d spoken ,she made an attemtp to get Lorenzo to start walking, for the love of God.

“Cristo, okay,” he hissed, starting to walk, keeping sort of sure that she stayed under his umbrella. “I’m going to work. Which is the Pearl Cafe. In the water. So,” he told her, glancing down at her with a frown. “There’s a body of water for you or whatever.”

It’s common misconception that Lorenzo is nothing but mean, and to consider him heartless would be to brush over all that’s hidden beneath all that meanness. Even if it’s hard to get to.

After the rainstorm that suddenly struck a few days ago, he was wiser about bringing an umbrella when the day looked cloudy, and to his luck for once, thunder suddenly rumbled and it was raining heavy within seconds after that. And he wasn’t going to get fucking soaked this time.

Making his way to work, he was trying to do so swiftly, only to notice someone that had been in a similar situation to him a few days prior. And the poor girl was already soaked herself.

“Ugh,” he muttered to himself, not wanting to be late to work again, but here he was. He wasn’t an asshole. He was bitchy sometimes, yes, but like hell he was going to lave some lady out here soaking in the rain. And she didn’t even look from Treowa, lost as hell, so that was another strike of the heart strings.

Approaching her, awkwardly, and reluctantly, he tipping his umbrella over, tucking his tail close to his body so it wouldn’t risk getting misted by the rain, and covered her head with it.

Lorenzo doesn’t usually have people come up to him and ask him for anything, considering the bitchy expression he leaves resting on his face, most people don’t tend to go for him when it comes to such things in public.

So every time it happens, he’s very surprised, and very annoyed --- that look is usually there for a reason, he likes being left alone.

Even when in his human body, Lorenzo was capable of looking strongly like a pissed-off cat. And like a cat, he absolutely hating being wet, so when rain suddenly struck the island out of nowhere, he was not prepared. And suddenly, drenched. And nowhere near the cafe. 

“Goddammit,” he muttered, trying to pick up the pace and rush his way to the cafe; he couldn’t afford to be late right now.

Then suddenly he was not being pelted with heavy raindrops anymore. “What the f—” he was cut off, looking up at the sky, only to not even see the sky. An umbrella. He looked beside him, meeting the gaze of someone he did not know.

Agatha pursed her lips. She was oddly amued by the situation - not at Loernzo’s expense, of course - and was trying harder than she should’ve needed to surpress a smile. 

“Well, at least they bothered to write a poem. I don’t think I got put as anyone’s soulmate- so you should probably make some room in your pity party.”

The smile broke through, if only as a wry one. Shifting her weight, Agatha simply regarded Lorenzo with a mild look, her arms crossing over her chest.

“ Are you going to keep pretending you don’t have fucking feelings for Nat? Just because it’s a ‘love triangle’, or whatever, doesn’t mean you’re not technically matched. Considering I’m fucking gay and they gave Nat my poem. ”

He knew there was no point to moping over the soulmate bullshit, and he might as well just shut up and forget about it, but regardless, it seemed to hurt a little. 

“If you think you can say a word without getting into a fight we both know I’ll win, you’ve got another thing coming.” Her eyes briefly narrowed, but were quick to relax. She doutbted he’d actually say something, anyway. 

“You don’t have a soulmate in this tiny village.” She countered, raising her eyebrow at him pointedly. “You really want to put your stock in this silly program after all of its other stellar choices? I thought better of you.”

“ No, I --- shut up, ”     he huffed.     “I didn’t imagine I’d have a soulmate anyways. Not that I have any faith in this shit, it’s just... fucking disappointing, I guess. ”

“Well obviously they can’t- I don’t think you’re going to go after Nat!” Her voice cracked jsut a little, raising in pitch out of sheer indignance. “Why would it bother me if you had- just because a poem said we were soulmates it doesn’t automatically make it mean anything. This whole thing is stupid.”

Despite her impassioned defence, Agatha only proceeded to look more flustered and exposed the longer she spoke- evidently it was more than a river in Egypt. 

Calmer, she continued. “If they think they can actually force us into anything they can fuck off, honestly.” She said this very matter of fact, a very blase tone to her voice. 

Lorenzo rolled his eyes, knowing that same insistent denial all too well himself, and he folded his arms over his chest.     “ Clearly it wouldn’t bother you. Not at all, ”     he spoke drily, clearly thinking the opposite. 

“ I’m not someone you need to hide that shit from, you know. I hide everything myself. I won’t spill it to Natalia. Maybe, ”    he said, a hint of a smirk in his lips.     “ Unless it might be funny. ”

“Worse, we’re in the world’s most ridiculous love triangle.” Agatha rolled her eyes. “Nat got a man , so obviously I’m supposed to pine sadly or fight you to win her love.” Hopefully her sarcasm came across.

There was a slight pause before, angrily, Agatha kicked out at a nearby chair. “God, I hate this stupid villiage!”

“Christ, calm down. I’m not gonna go after Nat. This is stupid, but don’t ruin the diner, would you ? ”     he complained, frowning at her.     “ It’s not like they’re going to force us to play out the love triangle, are they ?  They can’t make me like women suddenly. ”

“Nat.” 

Agatha blinked once- then blinked again, an expression of pure, exasperated, irritation overcoming her. 

“Are you taking the piss.”

Letting out a frustrated noise, she slapped both hands over her cheeks. It took a moment for her to compose herself, but she was at least apologetic when she did.

“Not you taking the piss, sorry. It’s just that-”

Wait a second, he got Nat? Then had she even been correct in the first place? Agatha frowned, fishing a piece of paper out of her pocket.

“…Does this sound similar to yours?”

Step up! She is the ice to your fire. You’re one in three, but will still have a chance! Be a well knit pair; kindle a fresh desire. She can Wait with you in your odd romance.

Lorenzo’s eyebrows raised as he read the poem, clearly surprised.     “ That’s.. the exact same fucking poem as mine ? ”     he said.     “ They’re exactly the same. What the hell ? ”

This had to be the stupidest shit to deal with. He groaned and slapped the paper down on the counter again, putting his face in his hands with a heavy sigh.
