history (tw: death, murder)
-Devonâs original surname and details of her â previous - family life are publicly unknown, only known privately by the Lallement family. She intentionally chooses not to divulge such information to others outside of that circle. Not because she has anything to hide, but more that she knows she canât cling to the past.
-Her upbringing was one of normality, or at least it was to her since it was all she knew. Her family couldâve been considered of nobility, not high enough to have significant power or authority but high enough to be invited to various social gatherings.
-Devon had no reason to leave that life, staying in that environment for her entire life. At least⌠her life as a human. When she was in her early thirties, something occurred that would ultimately change her life forever.
-It was a rather lavish ball, meant to be a normal social gathering. But suddenly, malicious laughs and sharp fangs shifted the atmosphere. Vampires, though the normal people of that party didnât understand that at the time.
-A massacre occurred and she was caught up in it. She was attacked by one of the vampires herself, and her life ended up hanging on by a thread.
-Maybe she shouldâve died that night. Well, actually, she did. But she came back by some miracle if one could call it that. It ended up that she had been saved by another vampire, though one who had not been aligned with the rogues who committed those callous acts.
-A member of the Lallement family, Ari, had turned her. It was startling, the changes that were happening to her body and senses. It took time, trying to navigate the new vampiric lifestyle.
-Becoming a vampire was not something that was seen as a curse to her. It was more that it was just⌠shocking. She never thought her life would turn upside down like that. The supernatural world was a maddening one, but one she was in the middle of now.
-Devon has accepted her life as a vampire, accepted that her relatives were gone but her new family was still there.
-Occasionally, she catches herself slipping, reminiscing about her life before all of it, but understands she canât ever go back. Knowing this, she tends not to talk about her past life, and keeps her eyes focused on the present.
-While she can be cautious around humans since she knows the lot of them cannot know their existence, she isnât apathetic to the general population either. Devon was once human too. Itâs been a while since then, but still.
-If anything, the humans she mostly feels distrust and tension toward are hunters, which is just a natural thing for most supernaturals.

âEVERYTHINGâS BETTER WITH COMPANY,â Rachel begins, moving to the ice skates stand to change into one, assuming the blonde will follow behind since sheâs agreed. âEspecially when youâre learning something new,â she adds, looking back at her. âLearning someone alone can be so boring, and odds are youâll end up giving up quickly since you donât have a companion to encourage you and join in the fun!â She claps her hands together. âAmazing, I trust you! When did you learn how to ice skate?â
It was true, encouragement was always a benefit. Like Devon said, anything could technically be done alone. But hell, it wasnât always that enjoyable that way. She followed behind the other, studying the different skates to try and find her size. âThatâs very true,â she agreed, smiling at the womanâs excitement about the new venture. âOh, it was many years ago,â Devon then explained, being casual despite the vagueness of her answer. Since, in truth, it was many decades ago, but the other didnât need to know that. âI think some of my siblings and I learned together.â
â a fucking pegasus - â  rosamie murmurs ,  annoyance crossing her features .   â what are we ,  a modern greece ? next iâll see fucking medusa wandering around . â  but she nods in agreement with the blonde ,  because thereâs no way magic or the supernatural isnât tied to this .   â itâs certainly not a natural phenomenon ,  so it has to be tied to our world .  iâm ready for something worse happening ,  and iâll be sure to prepare cassius - but how do we prepare a world full of mortals for something theyâre surely not ready for ? it may be supernatural ,  but itâs effecting the natural world just the same . â Â
âJust when we thought there couldnât be more madness in the world,â Devon sighed. The supernatural had always been crazy to begin with, even just with its existence in general. âNo, far from natural,â she agreed. âThatâs just it. Iâm not so sure we can prepare them. Or there may only be so much we can do,â she explained, thinking out loud. âBecause though there can be pros to alerting them, the panic that will arise may end up being another issue.â If it came down to it, then yes, they did deserve to know if it regarded life or death, especially if for a huge mass of people. But things would get worse before they got better.
âOh come now.â he states with a light chuckle. Devon could be comical , not quite as much as him. âDo you have a secret santa?â he jokes, not that it was a bad thing. Since the last time he mentioned someone, she got on the defense. âAh, so I canât wait to see what youâve shopped for me.â he states with a grin. He had his holiday shopping too. Passing by a near by store âHot chocolate?â he asks as he points over to a chocolate store.
âNo... but now that you mention it, I think a family secret santa could be fun,â Devon pointed out. âWeâve done it before. Maybe we can take a vote, majority wins.â Of course, she knew that those secret santa games usually ended with them giving each other dumb gifts that none of them could really ever use. But it was mostly for laughs. âDonât worry, you know me. I make an effort to keep the receipts in case anyone isnât fond of a gift. I wonât be offended, cross my heart,â she laughed before nodding at his offer. âThat would be lovely, lead the way.â
âYeah, Iâm fine, sorry I didnât mean to stare,â she apologized, rubbing her arm, âare you alright? I definitely did not mean to slam into you.â She knew she was awkward, especially for being what she was, but she wasnât sure how to act around people. he only people she really talked to were dead, and they hadnât been of much help yet.
x
âItâs quite alright, I promise. Absentmindedness can happen for anyone,â Devon reassured her, giving her another smile that she hoped soothed the otherâs uncertainty. Heck, the blonde had definitely been zoned out every now and then. It was fine; it happened. She glanced over her own shoulder back to the jewelry she had been eyeing. âFrankly, I feel like Iâve been standing here for far too long,â she admitted. âBack and forth debating whether to buy something.â

She looked down at the snowmen earrings, having never seen something as cute as this before. Smiling, she knew she couldnât afford it but could still appreciate itâs adorable-ness. But as she went to turn around she ran straight into someone.
Plenty of sights to see, including vendors with various handmade pieces of just about anything. There was something for everyone at that market, sometimes one just had to keep searching. Devon had been looking down at one of the tables, admiring the jewelry before continuing on her way. She turned, but ended up bumping into someone else who had been in close proximity. âOh, my apologies, sweetheart,â Devon told the stranger. âAre you alright, love?â
âDonât apologize.â he states as he walks alongside her. Today for once, he just wasnât going to banter. He wanted to enjoy the holiday. âAs if that is going to make me complain.â he actually didnât mind the shopping. He was planning on getting a few things. âYouâre not shopping for anyone special right?â he teased.
âOh, well in that case, Iâll never apologize to you for anything ever again,â Devon quipped casually, giving him an amused smile before shaking her head, just joking around. His question made her roll her eyes. âJust what are you implying this time, Enzo?â She retorted before studying the various vendors, as well as the stores lining the streets too. âWell, my shopping has been for family and friends. Theyâre technically considered special.â
He wasnât expecting anything terrible to happen, but that didnât mean that he wasnât alert. Tonight was meant to be fun, spending time with others. He always did like the holidays. it made him feel somewhat content. Walking along with Devon, brought some comfort, and ease. âYou think something else is going to happen.â he states out loud, not meaning it in the form of a question. âI want to try and experience tonight without worry.â
âI think itâs possible,â Devon thought out loud, pursing her lips together in contemplation as she looked around. âI know. My apologies. Iâve just been more alert than usual due to all of this, I guess,â she explained with a sigh. But the blonde smiled and took Enzoâs arm, continuing to walk with him. âAnd I want you to know that Iâll definitely be dragging you along to shop.â Devon would hear no ifs, ands, or buts about it. She had already been shopping with one brother so might as well do it with both.
â BE HONEST :  how much christmas shopping have you gotten done already ?  iâm afraid iâm not as caught up with it as i usually am this time of year. i could use the help. â  @immortaldawnâ
âIâve started, yes. But honestly, normally Iâm finished by this time,â she admitted due to it being a crazy time, but shook her head at Casâs confession. âThatâs nothing to be overly concerned about, love. Itâs been a busy last few months, and thatâs not even just with work.â But also with the whole crow incident, and the great unknown they found themselves in. âAbsolutely,â Devon declared, already taking his arm in preparation. âWeâre already out and about, loads of stores around us. Itâs a perfect time for shopping.â
âOKAY, OKAY, OKAY. I have made a decision!â She raises her forefinger. âThis year is the year I learn how to ice skate. Will you help?â She canât ice skate for the life of her.
âOh?â Devon chirped in interest, looking over at the other woman. She smiled at the otherâs adamant dedication in taking on a new little resolution for herself. âItâs definitely nice having someone else there to assist. Itâs possible to do anything alone, of course, though company is always an added benefit too,â the vampire declared, laughing softly before nodding in agreement. âIâd be more than willing to help, love. And I swear to do my best not to let you fall on that ice.â

Bright lights and the big city. New York City was always a nice backdrop for occasions like this, especially with the stars above and the skyscrapers looking down upon the people who were like ants from the top of the spires. âAnother city event,â Devon commented with a hum of thought as she walked alongside her brother, studying the excited people around them. âItâs lovely, of course, as they all are,â she pointed out, but tilted an eyebrow as she looked back at Enzo. âThough letâs just hope this one goes better than the last.â
Devon held the cup of coffee she had gotten from one of the food and drink booths, being casual as she sipped at it, pretending like it wasnât something that was normally bland to them. âYou know,â she began speaking again to her sister, glancing upward when she spotted the light show projection happening, since it was now the top of the next hour. âI can appreciate that they change the light show up on the building each time. The repetitiveness can get a little boring at times.âÂ
â at this point ,  iâm literally about to start considering unicorns and gargoyles ,  alright ?  so fuck it .  letâs bring out the second board .  i donât have personal assistants for nothing . â  so sheâll send the text ,  exhaustion seeping through rosamie ,  about to manifest as hysteria before she takes a deep breath .   â that doesnât exactly help ,  nor even narrow down groups .  what we need is a motivation .  a reason .  someone looking for attention ?  is this a warning ?  a bad omen ?  should we start believing in omens at this rate ? â Â
âThat or a Pegasus,â Devon added on with an amused smile. âWell, itâs clear that it has to be magic, correct? I suppose weâve at least decided on that.â If not anything else. Devon didnât know of anything else it could be. âA grudge against the council?â she offered. âThat seems plausible, though weâre still back at square one with ideas still being on a broad scale. I do agree with that itâs possibly a warning, or omen, whatever we want to call it.â Devon paused and then sighed. âBut that leads to at least one conclusion, which is that this isnât over and whoever is doing this may be planning something much worse. More dangerous.â
letting things go did not come naturally to devon or calliope, though they both liked to pretend in their own ways. thereâs a beat of silence after devon calls calliope out. of course you did. like she knows calliope, understands them deeply, rather than just rendezvous with them intimately every once in a fortnight. it makes calliope want to roll their eyes, but there are certain things that you learn to hold back from devon and having to hold back around one another would be the exact reason their relationship never progressed further than its current state. that and the fundamentally harsh social dynamic of a hunter and a vampire. â forget that, â calliope encourages. â  if we are going to co - exist, can we do it in a way that causes me less of a migraine ? talk about your favorite ⌠restaurants. or eras. or shakespearean plays. or sex positions. hell, i donât know. youâre the one whoâs old as shit - blow my mind with something interesting instead of bickering with me. iâm sure you have plenty of other people you can do that with. though iâm sure none bicker quite like me.  â
There would always be a standard level of wariness with supernaturals and hunters despite the council overseeing the groups. Devon was normally good about remaining cordial. But if one were to dissect the present situation, they would find that Devon didnât interact with other hunters the way she did with Calliope. The tension that came around the brunette was heightened, and that was just Devon attempting to be extra careful. She didnât want to lose control, not with Callie, because that the epitome of danger in regards to her mind and heart. And as Calliope was trying to convince her to have a normal conversation, Devon hesitated.
Maybe they were right, though. The whole co-existing debacle and how Devonâs instinctual irritation may be making everything worse, especially since others could notice it. Like Enzo. However, that still didnât mean they were going to become friends. âYouâre right, I am old as shit. Meaning Iâve had countless conversations with countless people, some conversations being more interesting than others,â Devon stated, giving her a small smile before beginning to walk away. âAnd Iâve lost interest in this one. Good day, Calliope.â

â I AGREE. remember when we used to do weekly dinners ?  we should bring that back. i know itâs hard when everybody has their own life, but i think unity right now is more important than anything. â  cassius wonât mention that itâd also be nice to keep everyone closer than normal, on the off chance there WAS a prominent danger coming to town. seeing everyone weekly would soothe his worry somewhat.  â do you think we could get hera to agree ? â  somehow she seems like the busiest one out of all of them.  â we can do something for thanksgiving too as well, of course. i wouldnât mind hosting. â
âThere was definitely a time when we all had less going on,â Devon agreed. It seemed like in the last century, they had all definitely been doing more in terms of work and the like, thus making them a tad bit more busy. Not that they regretted it, for they chose the life of blending in. âIâm sure we can work around her schedule. It doesnât necessarily have to be a weekend affair either,â she said with a shrug but smiled. âSure, we can give the reins over to you. Also, remember when we used to put on classical music and dance with each other in the living room? I vote for that to return too.â
â  WELL  I  DID  ALWAYS  suspect  that  enzo  was  more  of  a  foxtrot  than  a  waltz  person  so  it  checks  out  ,  â  she  chuckles  at  her  siblingsâ  antics  .  it  feels  like  always  and  forever  also  applies  to  the  lallements  .  she  quickly  finds  the  heels  in  her  size  and  makes  her  way  over  to  one  of  the  vacant  seats  .  â  if  only  it  were  as simple  as  a  downpour  .  it  wouldnât  have  caused  so  much  traffic  ,  â  hera  says  with  a  roll  of  her  eyes  .  â  i  know  ariâs  a  little  frustrated  they  havenât  been  able  to  find  an  answer  to  it  .  â  and  she  is  too  .  if  it  werenât  her  respect  for  her  sister  ,  sheâd  take matters  into  her  own  hands  and  find  out  .
âFoxtrot? Yes, I suppose so,â Devon commented in thought, smiling as the memories from a century ago came around too. âThat, and perhaps jazz. You know he loves the 20s.â She took a seat near Hera to try on the ones she had plucked from the shelf, huffing softly at the next remark. âYou make a fair point, I retract my statement. It was more like hail. Except, well, spelled h-e-l-l,â Devon joked. âI know, Cassius said the same thing. Basically all of us wish to do something, but we feel like weâre at a standstill. We donât really have the authority.â
