     The sound of a gunshot makes him wince and freeze, but the Clicker that had been prowling after the wolfdog suddenly falls silent and stills.  Balto had been cornered — he surely thought this would be the end of his fight.  That was until…

     Brown eyes lift, and he sees a human girl approach him.  The shaggy canine felt relieved — this one wasn’t one of the sick, and wouldn’t harm him.  It was rare to find someone in passing like this, and the ones before had rejected his presence.

     Still, Balto was a bit stunned to move from his cowered place.

[🔪] Ellie was making her way through the town when she had heard the Clicker. She cussed under her breath as she carefully moved towards it as quietly as she could. She didn’t want to alert it to her. It was then that she saw it was focused on another prey.

A canine.

The wolf-dog was cornered by the infected and without thinking, the girl aimed her gun at the monster’s head and fired. The beast let out a final shriek before it fell to the ground, dead.

Even the eight-year-old could tell that the older girl didn’t believe her, and she wouldn’t be the first. Many adults had been the same way, when they first met and well, she would just have to prove them wrong. Clementine looked up when the other girl finally spoke up. 

“Yeah, I have a weapon, Lee gave it to me.” Of course, she doesn’t specify what kind of weapon she had at least not until she mentions it, people didn’t seem to like her having a gun anyway. “Doesn’t everyone have one?”

[🔪] It made sense for her to have some sort of weapon to protect herself with. Everyone had to have one in this world now from what she’d been told. She always had her knife on her until Joel finally trusted her enough to allow her to use a gun to better protect herself and him.
