He yolos and pretends nothing happened. During dinner, he and Hideaki are totally unaffected by the spice while Hoozuki, Momotaro and Hiroyuki's souls leave their body.

now, imagine Hakutaku writing small notes of encouragement on Hoozuki's cup. They only come when Hoozuki's name is spelt right so Hoozuki would surely read Hakutaku's encouraging notes

Imagine as he tries to be good company to the people he meets that were lonely, he accidentally becomes too overbearing for them. This causes them to express dislike for him.

Hakutaku acts as if it was no big deal, he’ll just leave them alone, “too bad for you”. but he always, always ends up feeling like crap, blaming himself for being so “extra” or annoying/irritating towards the person. He doesn’t want to go apologise, not because he thinks he’s right but because he thinks that they’ll hate him even more so he decides not to do anything about it.

Being sad was troublesome. It is a nagging feeling and sometimes it gets so bad that tears fall. That’s why he got mad. Before he went to the afterlife, Hoozuki quit being sad and started being furious instead. He didn’t feel vulnerable anymore.

Hoozuki numbed his emotions. He only allowed himself to be angry, disappointed and probably disgusted. He didn’t see a purpose for showing other emotions “excessively”. No one was going to care anyway. Anger and disappointment helped him to get his point across so he allowed that.

Imagine that Hakutaku was the first person to make Hoozuki express himself better. In some little moments where they weren’t attempting to kill each other, Hoozuki was able to smile, albeit slightly. In truth, Hakutaku amused him and would probably be dumb enough not to notice anything so it was safe to smile a little around him.

Imagine Hoozuki once expressed sadness to an almost dead drunk Hakutaku. Hakutaku wouldn’t be able to remember anything anyway, and he was the only person Hoozuki knew that was stupid enough to drink himself half to death.

Imagine Hoozuki does this regularly. Challenge Hakutaku to a drinking contest, get him dead drunk, then spill his worries on him. He finds that he was always able to feel better, even if just a little, so he allowed himself to open up to Hakutaku. Hakutaku wouldn’t remember a thing and that was one of the reasons why Hoozuki wouldn’t mind sharing his troubles.

Imagine one day, Hakutaku decided not to get drunk but act like it instead. He wanted to know why Hoozuki was asking him out to drink with him more frequently than usual. While he “passed out” on the floor, he heard Hoozuki talking in a soft voice, seemingly afraid of getting heard.

Hakutaku would supress his urge to laugh at Hoozuki’s face. Even though he supposedly “hated” Hoozuki, the way Hoozuki spoke to him was so different. He was soft and stuttered a bit a few times.

Imagine after Hoozuki finished talking and was getting up to leave, Hakutaku holds onto him. He tells him that he heard everything, and not to worry, he won’t tell anyone. Naturally Hoozuki would get mad at Hakutaku for “eavesdropping”, but he might have felt a tiny bit bad for using Hakutaku like that. (so no one died that day)
