Honestly have a lot of Thoughts about the most recent chapter, so let's start with the end:

This entire chapter has been Lace taking psychic damage at every opportunity, but she's being almost uncharacteristically subdued right now because she's still processing things.

See, being envious of Hornet is normal for her. She was envious of Hornet before she even knew Hornet existed, the hypothetical true daughter that her mother desired. And then when Hornet actually arrives, she was everything Lace had feared--competent and confident and strong, perfect except in her unwillingness to bend to Silk's will.

In Deepnest, she was expecting to find more the same.

What she's found is so, so much worse.

Because she's coming to the horrible realization that even if she had gotten everything that she'd wanted, even if she had received her mother's esteem and attention and love... it wouldn't have held a candle to what Hornet already had.

Having visited Hornet's home caves, having met her foster mother and half-sibling and visited her mother's shrine, Lace is realizing that Hornet has been loved in ways that, until now, she could not even begin to fathom.

The feast that she thought she was fighting for has revealed itself as nothing more than scraps.

In hindsight, how easy it must have been for Hornet to deny Silk! There was little the goddess could offer that little spider did not already have.

(It wasn't easy. But Lace isn't ready to accept that yet.)

These panels alone intrigue my friend and they were too shy to ask you so I'm here asking for em!

Gods I wish I had a cool answer for you, but my governing principle for this comic is "whatever is easiest."

I'm disabled and have very, very limited energy at any given moment, so most of the stylistic flairs are the result of me doing the least amount of work possible to achieve the approximate effect I'm going for.

I'll add the hatching effects to help fill empty space, indicate a texture, or to give the illusion of depth. But linework can be a major time sink for me, so I try to keep it as simple as possible and then buff it out during the rendering process.

Honestly this a bit better showcased in Chapter 9.

I'm not sure if I answered your question, but I'm always down to talk about Art Processes. Mine just tend towards aggressively practical in nature. (Except for the hand lettering, I did that to myself and now it's part of the Creative Process for this comic, so it's probably here to stay even if there are easier solutions.)
