having being anti death penalty as one of my core beliefs is fun because it really makes me realize how even progressive people want soooooo badly for there to be a category of people they can kill. I'm sorry but "group of people okay to kill" does not exist.

It's also okay to have been pro-death penalty before you knew better.

When I was younger I was pro-death penalty. And I won't beat myself up too much about that. I was a hurt, damaged abused person who wanted to believe there could be a measure of justice for the things that were done to me.

But, here are some of the reasons I changed my mind

1.) Death by lethal injection is not as painless as we are led to believe.

2.) The death penalty is disproportionately applied to inmates of color and

3.) People with mental or learning disabilities are unfairly sentenced to death row without proper access to reasonable accommodations in their defense. (There has been a significant effort to vacate the death row sentences of those with learning disabilities.

4.) (No articles for this one. This is just a deeply held belief that has formed over the years for me.) Our government should not be allowed to execute its citizens. There should be no class of people that any government is allowed to sentence to death. Because if you give them a class of people they are allowed to kill - they will find a reason to legally kill anyone they want.

Lethal injection is just some pseudoscientific bullshit made up by people who want the death penalty to remain while understanding that people hate being confronted with death and will turn on it given time. no no listen to me. listen to me. the sports is exactly the point. like, if this were a sport where you need to cut weight like MMA or something, sure, there's some calorie restriction going on. but hockey??

the main problem these guys are going to have is that eating enough calories to maintain their muscle mass is both time-consuming and exhausting. there's a reason nhl teams are constantly giving these guys food - it's a full time job to keep them fed.

the average relatively active person needs, we know, about 2000 calories a day. hockey players can burn over 1200 calories in a 90 minute game. and it's actually super complicated for them to consume enough calories that they won't actually pass out on the ice without also having to use the bathroom during a game!! that's why fat stores are so important for hockey players - that and because during a playoffs run it's actually impossible to balance calories-in-calories out and they WILL be losing weight for the duration of the playoff run, so they need weight they can lose without eating their own muscles.

within 30 minutes after a game, a 200lb/90kg pro hockey player should consume 90-120g of carbs and 20-30g of protein or else they will not be able to maintain their performance. for reference, that's a little less than half of what a reasonably active non-athlete of the same weight should be eating in an entire day.

if we want shane to be dysfunctionally controlling about his food, here's what it would realistically look like: weighing his food and stressing about not getting enough grams of protein. forcing himself to eat cold leftover chicken and he doesn't have the patience to heat it up or season it because he's not even hungry and he's so fucking tired but he hasn't hit his macros for today. religiously monitoring his calorie output because he accidentally ran an extra mile this morning and now he has to eat 200 extra calories and he already had a plan to hit 3600 today but now he has to hit 3800 and he needs to calculate mineral and vitamin content into the difference to make sure he has enough fucking zinc to recover from getting hit during a game and NO hayden i can't go out dancing with you tonight are you INSANE do you know how many calories you can burn in one hour of vigorous dancing??
