De-center the task: instead of “Danny HAS to finish his homework before watching TV” try “when Danny’s worksheet is done he gets to watch three whole episodes of Bluey!”

Take little bites: instead of “Lou HAS to take out the trash” try “Lou can tie up the trash bag now, and take it to the bin later when they leave for work”
