I was showing AvA to my step sister the other day, and during AvA11, she had asked who the person playing Grace (Mitsi's creator) was.
I answered, "Probably Kaori, Alan's wife.", because the color of the actress's hair looked similar to pictures I had seen of her. And as his wife, she'd be one of the easiest people he could has asked to film for that brief live action segment.
But the question had piqued my curiosity, as I wasn't actually sure it WAS Kaori, and I decided to look in the credits of AvA11 to see if the actress was listed.
Well she's not Kaori, but this is opens up an entirely new question:
For those who haven't done as much probably-pushing-the-line-of-creepy research into Alan's family (it was for my master timeline/master headcanon doc) Alan's immediate family has five members. He stated this in his retelling of AvA's history: "Until then, the five people in my family shared one computer, giving me limited access."
Two of these people were likely his parents, leaving the remaining three to be two siblings and Alan himself. This is also backed up on both of his AvA Wiki pages, which state he has two siblings: an unnamed brother, and a sister, Harmony Becker, a cartoonist/illustrator.
I have literally never heard the name 'Gracie Becker' before.
But we can presume that she IS a member of Alan's family, given her last name. While 'Becker' isn't really that unique of a surname, it's uncommon enough that it makes me doubt the idea that an actress with the same last name was hired to play the role of Grace. And, also, like, those live action shots were so short, it would've been a kind of waste to hire someone for them when he could've just asked someone close to him to do it. But as far as I'm aware, Alan only has one sister--
Until I remembered something that had once upon a time confused me.
In this video, Alan very specifically says "So I waited 'til my - till my 30th birthday, and, uh, I got in a call with my sisters and…they're like really looking forward to it, cuz they're like potty mouths. My sisters both cuss all the time."
[Context: he's retelling how he never swore until he was 30.]
Alan has at least two sisters to make the word plural. He wouldn't say he has sisters unless he actually does.
But, what about what he'd said in the history video? About there only being five people in his family?
I think I, and probably the AvA wikis as well, misunderstood what Alan meant by this. I don't think he meant there was five people in total in the household, I think he meant he only had to share the single computer with four other siblings; he wasn't including his parents in this statement. Potentially because his parents might not've really used the family computer very much.
[And we know his parents aren't separated, because he somewhat frequently talks about both of them in several of the newerish AvG videos in a way that suggest they're still together.]
And, well, when you look at it in that context:
This doodle of a member of his family looks awfully similar to Mitsi's creator, doesn't it?
That's not a doodle of his mother like I'd always thought. That's Gracie Becker, one of his likely three sisters.
I say likely because while I've literally never heard Alan ever talk about the brother we know he has, let alone any mention of a second one, it's not impossible that that second-in-line doodle is of a brother. I just think it's far more likely to be a sister.
In short: the wikis are wrong. Alan has four siblings. And he's never really hidden that information, it's just taken a while to figure out because he sometimes words things weird.
And one of his sisters played Grace. It's likely the character was even named after her.
This probably has zero lore implications.
I'm serious, I really doubt that Alan put any more thought into who played this role than 'who is a woman that is easily available for me to ask to film?'. I don't think this is meant to hint that Alan's sister made Mitsi in-universe, especially since some of CharacterGrace's icons might suggest she's from the UK, not Ohio. Gracie Becker was simply her actress, and we shouldn't try to finagle her into the lore any deeper than just that.
I just thought I'd share this because I found the process of figuring this out rather interesting. And I love to call out when the AvA wikis are just blatantly wrong, especially the fandom-hosted one. That wiki is just a mess, and it's organization is dogshit lmao
