October 16, 2017-Homecoming 2017 at Illinois State University kicked off with students celebrating school spirit while enjoying entertainment, a sundae bar, the announcement of the homecoming court, and performances by ISU dance teams. The day concluded with the Uptown Tree Lighting Ceremony in Uptown Normal where ISU President Larry Dietz and Town or Normal Mayor Chris Koos flipped the switch to light the trees throughout Uptown Normal. September 17, 2016-Students and their families enjoyed free smoothies, crafts, a photo booth, and the showing of Lilo and Stitch as part of Family Weekend.
September 15, 2016-President Larry Dietz delivered the State of the University address at the Center for the Performing Arts. Dietz stated that the University remains strong and stable despite an ongoing state budget crisis that has had a devastating impact on public higher education in Illinois.
