oh I have a lot to say about this. ngl I disagree with the second statement. the evil portrayed in squid game--as far as the players' actions--resulted first and foremost for a desperate desire for money under capitalism. it was a life of death game under a system where lack of money is death, so people were made to be selfish. that being said, some were worse than others, and I think it's important to know why. they clearly already holding the mindset that you deserve to die if you don't play the game (capitalism) in the way that brings you success. it's unsurprising that sang-woo, the person who betrayed ali, was involved in the white collar business world and scammed his clients, whereas ali was a blue collar worker who witnessed his boss neglect him and other employees. then you have the 'VIPs' in a much higher position than anyone playing the game who are 100x far removed from reality than everyone. so, does being nice not get you far in life, or not get you far under a system in which ruthless selfishness is the path to success?
