There was a peace in the quiet between you, in the things that didn’t belong to the world. You shared playlists, car rides, the ache of early mornings before competitions—but not everything had to be photographed or explained.
The tattoos had never been part of any plan.
It happened on a warm, reckless off-day; just the two of you and the soft aimlessness of time off. Ilia had mentioned it half-jokingly, his fingers tracing the rim of a paper cup. “What if we got tattoos?”
You looked up from your coffee, smiling. “Of what?”
He shrugged. “Something small.”
The studio was narrow and smelled faintly of citrus cleaner and old leather. You sat on worn cushions, sunlight spilling through green-tinted glass while Ilia debated fonts and placements with careful deliberation, the way he thought through every single jump before takeoff.
When he hesitated for the tenth time, you grinned. “You realize this is permanent, right?”
He turned to you, humor steady in his eyes but softened by something deeper. “I know,” he said. “That’s the point.”
You didn’t answer right away, but something in your chest fluttered—quiet and certain.
Ilia went first. A small, delicate letter, traced into his skin on the side of his wrist. You watched it take shape, forming something simple, almost invisible. Subtle enough to pass as design, yet enough that you would know.
When it was your turn, he held your hand through the buzz of the needle. You asked for an “I,” placed just under your arm, where it would hide against fabric and movement. You wanted it tucked away, something that didn’t need to be seen to exist.
Neither of you said much when it was done. But when you caught him tracing the thin outline of your tattoo later, his thumb slow and reverent, you understood: love wasn’t always grand; sometimes it was quiet and deliberate. A mark that lived close to the pulse.
Weeks went by. The world spun as it always did—competitions, interviews, laughter that filled hotel rooms after midnight. The tattoos were just another secret, sweetly irrelevant to anyone else.
Until the internet noticed.
It began as whispers—blurry screenshots, zoomed-in TikToks, a fan post asking “is that a tattoo on his wrist?” followed by another asking “Wait doesn’t she have one too?”
People called it “Tattoo Gate”.
You and Ilia laughed about it late one night, faces washed in screen light. “They act like we committed a crime,” he said, scrolling through an endless feed of theories.
“They just love a mystery,” you teased.
He set his phone aside and pressed a kiss to your shoulder. “Then let them wonder.”
And that might’ve been the end of it—just a quiet joke between you—if not for a random interview.
A light-hearted game, all noise and laughter, questions meant to entertain. “Do either of you have tattoos?” the host asked, halfway through stacking colored blocks.
You blinked at the timing and turned to Ilia. He met your eyes, and in that split second, you could almost hear his smirk before you saw it.
“Yeah,” he said.
You echoed him softly. “Yeah.”
“What are they?” the host asked, leaning in.
“Just something small,” Ilia said.
“Nothing crazy,” you added.
And that was all.
But the internet caught fire again.
You both stayed silent.
Then came the beach photos.
Your skin salted, your hair still damp from the ocean, the late afternoon light turning everything to gold. You’d turned, laughing at something Ilia had shouted from the water—one of those effortless, unposed moments—and in that slice of motion, your shirt shifted just so.
There it was.
The small, curved “I.” Barely visible, but unmistakable.
The internet erupted again, half in awe, half in disbelief. “Tattoo gate lives !!” “It’s real??” “Who else would she get an I for?”
You didn’t check the comments. Not really. You posted it, put your phone face down, and went back to watching the sun sink into the horizon.
When Ilia posted later that night, you weren’t expecting it.
The photo was simple—warm, backlit, the ocean blurring behind you. His hand rested at your waist, fingers curved lightly against your side, the outline of your tattoo visible in the light.
His wrist was turned just enough that the world could see his too.
The photo said everything both of you hadn’t needed to.
And for all the noise that followed, you stayed where you were, sitting close under the soft hum of summer air, his arm still looped around you.

My friend needed a last minute date to her sorority formal Sunday and asked me but I’m supposed to work close. I think to myself, “no problem you’ve been covering everyone’s asses this last over week now. Surely you can get someone to swap or even just take it.” So I text the work group chat. Silence. I’m being ghosted. And it just pisses me off so much because I’m the first person you guys text and call to cover shifts but the first time I ever need a shift covered nobody even responds? Are we being serious? So I’m gonna ask the one person that might do it but he also JUST got back from a trip today so I don’t even blame him if he doesn’t want to.
I’m a 4th closer that night and normally we only have 3 so it wouldn’t even matter if I decided to call out but it’s also just the principle behind it. And I know if I texted my manager enough in advance she could get someone to come in but like, why is it different if our store manager calls you and asks you to cover but when I do it you don’t care?
I know I’ve actually just dropped off the face of the planet and I wanted to just give an explanation because this blog and all of you guys matter a whole lot to me.
I’m getting ready to clock in for my 6th straight day of work and I still won’t get a day off until Wednesday, then I work again on Thursday. So basically what I’m trying to say is I accidentally made myself useful at work and now I’m scheduled nonstop, and even when I’m not scheduled I’m being asked to come in and cover. It’s a lot.
And kinda going hand in hand with that I’m still a full time college student. I have 20 assignments due this week alone.
Obviously I’m still trying to have a social life in between all of this too, so it goes without saying I’m kinda super insanely busy at the moment.
I’m also kinda hitting a wall with writing right now. I’ll have some great ideas or someone will request something that’s really good but then my actual writing isn’t matching what I have in my head and I can’t figure out how to get it there.
With that being said, normally I would spend my free time absolutely backlogging the hell out of my writing and then post them all whenever I got a second and I don’t want to do that anymore.
I was genuinely just putting too much pressure on myself to write as much as possible and fulfill all the requests I could and it’s just not possible.
So going forward I will be posting my own work maybe a couple times a month, though this might pick up during summer when school is out. I feel bad that I’m slowing down just because you guys are so so so wonderful but just for my own peace of mind I have to, at least for now.
Again I just wanna say how amazed and grateful I am that you guys even chose to interact with me, it really does mean a lot, and I can’t wait to show you guys something I have kinda been working on that I’m really proud of!

Somehow, Ilia has always been a constant in your life. When you, at age 6, suddenly insisted on learning ice skating after seeing it on the TV for all of 10 seconds, your mother laced up skates that were almost too big and you fell on your butt the second you stepped on the ice. The slightly older boy had slid up to you and held a hand out to help you up again, introduced himself as Ilia and showed you the ropes. He showed you how to tilt your toes slightly outward and step forward to gain some speed, how to stop, turn, the lot. The grin on your face after your first whole lap around the ice without having to hold on to something warmed his heart.
His parents took you in to train with him. Even though you were on different levels, you all made it work. Throughout the years you accompanied each other to competitions, went biking to the rink together, had sleep-overs, helped each other with homework, shared meals and gossip. He became your best friend. Now you’re competing on the same ice - nationals, then worlds, and soon the Olympics.
“You’re outside edge is slipping,” you mumble softly as he groans in frustration, popping yet another jump he’d been doing for the better part of an hour. He throws you an annoyed glance but the look in his eyes softens immediately when he sees the genuinity behind your eyes.
You’re just trying to help him, he knows that. But he can’t help the frustration that flares up as his dad yells from the side “She’s right.”
“I know,” he groans, throwing his head back, coming to a stop in the middle of the ice. You’re leaning with your back against the boards, watching him as he shakes his head and skates off to gain some speed, attempting it again. This time he lands it clean, albeit a bit wobbly and it’s only slightly under rotated. It’s better than the last one though. But better isn’t perfect and if it isn’t perfect, he isn’t happy.
“One more hour at most,” his mother tells him from the stands. She’s always made sure you worked hard enough, but never too hard. “Limits are important”, she tells you both every now and then when you push yourselves too far. “You won’t get anywhere if you’re broken down from exhaustion.”
Ilia shakes his head. “Two,” he bargains. Tatiana is about to protest but you speak up before her.
“You can’t force a good day,” you remind him when he does another jump and it slips again. Exhaustion has settled into him, making him way too stiff to even spin properly.
Your words have something in him settling down though. The strive for perfection is still there, but the need to have it be perfect today seems to loosen its grip because finally he nods, accepting it.
“Alright,” he agrees quietly. “One more hour, then I’m done.” His mother gives you a thankful nod, and then she turns to Roman with a knowing look in her eyes.
They clocked it years ago, the way Ilia seemed to soften under your gaze, how he always listened to you, how you always made him see reason. And they saw the way you shied away from his gaze if he looked at you long enough, how you always leaned into him if you were close together, how you always listened attentively to him no matter what nonsense is spilling out of his mouth.
To put it simply, they were very grateful their son had someone like you in his life, but they were also tired of watching you two dance around your feelings. No matter how many times they brought it up with Ilia, he always shook his head, hiding his blush and telling them he wouldn’t risk your friendship for anything. Nothing was worse losing you over, especially not his own stubborn feelings. He doesn’t see your adoring gazes and longing looks.
All that gets thrown out of the window though when he hears someone else has asked you out. Specifically that annoying know-it-all that sits behind him in history class. When you tell him about it during warm up, he comes to a sudden stop and you continue a few paces until you notice he isn’t beside you anymore.
“What?” You wonder, tilting your head slightly.
He frowns, “He doesn’t deserve you.”
You roll your eyes at that. Every time someone even looked at you for a beat too long, a frown settles on Ilia’s face and he would mutter unpleasantries about how they didn’t deserve you and why. The reasons ranged from hair colour, pieces of clothing, and just “general vibe” as Ilia called it.
“In your opinion, no one is good enough for me,” you scoff. “At this rate, I’ll have to settle down with Mysti or something.”
“She wouldn’t mind,” he reassures you, as if the cat’s opinion is the issue.
You roll your eyes, “Well, no offense to Mysti, but I mind.”
His parents watch from the bleaches, leaning together and whispering as you two warm up, but neither of you pay them any mind.
“Still,” he grumbles, “she’s obviously the better option between her and that guy.” His outright disgust is laughable. It’s only a guy who asked you out for a date, but he’s acting as if he asked for your hand in marriage.
“Well, I didn’t say I agreed to go out with him, did I?” You tease. He whips around to you, eyes big.
“You didn’t?”
You shake your head, “No.”
He takes a long look at you, gliding backwards on the ice to be able to keep his eyes on you. Then he nods once, solemnly.
“Good.”
“I-uh, yeah he wasn’t my… type,” you explain, a blush dusting your cheeks under his intense gaze but a very telling look in your eyes. The guy who asked you out is the complete opposite of Ilia and you both know it.
He raises an eyebrow at that, but he doesn’t question it. He only nods, a smile returning to his lips, content with your answer, and with the fact that you’re still his in every sense possible except officially. That last detail will have to wait for a day when he’s feeling braver, more daring. Today you just skate together like usual, like you always have. And if he feels a little lighter in his jumps, then that’s nobody’s business.
