the jedi templeās bootleg space booze is.
1. a Specialty, 2. made with love and a complete lack of fucks 3. honestly the most Terrifying substance in existence
Every Jedi has their own particular twist - Kit Fisto uses a hallucinogenic seaweed found on his native planet. Plo Koonās is literally lethal to non Kel-Dor but is the galaxyās best known grease remover. Maceās stash appears relatively tame, but has an aftertaste that kicks in half an hour later when youāve already drunk half the bottle and cannot be removed by any mouthwash known to civilization. No one knows what Yodaās tastes like, except possibly Dooku and the only time he was ever asked his eyes went blank, his shoulder twitched compulsively and he he immediately called a retreat - it is therefore the most sought after secret in the temple. Luminara has a variety that tastes of something only describable as āpure regretā. Sheās been working on āhorrified realisationā for a while now but has only managed āembarassed mortificationā. Qui-Gon liked to infuse tea and spices into his brew, and brought back more than a few exotic species to feed his habit. Ā Obi-Wan continues the tradition, however due to the increasing stresses of war the tea varieties he uses have steadily been increasing in both bitterness and caffeine content. It is colloquially known as āthe sleepless deathā and is banned in eight star systems. Skywalkerās version is surprisingly palatable, does not cause hallucinations and packs a kick stronger than a Dug on steroids. Itās made of bugs.

it just occurred to me how funny this is, like
when the terrified villagers showed up raving about mythical beasts, George was all willing to go along with it in terms of providing them shelter and food, but he had to draw the line at sending soldiers because he fundamentally did not believe them that a griffin had popped out of legend to attack their village (understandable)
and that just makes me picture a monty python-esque scene where like some village leader is like "IT WAS A MONSTROUS BEAST! IT HAD CLAWS LIKE SABERS! YOU HAVE TO SEND MEN" and George is just like "Mmm, mmm, yes, I hear you...but like, are we sure that maybe it wasn't just...a bird?" and the leader is like "IT HAD THE HAUNCHES OF A LION! THE HEAD OF AN EAGLE! IT WAS NO BIRD MY LORD!" and George was like "Like maybe a really big, kind of aggressive, scary bird though?" and the villagers were like "MY LORD, TWAS A GRIFFIN, YOU MUST SEND SOLDIERS!" and George was like "Yeah...no, I'm probably not gonna do that...but hey, how about we all go have a nice dinner, my treat, everyone get a good night's rest here...and then tomorrow when everyone is feeling more relaxed we can circle back on that bird idea again, see how it strikes you then."
"Sewing is a gateway drug to thinking through complex problems. It seems really simple; culturally, we make it women's work. Let me tell you: real sewing at any kind of level of proficiency is a bloody magic trick. Sewing, like mold making, involves mental frames that require one to think inside out and backwards. It requires one to work on an order of operations that is often taking into account the reverse. It's a really, really important skill, and if you learn how to sew, you're mostly on your way to carpentry and welding and sheet metal work. I'm not kidding: these are planar forms meeting under rules and conditions. And if you can make a sleeve work, I swear to God, you could build a house."

Idk why but as a kid I used to get hysterically upset everytime I would imagine a gif of a rotating cow because I could never stop the cow from rotating no matter how hard I tried and I would be crying and no one knew why
This is probably an unnecessary addition, but OCD is missed in cases like these because it's deeply misunderstood by most people.
It's talked about like being obsessively neat or repeating pointless tasks is the main part of it, when really those are just potential symptoms.
The main thing behind OCD is not being about to turn off a thought. There's a thing where most people can just stop thinking about something. If it's over, it's not relevant, it doesn't matter anymore, people can turn their attention away. For OCD, that mechanism can get stuck. And some thought that was supposed to just temporarily pass through your head just stays there. An image of an object rotating. An anxiety about something bad happening. A wish that you made on a dandelion. These are all things that have at some point gotten stuck in my head, sometimes for years at a time.
The compulsions, the rituals, are the person trying to address the thought so it can go away. After all, if you're worried about the door not being locked you can check the lock. But for someone with OCD, that doesn't make the stuck thought go away. So they check it again. And again. And they made a ritual, maybe if I check it exactly five times, I'll know that it's locked and I can let this worry go.
It helps a little. It feels like you're doing something. But it doesn't solve the problem. Actual therapy for OCD involves not doing the compulsion. Instead, you ignore the thought, move around it, try not to give it space in your life. Your mind won't let the thought go normally, so instead you fill yourself with other thoughts. Other parts of your life.
It's not easy at first. Your mind fights you on it. But as you get practice, it gets easier. You learn tricks around your own mind, ways to look at the thought and go, hm. I guess I'll go distract myself now. It does get better. I promise
OCD Heritage Post
I was nattering at Best Beloved earlier this morning about how one of the more amusing parts of the Wild MagicĀ series, for me, is how long it takes Ozorne to realize that Daine is actually a threat.
Because sure, Daine is at Pirateās Swoop, but so are Numair and Alanna, and she doesnāt do anything flashyā¦except summon a kraken, and then itās Numair and Alanna who send the kraken away, so itās reasonable to assume they summoned it in the first place.
And then sure, Daine is at Dunlath, but so is Numair (and later Alanna), and itās Numair doing all the flashy things like ringing the shield like a bell and turning people into apple trees.
And also Ozorne has a bit of a fixation on Numair, so itās probably pretty easy for him to disregard reports on weird squirrels.
And then when she gets to Carthak, sheās this shy little bird-healer who rescues drowning marmosets, and Numair and Alanna are right thereĀ and much flashier, and Iām pretty sure Ozorne thinks of Daine as being sort ofā¦mildly entertaining. Sheād make a good pet.
ā¦And then of course he killsĀ āNumair.ā But Ozorne doesnāt actually know Daine can cause a zombie dinosaur rampage, mostly because Daine didnāt know that either, and so I suspect he doesnāt figure out itās DaineĀ behind all of this until pretty late in the hyena scene, honestly.
His assessment of her threat level must go fromĀ ā1/10, rather amusingā toĀ ā11/10, extremely fucking dangerousāĀ in about 30 seconds.
I donāt know why this is hilarious to me, but it very much is.

Reports say Windows 15 will be "a transparent pane of glass" that will be installed into frames on a wall; Lead developer comments, "finally, we got it right. Somehow we kept making operating systems instead and it was getting really frustrating."
It is implied through gameplay mechanics that the two kingdoms at war in chess both formally permit regnal polygamy, allowing the King to take at least nine wives of equal status, and that marriage can be bestowed as a military honour, but curiously that honour - in stark contrast to the conventional attitudes of the aristocracy - can only be bestowed upon soldiers of the unlanded class, leaving great questions to be asked of the material interests and stability of these kingdoms' aristocracies
Unless, of course, it is gameplay abstraction that we see soldiers as individuals and we are in fact commanding representations of whole units, in which case the King already has up to nine wives but only one is in command of her own company at the onset of battle, and unlanded regiments are largely self-directed (which would explain their limited effective range, lacking proper leadership coordinated with the objectives of the ruling class) with further members of the aristocracy taking charge of those which excel in the field, presumably in large part so they can take credit for the soldiers' successes and advance their own social and political standing as is often the way of things
Several people in the notes by now have brought up the mobility of the castles, and there is simply no explanation for that I can think of beyond the drift between original and translated forms of the game. The original pieces occupying that role were heavy war chariots, with some later replacing them with war elephants carrying an archers' tower, and when it spread to Europe (a continent notably lacking in elephants) the elephant part began to be omitted and the tower reshaped into a European-style fortification. There is no gameplay justification for its retaining the war elephant's moveset, it is merely a cumulative translation issue.
STOP CALLING IT A SIEGE TOWER!!!!!
It is very obviously not a fucking siege tower, like 1) in the majority of cases their designs are round and crenellated in the style of western European post-Norman fortifications, which is not remotely what a siege tower looks like, 2) why the fuck would a siege tower be in a pitched battle such as that depicted by the game, what the fuck do you think they're besieging, and 3) do you think a fucking siege tower can cross a battlefield at speed???
Like please think about what you're saying, the role and construction of a siege tower, for one fucking second, instead of leaping to the first piece of medieval military engineering you can think of that's related to the concept of towers. A siege tower unit is not going to be in the middle of a battlefield actively hunting down mounted cavalry and providing a rearguard screen to the frontline infantry, is it, like come on that is ridiculous and if you think that's a remotely reasonable thing to say you clearly have no fucking clue what a siege tower is actually for; furthermore, if you're in a pitched battle where the king himself is on the field like why are you even gonna bother besieging anywhere nearby, you have an opportunity to end this war here and now (as demonstrated by the rules of the game!!) so why on earth would you bring your expensive, cumbersome siege equipment along instead of leaving it back at camp, if the king retreats (and you can't take him in the rout) then sure then you go and grab your siege equipment but y'know it would just exhaust your troops and put it in harm's way for no reason to drag it into a battle where no siege is taking place.

I'm also interested in the armies depicted within checkers... both of which seem to be utopian anarchies in which all citizens have exactly equal rights and abilities, and follow all their rules without the presence of any leader at all
and the jarring shift whereby this transforms into a monarchy, when one citizen becomes successful enough to crown himself "king," though the position conveys nothing except greater military resources for that individual in personal battles
Gosh Iād love to give it a try. Itās just so hard to find the time with all the *describes a daily schedule that is 65% dilly-dallying*
