It’s okay to fall apart even after you thought you had it under control.

A lot of us are resistant to healing, even if we don’t realize it. It’s unfamiliar. It’s scary. And for some of us, a part of us feels like if we heal then the trauma wasn’t “that bad” and our experiences are no longer valid. 

Your trauma is always valid. Your trauma doesn’t just disappear because you’re healing. Healing, for me, means that I can cope more effectively with my trauma and it doesn’t run my life. 

Healing can also be scary because in a way we might feel like we are losing a part of ourselves. At least that’s how I felt. My trauma was such a big part of me and it took me awhile but eventually I learned that I am not losing myself, I am growing into myself. I am creating myself. I am changing and that is okay. My trauma will always be a part of me but I’ve learned that I can be so much more than my trauma.
