I’ve been reading a lot about Papyrus and his in games actions/dialogue, and…what if Papyrus is a glitch? Sort of.

There’s just,,,,, so much weird stuff about his character that applies to only his character. The lack of asterisk, looking at the player instead of Frisk, his text shaking like the narrator, changing his stats in-fight, breaking the fourth wall by instructing you to use the keyboard, being able to control his magic with a precision no other character can, I mean, the list goes on. But on top of everything, his persona never falters. Almost everything he says is a contradiction, and he lies to all of his friends to protect their perception of him. He’s Flowey’s favorite, but at the end, Flowey uses several vines to restrain him while everyone else only has two. He’s forgettable. Other characters barely acknowledge him most of the time. Why is Papyrus so strange?

Papyrus can see code. He knows Undertale is a game. I don’t know how this would come about, probably something related to Gaster, who also seems to be aware of the game mechanics, but they both live just outside the realm of being a completely integrated character. Might also be why he isn’t in Deltarune, he’s barely in Undertale. Yes Sans and Flowey and Chara are all aware of the resets, Flowey and Chara aware of the player, but there’s a far cry between being aware you’re part of a game and seeing it. He can probably also manipulate the code, hence the majority of his unique abilities, (ie breaking the laws of physics, seeing from the perspective of the player, stopping/changing his own attacks), but he can’t forcably “finalize” his own character or really change the game due to being a broken element’s limitations. Maybe he doesn’t want to. Maybe that’s why he is so annoyed by Toby, he knows he’s the creator, or at least that he’s a mod to some degree. Maybe they have an understanding of some sort and the way they behave is part of the story, like everything else Papyrus strives to maintain.

but this is something I think over a lot, especially since we already know that despite the fact that Papyrus calls himself great, he doesn’t seem to talk about himself at all. He has the most lines in the game except for the narrator, but for most of that he’s either giving information about other places, things and people, or making jokes.

There is also a LOT of diversion tactics and things thrown in our face as Papyrus things, when they’re not-

LIKE THE SPAGHETTI THING. Undyne starts to make spaghetti with you, and later during a call, she’s the one that tells you to eat their cooking and throws spaghetti at the phone.

I mean I’m guilty of focusing on the spaghetti thing, because tbh I don’t know what else to do. I know the undertale ask thing says Papyrus likes that oatmeal with dino eggs but how do we know that’s just something Flowey likes that Papyrus says he likes??

And I kinda love the idea of all the Papyruses having preferences for certain pasta dishes, I just need to remind myself of where that obsession comes from lol.

This is supposed to be ‘Papyrus’s’ sentry station, BUT.. Sans found the box for it. It seems like Papyrus was given this option, and simply went with it. The things we know Papyrus has done by himself? He painted the bridge (added the rope, too) and built a Snow Papyrus.

So all we have right now, is that Papyrus is an artist. He’s clearly a good actor, and he tells the best puns in the game (If I’m honest, MTT is equal to him, his visual style of humor is brilliant)

He knows Alphys by name. This went over my head a few times tbh.

I’m not completely sure if he has Alphys friended on their internet, but they do talk later. This probably makes the fact that Papyrus’s phone doesn’t work in the core (but Alphys’s does), weirder.

Papyrus refers to Asgore as ‘Fluffyboy’ which is a very strange way to refer to King Asgore. According to Gerson, Asgore is nicknamed ‘Fluffybuns’ from back when TORIEL WAS STILL AROUND but I guess that isn’t so strange because

both MTT and Alphys seem very well aware of that nickname as well.

…NO WAIT IT’S STILL WEIRD.

Hello all! I’m back and i’m a newly minted wife! I’ve got a lot to do and catch up on, HOWEVER, it has come to my attention that i’m almost at 300 followers!

Now, I know most of you follow me for my reblog spam and not my art, but I thought it’d be a nice gesture regardless to show my appreciation. And there’s a twist to this raffle! My Sister-in-law, Phoebix Fenikkusu, would also like to draw a prize for this raffle!

So here’s how it’s going to work; once I pull the winners, the first will be given a choice to have a piece done by me or her, and then the runner up will be given a drawing by whoever wasn’t chosen.
