Grayson Donohue - 32, M, RO. Your childhood best friend and college roommate. Now a detective. Passionate, intelligent and determined; he's dedicated the past ten years of his life to find you. He dropped out of college and quit his pursuit of a business degree, joining the police force instead. Despite having not seen him in a decade, there only difference you notice about him is that he's older. He's still the same man you always knew and he loves you more than ever.
Kennedy Rose - 34, F, RO. Your tutor now turned professor. While you didn't always get along, four years spent in each other's company saw you becoming friends. After your disappearance, however, she was distraught and soon came to regret ever growing close to you. She closed herself off, becoming cold, hard and aloof. It's going to take a lot to gain her trust back, and even more for her friendship.
Alex Colwell - 32 F/M, RO. Your ex. You dated on and off in highschool and you thought they were it, the one. Until they moved away after graduation and you mutually decided to break up. Now they're back, spurred into action by the news of your disappearance. Will you rekindle and rebuild the love you two once had or will you distance yourself from them further?
Kelsey Montgomery - 39, F. Grayson's work partner. You don't know much about her and you're not sure you want to. She has her suspicions about you. She doesn't believe your story. Decide if she can be trusted to help you or she deserves to be left in the dark.
Nora & Callie - 57 & 26, F & NB. Your mother and sibling. They were devastated by your disappearance but they each had varying hopes of you ever returning. While still curious about what happened to you, they mostly just care that you're safe and back home where you belong. Although... how safe are you really?
Demetri Renfield - 58, M. Your estranged father. While you have fond memories of him, he left when you were twelve and you hadn't seen or heard from him since. Now he shows up a day after your return and you have your own suspicions about him. Certain elements of his story aren't adding up and his timing is a little more than coincidental. Can you really trust him?

After reading the demo for the millionth time, I have some very important questions. Is insane clown posse callies favourite band? If so what’s their favourite song? What about the ros, their favourite bands and songs?
oh yeah callie loves icp, their favourite song is probably grave yard girl. they sing it all the time, their favourite line being “you’re more than just a corpse to a psychopathic clown”. nora hates it lol but she is used to it.
gray’s a big interpol guy. so many bangers to choose from but his favourite would have to be rest my chemistry.
kennedy is an alt rock girlie, her favourite band is garbage <3 and her favourite song is i think i’m paranoid
you might not guess by looking at them but alex looooves 90s rap, specifically the notorious b.i.g and what’s more classic than hypnotize?
There are French people of Polish descent and there are some French people with Irish last names but it is rare. It could just be that his parent(s) saw the name Grayson in a TV-Guide page for a made-up American soap opera and liked it enough to give it to him. As a Pole that could make sense to me.
I've only recently played through what is available and this is maybe the second Polish character in an IF I've ever read. Grayson makes me very happy. I'm a little perplexed by how he can have a Polish accent while having the first and last name Grayson Donohue but I'm neither his writer or his parents and am not too familiar with his upbringing. It's all in good fun though. I just think its amusing and cute.
ive answered this before here, but i might just add it to the directory for ease of access in the future.
ive also provided a list of potential names id give grayson here if you're interested in that lol.
ask game! dearest writer, it's time to do some introspection!
i was tagged by @concurrent-if, you're so sweet thank you! i love tag games sm!
1. what was your first favourite book?
cirque du freak by darren shan! i loved the whole series but truly nothing can compare to the first book. i will never get the scene of the two main characters faking one of their deaths out of my head. i've been desperate to reread them for a long time but i just haven't found the time.
2. what is your current favourite book?
i first read heart shaped box by joe hill when i was in high school and it's always been in the back of my mind because of how much i enjoyed it, and after rereading it a few weeks ago, it really solidified it's place as my favourite book. honestly anything by joe hill could be number one, i'm slowly working my way through all his published works so that answer might change when i finish.
3. what genre is your favourite, reading or writing!
i love crime and mystery novels, obviously mirror mine is a mystery and sci-fi love child, but i would say that's where the overlap between reading and writing ends. other genres i love reading are romance, dystopian and horror (not necessarily together but i'm not gonna say no), whereas with writing i'd say the only other one i lean to most is action.
4. favourite trope?
there are so many good ones... came back wrong, stuck together, miscommunication, revenge. i love mimics and possession in horror, just the idea of someone you know and trust wholeheartedly betraying you against their will really gets me. also nothing better than an unreliable narrator.
5. if you could, what world-building or story would you love to have written yourself?
i love the intricacy of the hunger games, suzanne collins is such a literary genius that it truly baffles me sometimes. if i could write anything half as good as she does, i could die happy.
6. your favourite line (or three) that you've written?
i can't say that i have an all time favourite since my writing has changed so much since i first started but i really like this part of the beginning of chapter four:
you watch him walk out the door and your throat closes in on itself until it's impossible to breathe. you're a child once more, transported back to that fateful day he left you behind, and you feel as though the hole in your chest has been torn open that much wider. the only difference is that now you know why he's leaving.
7. favourite medium to experience a story? (book, if, video game, movie, etc)
definitely reading, both traditional and interactive novels. i love being transported into a story and just letting my own imagination take over. I know it's not the same for everyone, but when i read, i can see the story play out like a movie in my mind which i think is better than any real movie that exists.
8. favourite character versus your favourite character to write: who would win?
my favourite character is a tough one because there are so many that i'm drawn to for various reasons but if i had to choose one, i'd probably go with lara croft. but the og lara, not definitive survivor trilogy lara (though she has grown on me the more i play the games).
my favourite character to write is way easier: grayson sad man donohue. nothing more fun than heartbreak personified, am i right??
lara wins every time. i have no doubt about that.
9. what story keeps inspiring you to keep writing?
this is going to feel like such a cop out answer but i'm truly inspired all the interactive novels that i see on this app. new ones are being created every day and there are so many good ideas that it just makes me excited to be in the space, let alone a semi active participant in it.
10. random fun fact about you, your writing, your interests!
a random fact about me is that i love crossfit, training myself and watching all the competitions online.
and now the most nerve-wracking part: thinking of people to tag lol. feel free to ignore if you've already been tagged or if you just don't feel like doing it, i won't take offence I promise :)

Callie flags down the bartender, an older man with smile lines around eyes that contain eons of wisdom, and orders a rum and coke. He turns to you then, eyebrows raising slightly and you can tell by the brightness in his eyes that he recognises you. Not so shocking you suppose when your face was plastered on TV this morning but you still feel slightly unnerved by it. Thankfully, he doesn't mention it and simply nods when you ask for water.
"Where's Shin?" you ask and Callie looks away from you to the surge of bodies on the dancefloor.
"Oh, he's there somewhere," they reply with a shrug before holding up their hand for you to see, their ring and index fingers crossed over each other. "Shin and I are like this; we always make our way back to each other. If I don't find him, he'll find me."
"That's nice," you tell them, earnest. "I'm glad you have someone like that. Especially with -"
"Let's not talk disappearances, ok?" They look at you for a long moment and you think you can see the shine of tears in their eyes before the moments gone and they're grinning at you. "Tonight's about fun! And dancing! Yes, more dancing, let's go do that."
callie's route is mostly fun and lighthearted but there is the usual angst. and the horrors, can't forget the horrors.
good-is news everyone; I've gotten a new laptop so I can FINALLY get back to writing in the 21st century (sorry my pen and paper friends, you are once again being retired).
in the interim, I've completed callie's route! this means that I just have graysons , alexs and the poly route left.
lets see what the coming weeks hold for me - hopefully more writing lol

first of all, how could you?? second of all, i love your mind. but third and most importantly of all, this is strikingly similar to something that happens in game and so i unfortunately can't write it without giving major spoilers.
summary: the events leading up to mc and alex's first break up.
pairing: f!alex x mc
based on the request: based on this ask. in it you mentioned that the reason why MC broke up with Alex the first time was because Alex were unserious all the time and MC didn't think their relationship meant anything to alex. so my drabble request is about this first breakup of MC and Alex (and maybe how they got together again?). starting a few weeks before the breakup, where we can see why MC thinks Alex was unserious about their relationship, then the breakup happens, depending on how the break up went (angry/friendly/with tears) reaction from maybe Nora, Callie, Grayson and the thoughts from Alex
unedited//okayyyy here's the female version as promised! like i said in the other version, i do have plans to write a part two, i just don't know when i'll get to it. so... enjoy (again)!
the afternoon sun feels warm on mc's face as they make their way through the school grounds, grayson dragging his feet behind them. they're glad the day is over and that its finally the weekend; as exam season draws closer and closer, they're ready for a break from the endless studying.
"im just saying," grayson continues with a soft huff. "movie night is our thing. i don't want to end up third-wheeling you and alex."
they sigh, glancing over their shoulder at him with what they hope is a reassuring smile. "you're not gonna third wheel, gray. it'll be fun, I promise."
he keeps his eyes on the ground, his arms crossed over his chest. "you know i don't like to share, mc."
"i'll make sure there are enough snacks to go around." they turn around to face him before offering him their hand. "deal?"
beaming, they grab hold of his arm before continuing on their way. "excellent! let's go share the good news."
by the time they reach the rugby field, practise has already finished. some of the players are sitting in the stands, packing up their bags, the rest are scattered on the grass still, talking and laughing, red faced and sweaty. mc pauses as they search for alex, spotting her with two of her teammates before heading towards them without hesitation.
"did you see o'malley's face?" alex says, pushing her hair out of her eyes. "i thought smoke was gonna start coming out of his ears." the other two begin to laugh as alex puffs out her cheeks and begins to shake, before sinking into a tackle stance. she relaxes after a moment and joins in the laughter.
"next match, he should go out first," the boy on the left says. "the other team will be scared shitless."
they're laughing again by the time mc reaches them, grayson distinctly hanging a few steps behind. "hey lex," they say, pulling her attention away from her friends and alex smiles when their eyes meet. "i came to see if you're free for movies tonight."
sge opens her mouth to speak, he shoulders raised in a shrug, when the girl on the right beats her to it. "we actually have plans," she says as she reaches up to tighten her ponytail, flicking the long, blonde locks over her shoulder. she flutters her eyes and smiles at alex. "that new pizza place that opened up, we said we'd go tonight."
alex grins back at her. "i've been dreaming about pizza all week; i think i even started eating my pillow in my sleep last night."
the blonde laughs as she reaches out to squeeze alex's arm, mc's eyes tracking the movement with rapt attention, a pit opening up in their stomach. "you're so funny," she tells her. "i could listen to your jokes all day."
"careful mel, or she might start doing comedy shows," the boy chuckles. "that's the last thing anyone wants."
"i'm hilarious and you know it," alex retorts with a grin. "those shows would sell out; we'd make a fortune."
"oh, god; step back everyone, we gotta make room for colwell's giant head!"
shifting uneasily on their feet, mc glances back at grayson in search of support but the look of discomfort on his face doesn't exact instill hope. looking back, they clear their throat and suddenly three pairs of eyes are staring at them.
alex quickly shakes her head, dragging a hand through hwe hair as she thinks. "sorry, what were you saying, mc?"
looking between the three rugby players, the words become lodged in their throat, their eyes locked on mel's hand around alex's arm, her thumb gently rubbing back and forth. she pays no attention to it, to her touch, as if its the most natural thing in the world, as if she's dating her instead of them, and time feels like it stops. they suddenly wish they'd never come down to the field in the first place.
"mc?" alex says again and their eyes snap up to his, their face warm.
"um, maybe we could join you?" they say quickly, their tongue feeling heavy in their mouth.
again, mel beats them to the punch. "sorry, mc," she says slowly, their name sounding wrong coming from her. "teammates only. right, lex?"
they recoil slightly at her use of their nickname for alex, as if she's taking it away from them, claiming it as her own. it shouldn't bother them, it's just a nickname, anyone can use it, but the sweet smile she gives them makes it seem more malicious than that.
alex doesn't seem to notice. "yeah, sorry, mc," she says with an apologetic smile, shrugging as if the situation can't be helped. "kind of a team rule. we gotta bond on and off the field, you know?"
"bonding... right." they bite down hard on their bottom lip in fear they'll begin to tear up. why, oh why did they come to the field?
"i'll call you after," alex adds, stepping closer to them to kiss their cheek and they close their eyes, savouring the warmth of her lips pressed to their skin but the moment is over all too quickly when she pulls away, already wrapped back in a conversation with the other two. and before mc can say anything, the three of them are walking away to get their bags. despite the sun beating down on them, they feel suddenly cold watching her walk away from them. it shouldn't hurt and yet it does, the gnawing pit in their stomach threatening to swallow them whole.
"that could've gone better," grayson says softly as he comes to stand next to them. "are you okay, mc?"
they glance up at him, eyes burning with unshed tears, and force a smile onto their face. "yeah," they say and he frowns but he doesn't call them out on the lie, and for that they're grateful. why didn't they listen to him in the first place?
sweat begins to form on the back of their neck as they walk up the pathway to alex's front door, the heat relentless even at the late hour. despite the discomfort, mc relishes in the warmth, knowing just how much they'll miss it once winter comes around. better to savour it while it lasts.
they knock on the door, rocking on the balls of their feet in anticipation of the evening ahead. with exams and their respective extra curriculars keeping them busy, it'll be good to finally get some quality time with alex. they miss her desperately despite seeing her everyday at school; date night couldn't have come sooner.
the door swings open a moment later to reveal alex's mother, dana, a confused smile on her face. "mc, it's good to see you! what can i do for you?"
"i'm just here to pick up alex," they say, gesturing vaguely towards their car parked in the driveway. "we have plans to go bowling."
at this, she frowns, her eyebrows furrowed impossibly close together. "oh! but... alex isn't home? she and her sisters are at the arcade. she didn't tell you?"
now it's their turn to frown. "no, she didn't." they mentally run through all their previous conversations, their plans for the date, what to do, when to go. it was definitely supposed to be tonight.
dana stares at them, concern etched deep on her face, and as they realise the silence between them has begun to stretch, they rush to fill. "actually, i think i just got mixed up," they say quickly, their face warm, avoiding her eyes and already turning away from her. "sorry for bothering you."
"it's fine, mc; just hang on a minute," she calls after them but it's too late. they jump in the drivers seat, tears welling in their eyes as they hastily clip in their seat belt and reverse out of the driveway. when they spare a glance at the glance in the review mirror and see that dana's still watching them leave, the damn suddenly breaks and the tears begin to spill over.
it was supposed to be tonight.
alex rings the doorbell and takes a step back, taking a brief moment to stretch out her shoulders while she waits. practise has been brutal the past week and she's really beginning to feel it, the tension in her muscles somehow sinking deep into her bones. she's desperate for some relief.
the door opens and she slaps on her brightest smile. "hey, cal; is mc home?"
they return her smile and nod. "they're upstairs," they say before taking a cautious glance over their shoulder. upon seeing the coast is clear, they gesture for her to come closer. "they're being bad."
she has to stifle a laugh, nodding very solemnly as she straightens up once more. "i won't tell anyone," sge promises and they eye her for a moment before thrusting out their pinky to her. again she fights the urge to laugh as she hooks her pinky around theirs and she can't help but wonder what mc had to do to buy the eleven year old's silence.
she's ushered inside after the pinky swear and she gives a quick wave to callie before heading upstairs, following the familiar path to mc's bedroom. inside, the room is empty as expected and she heads for the open window, using the conviently placed trellis to climb up onto the roof.
mc sits with their knees pulled to their chest, eyes staring off into the sky as they flick a lighter on and off, an open box of cigarettes beside them.
"callie mentioned you were being bad," she chuckles as she goes to sit next to them. "i see now what they meant."
they don't reply, they don't even look at her, simply continuing with the lighter. click, click, click. on, off, on.
she furrows her eyebrows and scoots closer to them, leaning forward to get a better look at their face. she notices then that their eyes are red and puffy. "mc?"
"what are you doing here?" there's no hostility in their voice, no curiosity, no genuine emotion she can hear. they just sound defeated.
"i wanted to see you," she says, shrugging.
they scoff. "no, you don't."
"what? of course i do."
"no, you don't," they say again, finally turning their head to look at her. "you didn't want to see me four days ago for our date."
she recoils slightly, confused. "wait, what?" hadn't they agreed on tomorrow? she could've sworn... "ah, shit." the memories come flooding back in quick succesion; date with mc friday, study group tuesday. she'd gotten her days switched around.
"you don't want to talk to me either," they say unprompted. "you never answer my text messages."
"that's not fair," she retorts. "you know how busy i am with rugby and exams and family."
they roll their eyes. "and i'm not? you think you're the only one dealing with those things?"
"that's not what i meant." she heaves a sigh and drags a hand through her hair. how did she things get so jumbled up?
"i always make time for you," they say quietly, eyes back on the lighter. click, click, click. "no matter what."
"mc..." she wants to reach for them, to pull them in hee arms and hug them tight until the sadness in their voice and their eyes melts away, but she finds herself stuck.
"does our relationship mean anything to you?"
the words hit her harder than any punch, harder than any tackle she's experienced. it leaves her breathless, choking on air as its pulled straight from her lungs.
"of course it does!" she stares at them, incredulous. "how could you think it doesn't?"
another scoff. "well, shit, alex; what else am i suppose to think? your actions speak way louder than anything you could say." click, click. she can't look away as their thumb flicks down the flint. "i think we should break up."
the world stops, crashes, burns. click, click. on, off. the realm of alex up in flames. "what?" her voice cracks, eyes beginning to sting with unshed tears.
"you should go," they say, gesturing back to the trellis without looking at her. hee eyes follow the movement, looking between them and the trellis. she doesn't want to go. she can't. not like this.
"this is it?" she whispers, her heart breaking his chest. "mc..."
"alex, please." they plead, their eyes closed tight.
wordlessly, she stands and retraces her steps to the edge of the roof. tears stream down her face though she cries quietly, not wanting to draw attention to herself. as she begins his climb down, she allows herself a last glance at them.
this is not the end, she swears. i'm going to make this right.
sorrry if this is a stupid question, but am I supposed to be able to see/read this post (https://www.tumblr.com/if-mirrormine/807937786476920832) ? cause whenever I click on read more it just says no post found 😭
i think it's because the original post is private. this is the one that posted prematurely lmao so when i finished it and set it to public, it didn't appear at the top of my blog. so i reblogged it and put the original on private again.
i'll set it to public to see if that changes anything, you're all just have to ignore it when you go deep diving on my blog lol.

unedited//alright so... been awhile since i posted any kind of writing. IM NERVOUS. there's a second part to this request, mainly about how they reconciled, but i was thinking it would be best to split these into two parts. i cannot say when ill get to that second part but here at least is the first.
the afternoon sun feels warm on mc's face as they make their way through the school grounds, grayson dragging his feet behind them. they're glad the day is over and that its finally the weekend; as exam season draws closer and closer, they're ready for a break from the endless studying.

beaming, they grab hold of his arm before continuing on their way. "excellent! let's go share the good news."

"it's fine, mc; just hang on a minute," she calls after them but it's too late. they jump in the drivers seat, tears welling in their eyes as they hastily clip in their seat belt and reverse out of the driveway. when they spare a glance at the glance in the review mirror and see that dana's still watching them leave, the damn suddenly breaks and the tears begin to spill over.
it was supposed to be tonight.
alex rings the doorbell and takes a step back, taking a brief moment to stretch out his shoulders while he waits. practise has been brutal the past week and he's really beginning to feel it, the tension in his muscles somehow sinking deep into his bones. he's desperate for some relief.
the door opens and he slaps on his brightest smile. "hey, cal; is mc home?"
they return his smile and nod. "they're upstairs," they say before taking a cautious glance over their shoulder. upon seeing the coast is clear, they gesture for him to come closer. "they're being bad."
he has to stifle a laugh, nodding very solemnly as he straightens up once more. "i won't tell anyone," he promises and they eye him for a moment before thrusting out their pinky to him. again he fights the urge to laugh as he hooks his pinky around theirs and he can't help but wonder what mc had to do to buy the eleven year old's silence.
he's ushered inside after the pinky swear and he gives a quick wave to callie before heading upstairs, following the familiar path to mc's bedroom. inside, the room is empty as expected and he heads for the open window, using the conviently placed trellis to climb up onto the roof.
mc sits with their knees pulled to their chest, eyes staring off into the sky as they flick a lighter on and off, an open box of cigarettes beside them.
"callie mentioned you were being bad," he chuckles as he goes to sit next to them. "i see now what they meant."
they don't reply, they don't even look at him, simply continuing with the lighter. click, click, click. on, off, on.
he furrows his eyebrows and scoots closer to them, leaning forward to get a better look at their face. he notices then that their eyes are red and puffy. "mc?"
"what are you doing here?" there's no hostility in their voice, no curiosity, no genuine emotion he can hear. they just sound defeated.
"i wanted to see you," he says, shrugging.
they scoff. "no, you don't."
"what? of course i do."
"no, you don't," they say again, finally turning their head to look at him. "you didn't want to see me four days ago for our date."
he recoils slightly, confused. "wait, what?" hadn't they agreed on tomorrow? he could've sworn... "ah, shit." the memories come flooding back in quick succesion; date with mc friday, study group tuesday. he'd gotten his days switched around.
"you don't want to talk to me either," they say unprompted. "you never answer my text messages."
"that's not fair," he retorts. "you know how busy i am with rugby and exams and family."
they roll their eyes. "and i'm not? you think you're the only one dealing with those things?"
"that's not what i meant." he heaves a sigh and drags a hand through his hair. how did he things get so jumbled up?
"i always make time for you," they say quietly, eyes back on the lighter. click, click, click. "no matter what."
"mc..." he wants to reach for them, to pull them in his arms and hug them tight until the sadness in their voice and their eyes melts away, but he finds himself stuck.
"does our relationship mean anything to you?"
the words hit him harder than any punch, harder than any tackle he's experienced. it leaves him breathless, choking on air as its pulled straight from his lungs.
"of course it does!" he stares at them, incredulous. "how could you think it doesn't?"
another scoff. "well, shit, alex; what else am i suppose to think? your actions speak way louder than anything you could say." click, click. he can't look away as their thumb flicks down the flint. "i think we should break up."
the world stops, crashes, burns. click, click. on, off. the realm of alex up in flames. "what?" his voice cracks, eyes beginning to sting with unshed tears.
"you should go," they say, gesturing back to the trellis without looking at him. his eyes follow the movement, looking between them and the trellis. he doesn't want to go. he can't. not like this.
"this is it?" he whispers, his heart breaking his chest. "mc..."
"alex, please." they plead, their eyes closed tight.
wordlessly, he stands and retraces his steps to the edge of the roof. tears stream down his face though he cries quietly, not wanting to draw attention to himself. as he begins his climb down, he allows himself a last glance at them.
this is not the end, he swears. i'm going to make this right.
