1. Mobile queen conch hatcheries strive to help the species, engage Caribbean communities
“In a bid to slow the species’ decline by helping more conch reach reproductive age, scientists are deploying an innovative set of solar-powered mobile hatcheries to shelter them through their vulnerable early life stages. […] The aim is not just to build nurseries that will nurture and protect developing conch, but to create community learning spaces where students and other visitors can gain knowledge about the species’ life cycle and participate in restoration efforts[….]”
2. Community forest confirms climate funding to 2030
“One of several community forests that will receive support from phase two of the government's Trees for Climate programme, NECF said the extended funding "provides the confidence and stability needed to continue creating woodlands". […] During the 2025-26 season, NECF planted 125,375 trees and created 158 hectares of new woodland, hedgerows and open space habitats across the region.”
3. New renewables pilot seeks to generate power, and financial returns, for First Nations communities
“A new federal grant will provide $10 million to First Nations clean energy projects[….] The First Nations Clean Energy Projects grant will help up to two projects sized at 1 megawatt (MW) or higher to move beyond feasibility and towards financial close. […] “The pilot grants aim to support projects with First Nations leadership, decision-making participation, and the potential to generate long-term financial returns for First Nations people.””
4. To save the reef, this island is raising clams by hand
“For generations, Palauans have harvested the clams to feed their families. […] Across the entire Pacific, populations have dropped by roughly 80 percent over last century [due to climate change and tourism]. […] Last month, Conservation International backed the opening of a community-based hatchery built to grow the country's aquaculture industry and take pressure off the struggling wild population.”
5. Sage Geosystems brings its first next-gen geothermal plant online
“The startup is producing power from its first next-generation geothermal plant. The system is just the third of its kind to come online in the U.S.[….] The Houston-based firm said the 3-megawatt pilot plant has performed reliably and as predicted after more than 120 days of grid-connected operations. […] Cindy Taff, Sage’s CEO, said the results will “directly inform and de-risk” an upcoming collaboration in Nevada with Ormat Technologies[….]”
