The Conclave

Well this has been a long time coming. You know I was planning to have a very long rant but that I realize that it would burn me out easily and would just be a very long wall of text for you to read. So I’ll do these small rants on sections of complaints of this game.

So TMS #FE not a bad game per say. It has a great battle system and visuals but story wise it turns me off. That and the fact it glorifies an the Japanese idol industry which is known to treat the talent pretty badly, but that’s a rant for another day.

No today we will talk about what I believe is the worst character in the game objectively. Is it the bland protagonist Itsuki, the ever annoying Barry or the almost no existent villains? No be Ayaha AKA Tsubasa’s older sister. Why? Two words: wasted potential.

So for those of you who don’t know (which is probably a lot) or need a recap Ayaha was a pretty popular idol until she disappeared five years prior to the beginning of the game. This event was the catalyst for Tsubasa (and by extension Itsuki) to become Mirage Masters and search for Ayaha. They find  and rescue her literally in the next chapter. Afterwards Ayaha becomes the secretary for Fortuna Entertainment and is in charge of quests. But in story she does nothing. She doesn’t become a party member or even as a back up member. She isn’t in the cheesy menu screen or participate in the opera of light even though everyone else does. She doesn’t even participate in her own sister’s character quest. The most she does is get kidnaped again and it turned out just to be an illusion of her.

As you might have guessed the plot point of Ayaha of being capture gets resolved too soon. If the plot was stretched out for a few more chapters we could have gotten an actual reoccurring villain rather than a monster of the week plot and give Tsubasa character development that is more than: Tsubasa is not confident in an aspect of being an Idol, her friends help her, rinse and repeat FOREVER. Baring that she could have at least have her own character quest, maybe even become a party member, the team is lacking a draco rider and another axe user. But even if she didn’t become a party member there were still interesting stories to tell, as she does mention how she felt inferior to other idols and had to watch as the perceived more talented idols had to drop out which could have some really good character development. She could have also helped out or basically took Barry’s place as a trainer. That would gotten rid of one irritating character at least.

Itsuki took the typical issue of a JRPG protagonist being the least interesting character in the entire 10 person party and turned it into a legit personality trait many feel about themselves. The game utilized it to tell his tale as one of a guy learning to be proud of how much he pushes his friends to be the stars and protagonists that they are. Itsuki is a character that says it’s ok to not be the star because those who soar need wind beneath their wings in order to do it. Be there for others, and if you’re good at it, then make it your own and get better; turn it into something nobody can do without because it’s so genuine and caring.
