My favorite form of redemption arc is “I hate that I have morals now”

Like “I realized that I was in the wrong and now I will work hard to atone” is good and all, but “how dare you infect me with morals” will always be so much more entertaining

online numbers can really fuck you up when it comes to your creative work because you're sharing something you worked on with all your heart but it's very important to remember there's actual people behind those numbers. even if it's 1. that's one whole actual person. that's a human being who said "haha nice". that's a connection with a REAL person with a REAL life and REAL thoughts and feelings and experiences. like. damn. that should mean something

ive always rly liked the idea of a member of a group of adventurers having what everyone assumes is very well trained hawk and then at the end of their journey its casually revealed that thats actually just his buddy whos a shapeshifter and just rly likes being a hawk

the guy also like thinks everyone knows bc he never tries to hide the fact that the hawk is a person but everyone assumes hes always just joking. like the others being like "damn its crazy how he knows exactly what you want him to do its like he knows english or something." and the guy is just like "well yeah thats his first language so ofc he's fluent??" and they all go "haha good one" and move on, leaving him confused

they just think hes a quirky guy that really loves his pet and says things like "the 9 of us" even tho there are clearly only 8 people! he just cares about the bird so much he counts it as a group member haha !

and he loved those fucking kids. he spent too long on that aircraft carrier being an actual scientist, THAT was his problem. flying him to and from sanfran would've taken too long but they wouldn't have needed the amnesia drugs and the sedation anymore, just put his ass in front of those kids again and make him look them in the eye and see if he can still say no without throwing up in his mouth

#and you know what? maybe he would've said it still. but he WOULD have thrown up#and it would've eaten him alive and genuinely genuinely it would've ruined the rest of his miserable life on earth#more than the apocalypse he signed the planet up for ever could#grace can only distance ignore avoid his way out of his problems so far#make him look cáceres in the eye. make him TRY to teach her everything he knows for those three days#wrap his hand around the trolley lever grab him by the hair and force his head to look at what he's doing

it’s simple: when I like an adaptation, everyone complaining about changes to the text is a whiny baby who needs to get over themselves and accept that sometimes you have to change the story to enrich the experience/work within the medium. when I don’t like an adaptation, it’s because nobody else understands the core themes of the original work and would be better off just creating a story independent of what they’re trying to adapt.

"rocky would hate stratt because she hurt his bestie" plausible, even likely. "rocky wouldn't hate stratt because he understands the stakes of needing to save the actual world" nuanced, intellectually stimulating. "stratt would hate rocky because her ex wife whom she killed is happier with him" intriguing, avant-garde.

#7 billion fucking people on earth weren't enough but you'll die for the alien. sure. no yeah. sure.

“this fic will have only ten chapters” and other lies writers tell themselves

“this is a one shot, I swear” the infamous sequel

and the third part: “i won’t start writing this, I have to finish other things first”

“I can finish writing this” the fanfic no one asked for.

“I swear, that’s really the final chapter count.”

“i’m going to get this done and post it by tomorrow”

“I’m totally not going to start writing a new fanfic before I’ve finished the last one,” says the person who is now writing four.

“I’m totally in the zone to write this one fic. I can finish it in two days.” Muse is gone by then

“I have the last 20,000 words outlined, I just need to sit down and write them.”
