Oh kriff (kriff?), this guy was nervous, Ben could sense the unease in the other fella (he could?), but he did not need to. He could tell. Backing away, nervous laughter. Ben got that a lot, unfortunately most of the time it was from people who didn’t need to worry about him. Alas. Here he was again, trying not to scare anyone. “until I come across a robbery by snowball, it’s gonna stay off my radar.” Ben said, hoping to keep the mood light. “Ah, look-,” Ben’s hands were still raised, he lowered them slowly. “I don’t get it- what you were just able to do.” Imagine having powers like that. Ben couldn’t. “But it was good. We’re- see, no one else is coming. They don’t bother to anymore.” A poor buddy system choice, for cops anyway. But with Ben- whatever. He’d go off on what they referred to as ‘a wild goose chase’ but Ben called ‘doing his job correctly’. “So, my name’s Ben-,” he’s found that most often, telling people ‘I’m not here to hurt you’ or ‘I’m not going to arrest you’ very rarely makes them believe it. “You did a good thing. But people do good things all the time and still get hurt. So, are you alright?”

if this was only two years prior bobby probably would of freaked out if he accidentally let someone see his powers especially since the last time he used his powers before the x-men resulted in a mob chasing him out of his town. even though his maturity hadn’t gotten any better, his control and ability to stay calm had definitely increased so instead of just causing a scene that could make things worse, he felt the situation out. bobby saw the man’s hands up, defensive and submissive, something someone who wasn’t threatened by him would do. it almost seemed like they were trying to calm him down and honestly he was hoping that was true. he’d spent so much time being trained to deal with bad guys sometimes he forgot that there were actual good guys out there. “ so.. no one is coming? you just ran after a potentially dangerous dude covered in ice with no back up? “ bobby couldn’t help but scoff at his bravery or stupidity, either way it was admirable. the young man quickly glanced over his own body after the officer asked if was alright, mostly for his benefit because he knew if he got hurt in his ice form he definitely would of felt it by now. “ not a scratch in sight, officer ben. “ 

kitty was so grateful to see her best friend. she’d been here so long without any familiar faces, that before she’d seen scott and jean, she thought she was going to end up alone in the strange place. she missed her friends - her family - more than she’d ever thought possible. but then kurt’s familiar face popped up and suddenly, she thought everything would be okay. she smiled even brighter when he moved to meet her, her arms immediately going around his neck. “i’m so glad you’re here,” she told him. she’d missed him most of all. he was her best friend, of course. she smiled, hearing his accent. “i’m okay. other than being in a super weird place that i can’t leave? but way better now that my partner in crime is here,” she told him happily.

kurt had experience adapting to new environments, unfortunately it wasn’t in the army brat moving around a lot kind of way and more of the constantly running from mobs who thought you were devil or a circus chasing you down to sell you. he knew how to hide in the shadows, how to survive but the x-men had taken him in, shown him that he could have a real home, a family. he’d missed them so much especially kitty who had he had grown extremely close to, she was his best friend as the americans liked to say. “ right back at you, liebling ! “ kurt gave the brunette a little squeeze before letting out a small sigh after hearing she was fine. “ it is very strange.. do you think a mutant could of done this? “ he curiously asked before his lips parted into a large smile, his long canines still noticeable even with the image inducer on.

Arching one of his eyebrows when he saw the scene unfold, he then chuckled to himself and shook his head. “Oh don’t you worry. I am not one to judge” he assured, clasping his hands together as he continued to study him. Remus may look like a normal guy but his reality was far from it. Not something he could talk about with anyone, it was something he would have to carry with him till the day he died. “No need to be nervous, I assure you” he added.

bobby raised a brow at the man. the accent had caught him off for a moment mostly because it reminded him of the professor and how he wasn’t there to bail him out if things did go south but he’d been trained on keeping his guard up when someone found out about his abilities. “ uh.. thanks? “ the icy man replied with a nervous chuckle, glancing around for an exit strategy before becoming curious. “ how much of that did you see? “

He could smell the familiar scent of ice, as weird as that sounded, and didn’t see any snow so he was now curious. Looking around, he followed the smell until he was introduced to wait - him? “Well this is new,” he said as he placed a hand on some ice, letting his hand melt it, “not only do I now feel unoriginal with my face but there’s an opposite power wise out there”

as bobby locked eyes with what he could only describe as a doppleganger, his first instinct was to think this was mystique. when your face is staring back at you and you’re not near any mirrors that usually meant something was going on, something bad but their reaction made him soften slightly. they almost acted as if they were surprised to see another face like their own but what he did next made bobby take a step back. “ who are you ? how did you do that ? “ he iced up his right hand, making it into a fist as the young hero scanned the man, trying to figure out how this was possible.

Ben, one of the officers on scene, had pursued the other guy anyway, although it looked like he had saved the day. You could never be too sure of these things. So Ben went around the other way, with the intention of cutting the other guy off. Which he was able to do, successfully, just as the man was- shifting back from being an ice man. Great. “Or what, you’ll throw a snowball at me?” Probably not the best thing to say for an absolute normal person, like himself, without any sort of extraordinary power aside from his sheer, dumbass will. “No, I saw it.” Ben briefly waived his arms in the arm, hopefully to reassure the kid that he meant no harm. “Thanks, I can’t be everywhere, ya know.” Ben took another step toward him, “you okay?”

growing up, his parents taught him that the police were there to help but once his abilities became more apparent, more dangerous, the cops were now seen as people to avoid at all costs mostly because you never knew which cop was going to mistake him as a bad guy or just shoot him for being different. he never wanted to take that risk and the professor always told them to leave the scene of any mission before the police arrived for their safety. as bobby locked eyes with the officer his heart sunk in his chest, he was alone and he wasn’t about to fight this man, well unless he had to but he really didn’t want to. “ hey, don’t underestimate snowballs. “ the young man couldn’t hold back the snarky comment before he took a step backwards as the man confirmed the sighting, waiting for him to try to lunge or call for back up. “ uh.. you’re welcome ? “ bobby looked over his shoulder before scanning the area, honestly thinking that maybe he was stalling him with nice words but there was no one around, no sirens coming closer. “ me ? i barely did anything - i’m fine. “ he shook his head, a nervous laugh escaping his lungs as his guard was still up but starting to waiver slightly.

kitty was always happy to play around. the job she’d managed to nab was usually so serious and she wasn’t exactly the most serious of people. she just happened to be good with technology. she raised her eyebrows at him. “hmm. yeah you wish i’d love to see you strip,” she teased back. kitty let out a laugh at the roll of his eyes at the mention of her best friend. it was definitely hard to match up with kurt’s pranks but she didn’t mind bobby continuing to try. she supported him getting better. her and kurt could always use a third in their schemes. she let out a groan. “oh good lord please tell me you didn’t steal it. i can’t be harboring a fugitive, you know,” she half teased back. she rolled her eyes. “not here. keep your clothes on, drake,” she chuckled. plopping down next to him on the couch. “get bored all by your lonesome?”

unlike kitty, bobby hadn’t been in washington long. he was just getting over the shock of his friends having some memory wipe on top of being stuck in a random city so a job search hadn’t really been the first thing on his mind especially since he was just an eighteen year old with no job experience except hero job experience which didn’t count in an interview. he shook his head, a laugh escaping his lips before he pointed a finger at kitty. “ hey, what did i say? don’t ask. “ he didn’t steal it, no he wasn’t raised that way but a nice old lady gave it to him after he’d gotten her purse back, she insisted on him taking it since she had nothing else to give. he just wanted to look cool so he wasn’t about to give up the story and ruin the mystique he’s cultivated. “ damn and here i thought you wanted me. “ bobby poked fun at the brunette as she sat beside him before popping the top off the wine, his bare fingers quickly chilling the bottle before he took a swig. “ nah, i just thought you might want some company some non-furry company. “ he teased before holding out the bottle for kitty to take if she so pleased. 

kitty was glad that there was someone around washington seemed to know who she was. she and bobby hadn’t ever been really closed back home but at least he was a friendly face. and she’d seen bits and pieces of him, knowing he could be a fun presence in her life. especially since their friends had some sort of memory wipe. one that she hoped wasn’t permanent. she jumped when she heard a loud bang on her apartment door. she narrowed her eyes at the door, thinking the voice sounded familiar. “it’s either bobby or the stripper i ordered!” she called through the door. “hope it’s not both,” she laughed, pulling the door open. she leaned against the door. “you know, you’re gonna have to do better than that if you wanna get me. kurt’s my best friend, remember?” she laughed, stepping aside to let him in. “at least you brought the good stuff.”

as kitty’s voice yelled back, he knew his disguise hadn’t worked but that didn’t bother him, just being able to talk to someone normally without having to censor his mutant-ness was nice especially with all this memory wiping craziness going around. “ you’d love to see me strip, don’t lie ! “ the young man scoffed as the door swung open, now faced with the small brunette leaning against the door frame. he rolled his eyes at the kurt comment, it was hard to top a mutant who could teleport - that definitely made it hard to match his pranks but that never stopped him from trying. “ don’t ask me how i got this. “ bobby chuckled as he held the bottle up as he walked through the door, technically it wasn’t exactly legal for him to be drinking but there were a lot of things going crazy and youth was meant for fun. “ now where do you want me to strip? “ he teased with a wiggle of his brows, gesturing around her living room before he went and plopped down on the couch.
