Union Square Farmers Market Source-Destination Map: bit.ly/iccm-market-sources
Water access map.
Sequential Occupancy is a term related to historical geography that states land is platform for phenoma that occur due to to-be-determined forces. Though this is a historical appropriation this concept can also accommodate a scaled down version: What features of the place's infrastructure has potential to accommodate a crisis?
We found out the north wall gets great light; the trucks come in from the west side; and the glass building can be appropriated for ad-hock purposes in case power runs out. We also figured it would make sense to let the voices of the management position themselves in spots where voices are currently louder.Â

Mapping Homeless People Around Union Park NYC
Indy's Union Square Pirate Treasure Hunt
Got interested in food at union square: where it came from, who was eating what, what was thrown away in bins and as litter. Â Photographed every food stall in the square, got stalls map from the market, photographed what people were drinking (mostly starbucks) and eating, and every piece of food-related litter (not much of this, although a couple of overflowing bins). Â Uploaded all vendors and their locations to unionsquarefood.crowdmap.com; currently approving all reports and adding photos from today.Â
Also photographed all water, security, animals (and animal traps) and signs across the park. But Union Square is a good proxy for mapping a rural market to work out how easy food would be to obtain if e.g. transport became scarce.Â

Our team broke into two groups holding poster boards asking people to provide their weirdest, or most fun, story of Union Square. Stories were captured as Youtube videos, or transcribed to text. Participants were asked for permission, and given a Hershey Kiss for their story.
ICCM 2014 Union Square Local vs. Tourist Map We collected data about local versus tourist usage in and surrounding area of Union Square. We primarily focused on permanent structures, local stores, as well as key features throughout the park. Methodology When able, we directly asked owners or employees of the store to estimate what percentage of their business was local vs. tourist. When no one was available, we asked people using the feature whether they were locals or tourists. This was documented on a 1-5 scale, 1 being local, and 5 being tourist.

We observed the activity on the square from an observation point (Wholesale) and reported about the observations made at 12.10.Â
Blue dots: Actors
Red dots: ActionsÂ
Green dots: ArtefactsÂ
By clicking on the dots you can find the details of the observation.Â
Because link creation was not possible, we have shared the screenshot.Â

We asked people where they had come from, the mode of transport, and how long they perceived their journey to have been.  This showed us where the main draw of people was from, and the perceived differences in travel time.  This information would be useful in during a disaster response, as it would indicate which surrounding areas may be most affected…
