Well we leave tomorrow for California, but before that it seems we got thrown a little trouble. Yesterday me and my brother left the house for some shopping for the trip. But when we came back, a few things had changed.
Our house is up the driveway behind me The whole field across from us had caught fire, thankfully stopping short of any homes.
The culprit of this fire
Apparently the transformer on one of the power pole shorted out. Sending sparks on that hot day into the field. Power was not out when we got home. But shortly after, the pole was burned through and fell, causing arcing in the lines. That's when we lost power for the rest of the day.
Don't be fooled by these photos. There was some very quick response teams that were already there when we got there. And the neighbors had banded together to keep the fire at bay when it first started. So there was plenty of people around.
Worst thing that happened, was that one guy who lives in that red/white mobile home in the top image, Didn't even know a fire was surrounding his house until another neighbor ran up to his door. The guy had to pull his trailers away from the fires edge and got a few spark burns on his head.
All in all we were pretty dang lucky. Response team was fast and effective. And the power was fixed sometime last night.
Gone for A WHOLE MONTH?!
Yes, I'll be gone for pretty much the rest of July. My family are taking a vacation down to California starting the 10th, and will be down there for 2 weeks before we start a slow road trip back that may take an additional week. The majority of the trip is going to be spent hanging out at the cabin down there, which has been the family's for who knows how long. It's going to be my great Grandmother's 100th Birthday and pretty much anyone who can afford the trip will be down there. Surprisingly there are quite a few parts of my family that won't be able to come... that will be strange, since they are usually the ones I hang out the most with.
Well, I still have my more distant cousins Dan and Tom. Tom is an artist too, who is actually part of a studio down there in California. His dA is ~tomikari though his stuff there is years old. If you look around actually, you'll discover that he and his brother Dan were responsible for the recent explosion of those Calvin and Hobbes as adults stuff. Heck, they got themselves in a news article about it. Going to the cabin down in California will be amazing too. there's an awesome river for tubing right next to it. and years and years back, possibly before I was born, though I don't know, some of my great uncles made a sort of dam in part of the river, creating a nice deep pool to swim around in (there is still a bit of pull from the river though). It'll be interesting going down there now though, since we usually go down in August, after the river has lowered a bit. Besides the river next to the cabin, there is another great river to go to. But for another reason, and it's a bit of a hike. Not only a hike to the river itself, but up the river as well. There are several different spots along the river to stop and have fun. including a few spots where you can actually slide down the smooth rock formations in the river's falls, like nature's water slides. Or this one small area with deep pool, and a 15 ft rock to jump off of. As I mentioned before, we will be taking a slow trip back. Yes we will be rushing to get to the cabin, but after we leave we're just gunna take it slow and visit a few spots. We're still trying to figure out what we're gunna go see. We'll be going from California to Washington state, and will have little worry about taking a straight course, as long as it's not too out of the way. As far as I know what's on the agenda, is the Winchester house, and a few caves. If you're reading this from Facebook, go ahead and leave comments and suggestions. Do you know any good spots that should be on our road trip?
Tumblr? Lets do this!
I got this Tumblr a while ago, but haven't done anything with it. Well that's changing. But wait, if I'm about to start using this more, Why will there be about a month of nothing? As you'll understand from my next post, you won't hear much from me for a while, but know when I get back I should have plenty of art to post onto here. I wanted to start sharing this since my next post will be a long read. This will soon be my main art and blog place, so stay tuned.
