In the latest chapter of More Than Paradise, I attempt to explain why Vegeta commits to training Trunks and Goten during the 7YG. In my headcanon, he sometimes addresses Chi Chi by her title, Princess of Fire Mountain. More importantly, he never cared much about whether Saiyans were pure or mixed race. As long as they carried Saiyan power, he felt some responsibility towards them.

Chapter 10 is inspired by Spandau Ballet’s I’ll Fly For You. If you read it, I hope you enjoy it.

P.s. A small historical note: Vegeta’s title “Prince of All Saiyans” mirrors how Peter the Great styled himself “Emperor of All Russia” (Imperator Vserossiyskiy). The “All” indicating dominion over all Russians wherever they lived, not just those within his borders. In Vegeta’s case, my headcanon is that he sees it as responsibility rather than dominion.

In Chapter 5 of Songs of Vegebul, Vegeta asks Bulma the question that has haunted him for years.

Bulma has always chosen him, but never needed him. For someone who was raised to equate worth with power and utility, that feels like a kind of rejection.

He needs her deeply, and he can’t figure out if that makes him weak, or just human/mortal.

This line hits hard because it’s not about control, but about vulnerability. It’s about wanting to be essential to someone who would survive without you anyway.

Future Bulma survived without her Vegeta. She raised their son, kept fighting in the way she could contribute, and invented the time machine that saved another world. She did it all on her own. Vegeta knows it. He’s seen the proof that she doesn’t need him to endure.

So when he says, “But you’ve never needed me, have you?”, he’s really saying, “You’ve already lived without me once. You can again. But I don’t think I can live without you.”

This is not a plea nor self-pity, but the quiet grief of loving someone who would survive your absence, and loving them all the more for it.

He nodded towards the other end of the pool, where Krillin had just fallen into the water, and people were laughing.

“Is this what life is like?” he asked.

She turned to him, caught off guard.

“What do you mean?”

He didn’t answer.

But she felt it.

Waxing Crescent. Night 4. The glyph begins to pulse.

Bulma and Gohan study the ancient word Ka-Ra-Tat.

Vegeta responds, not with language, but instinct.

A red ribbon appears, scorched but unburned.

Across worlds, Gohan and Ami both receive a signal: mirror activation acknowledged.

This isn’t prophecy. It’s memory learning to speak.

Chapter 21 takes us into the ruins of the future, what’s left behind, who still remembers, and how a world mourns the woman who gave everything to keep it breathing.

Vegeta stands before her grave, Bulma learns how she is remembered, and together, they begin to understand what it means to love someone after they are gone.

This chapter is titled Broken Down Universe, in homage to @dragonbabezee’s fanfiction of the same name. It is one of the finest Vegebul AUs I’ve ever read, and a piece that continues to shape how I think about grief, survival, and love across timelines.

They’ve built the Time Machine. Said goodbye to their son. Put their affairs in order. Tomorrow, they leave for a broken world.

But tonight, they stay.

This chapter moves between preparation and intimacy, silence and sorrow, the kind of quiet that comes before war.

Bulma calibrates the Time Machine her other self entrusted to her. Vegeta trains in silence, not for strength, but to carry the weight of what’s coming. Future Trunks visits Gohan and sees, with wonder and ache, the life his mentor was never allowed to live.

Later that night, in the dark, Bulma and Vegeta take what time they have left, not to promise each other survival, but to be fully present as if it were their last.

If Closer has always been about what’s said in the places in between, this chapter lives there.

Gohan and Videl are getting married. The world is watching. Bulma is watching too, and Vegeta stands beside her, not reluctantly, but willingly. And for once, there is nothing to prove.

This chapter is about presence, memory, and choosing to stay. A society wedding becomes something smaller and more honest, a mirror held up to what has changed, and what endures.

Vegeta begins to rebuild, not with forgiveness, not with apology, but with presence. A morning at the Briefs’ private zoo with Trunks. A gathering at Capsule Corp. Small choices. A returned gaze. The act of staying.

It’s not reconciliation. It’s participation. And sometimes, that’s enough.

What they built, that night, wasn’t forgiveness. It was permission to begin again.

But now I understand. She didn’t let him off. She let him carry his dignity. She gave him the one thing no one else ever had: a chance to come back without shame.

In the latest chapter of Closer, I finally wrote the conversation they had behind that silence. The one they couldn’t have in front of everyone. The one that hurt more because it was private.

You were never too human for me. I was never too Saiyan for you.

I loved you long before I knew what to call it. I only knew that your voice stilled something in me. That your defiance demanded the best of me. I thought honour meant protecting you, possessing you. I didn’t understand it could mean standing beside you.

I broke what we built.

And still, you didn’t look away.

I came back. This time, I know why.

After everything, he comes back. But this time, not for pride. It’s about love, grief, legacy, and the cost of choices. Vegeta finally speaks. Bulma finally answers.

Goku returns for 24 hours. For everyone else, it’s a moment of joy, confusion, or unfinished grief. For Vegeta, it’s a reckoning. One day is enough to undo the life he’s been building. One day is enough to remind him of everything he was never allowed to be.
