so i wrote a ~40 page presentation on morphogenetic field theory headcanons a few months back. for funsies. it incorporates canon but also expands on it with my personal interpretations. it pretty much covers all the bases it can besides the parts that are literally entirely contradictive of each other in canon (ex. espers absorbing powers vs. amplifying). it’s by no means complete but i’ve wanted to explain the model i work off of for a while. people are def gonna interpret some things differently and i love discussing that but here’s my take

families

Healthy, strong sibling bonds

Two supportive, active parents

Men who are open with emotions of all kind

Women who have no weak spots for romantic love

Hardened characters who (professionally) care for kids, animals, or the elderly and are sweet with them

Pansexual and lesbian characters in sci fi

Intense newly-formed friendships

Lust at first sight, reluctantly (& eventually) in love

MCs who aren’t naturally or easily athletic 

Lazy do-gooders

Unlikely cat people

Someone who’s known for being a good singer/musician but would rather pursue math or science

Men who are rough but aren’t condescending to women

Non-humans who live in a human world and have a cultural identity crisis

Characters that willfully go to a therapist

Women with careers AND a rich, full family/social life

Dedicated teachers

A character that got a degree in business/finances/tech to have a secure job and save up for a lifelong dream

A woman who lives in an isolated area/home alone and prefers it that way

Divorced parents and step-parents that care about each other and work hard to be a loving support network for the kids involved

Sex workers that are not angels or demons, but complex characters like everyone else

Stay at home dads

Recovering alcoholics/addicts that have been clean for years and help other trying to get clean

A deadbeat, unemployed female character

Rough characters who are also bookworms

However, it wasn’t the sexy female characters who made me feel bad about my body. It was real girls, the unrealistic standards of fashion and a boy I used to date. Fictional females never made me feel bad because they never judged me, called me names or picked on me to the point of making me cry.

If anything, the sexy fictional women made me feel happy because they were my escape from the cruelty of real people. Plus, Barbie took a stand against cruelty and bullying. And she dates a guy who respects her. The fictional females were everything I wanted in friends.

Saying fictional sexy women are the problem isn’t just wrong, we are shifting blame to dolls and cartoons when the real culprits are real people. Specifically, bullies, abusive partners and fashion designers who make you feel less than to make a buck.

The real people called me names like a fat cow, earthquake, zit face and gorilla. Barbie, Disney Princesses and every other sexy female character NEVER called me those names or shamed me for my body. And they did not teach me to starve myself or any girl how to be bulimic. Not a single one unless it was to show girls that this kind of self abuse is wrong.

We have to stop shifting blame and hold bullies and abusers accountable for their actions. And we have to stop letting the fashion industry tell us who is and isn’t beautiful. Then and only then will body image issues be addressed.
