I think what he really needs is a friend—one that won’t tolerate his incessant attempts to insult every single non-Slytherin he comes across! A friend, or…or a very good book! Or both, even!

I definitely wouldn't be surprised. It seems that he just likes the attention he gets by saying rude things, it's a bit pathetic really.
