Rules: List your first fics in every fandom and how you feel about them.
tagged by @thehoardofthegreatdragon thank you!!! having a ton of fun with all the fic games you're tagging me in!! I'm also gonna stick to my top 5 (counting all the trigun fandoms as one) just to avoid making the post too long!
I Would Rather You for Trigun (written in 2023)
When he gets stiffed for an odd job he agreed to work, Nicholas decides to play at being a vigilante and steals a fish-man away from his would-be kidnappers.
...He didn't expect the fish-man to think he has "nice eyes" and be the type of bleeding heart Nicholas would have trouble leaving alone.
I'm going to be so real that I don't like this one all that much ^^" It wasn't even technically my first trigun fic, that never made it out of the drafts before getting scrapped, but I decided to write this one as a practice piece and chose a mermaid au because my most popular fic for TGCF was a mermaid fic, so I think it's funny to write mermaid aus for every fandom (AkaYona is due one, I know). I hadn't even incorporated trans headcanons into my trigun works yet, and I didn't even know who Razlo was (which is why Livio appears without him). I'm actually glad Make it to Daybreak overtook this one, but this was my most popular trigun fic for a quite a while and I felt cursed by it engrekjngrjkng
2. It's who you are. for TGCF (written in 2019)
When the hand that helped him caught Xie Lian after he stumbled, he drew in a sharp breath.
The ghost groom, or whatever stranger had deigned to take him on a bloody stroll in the dead of night through a haunted forest, smelled of maple and rain. It was cloyingly sweet and impossible to mistake.
(AKA the one in which Xie Lian and Hua Cheng are both omega)
...I thought the mermaid one was my first for TGCF actually jkengjrkeng It surprises me this was my first, but this one I think specifically was written out of frustration with the a/b/o genre and how heteronormative it often was, so I just went. hey why does no one do omega/omega. And I wrote it. I think doing omega/omega or alpha/alpha type things is way more common now, so my motivation to ever touch the genre again is kind of gone. I do remember liking this one though, and I poked some chapters recently and they were pretty decent. I think the vignette/series of one-shots format worked pretty well for it.
3. Flight of Fancy for BSD (written in 2018)
Everything from the pages of fairy tales was (mostly) true, and Atsushi could count himself as one of them. The man Atsushi found drowning in the river had enlightened him to the fact that he wasn't human, and then had subsequently recruited him. Somehow or another, he was now an official member of the Armed Detective Agency, a group of humans and non-humans alike that dealt with the supernatural.
Oh this one was just Not Great, a victim of my ideas and ambition way outpacing my ability to execute longer ideas at the time. I haven't looked back at this one because it was. Well. No clue what I was doing at the time. It was important practice but ho boy. I am proud of how much better I've gotten at formulating, structuring, and executing longer ideas, and this is a good demonstration of how much I've improved on that lol.
4. a hearth for the storm for MDZS (written in 2018)
The Yiling Patriarch looked decidedly less intimidating with a tiny child clinging onto his robes.
This one was adorable, I still love it. My TGCF writing era was where I really came into my own (minus being able to handle longer fics still), I think, and I actually wrote this just before that since I was a TGCF main at heart. It was a cute idea and I'm pretty happy with it.
5. As the Years Go By for AkaYona (started in 2020, finished in 2026)
Yona was happily in a relationship with Hak and living with her new giant family, but one regret soured her happy present. The childhood friend she'd so cherished, the one she and Hak shared so many memories with, was missing from her happy ending. Perhaps that was meant to be, but Yona wouldn't be satisfied until she at least got the chance to speak with him again. Then, she'd know for sure.
Or the one in which Yona reaches out to find Su-won after a bad fight and the subsequent years of no contact.
I'm pretty proud of this one! I do think there might be a bit of a shock in writing given there's a five year gap between when I wrote some of the chapters (and technically speaking, Double Edged Blade also got started in my drafts but never posted to ao3 around the same time I first wrote this), but ultimately I'm happy with how it came out. I'm also posting the sequel now, which. Technically speaking. The ideas from the sequel were always on my mind (from what I remember anyway, of course it changed drastically when I picked it up 5 years later), but they were specifically cut from the first fic because I didn't think I could do it justice back then. Well, past me, present me has your back rjgnrkjeng
This was really fun!! I know I'm harsh on some of these but it is just kind of a reflection of my improvement in writing ability, bound to happen when you've been writing regularly for over eight years. Ultimately I'm glad to have written everything I have posted on ao3, and if people still find them enjoyable, then all the better!
If you all would like to! @orcelito @markcampbells @eversio @tripwhyer @holdxtohijack
