Alright buckle the fuck up kiddos because Iβve been sitting on this for awhile and I NEED to get this outta my system and Iβm gonna make it everyoneβs problem.
Ahem.
Handsome Jack is Greek, or at least has Greek roots.
First! His nose. Jackβs nose is very straight and defined. Itβs probably my favorite part about his face tbh. Donβt ask.
As seen in the model image of his head and face, you can see that his nose has a straight bridge with no other real bumps or inclines. It quite literally starts from his brow line.
In these charts, the Greek nose is straight. Straighter than any hetero white dude. Thasβit.
Now to his skin tone. His skin is a warm olive-type color. Something usually associated with the Ancient Greeks.
In this sheet of concept art for Handsome Jack in Borderlands 2, the artists very clearly used the golden-olive skin tone for him. They knew what they were doing.
Thereβs also the fact that Jack named the Hyperion (also Greek!) space station Helios. I know itβs a GBX thing with them using names from Greek Mythology to name stuff, but cβmon. THE PIECE FITS THE PUZZLE.
Look, Iβm no expert in biology or whatever idk, but I thought about his nose and skin tone one night and honestly itβs never left me and has just stewed in my dumb bird brain for the pastβ¦something months.
Thank you for coming to my Handsome Jack is Greek TED Talk :)
I would also like to add something onto this if you don't mind :3
Jack's originally from the planet Tantalus. In Greek mythology, Tantalus was a favorite amongst the gods, even being able to dine with them on the top of Olympus. However his greed and ego got the better of him, and he would eventually steal their ambrosia, a golden dog (I believe), and even kill his own son and trick the gods into eating him. *Ehm ehm* I hope you can see the similarities to Jack's story, if not I guess I can clarify. Ambrosia - the eridian visions. Golden dog - the Warrior. Killing his own son - Angel.
YES OMG!!
I completely forgot about his home planet, but that makes SO much sense and there really are some biiiiiig parallels with Jack and Greek Mythology. It makes me wonder if theyβre all intentional, or whether itβs completely coincidental and/or kismet lol
