character A was raised in a rural town separated from the city and mainlands by a sea, and B is sent to their town for a course project surrounding a subject of knowledge and history of their country.

A and B meet by fate and spend a small winter together. ultimately B has to leave as their project work comes to an end.

A doesn't hear from B for months after B has left. eventually they decide to visit the B in the city by ship, however, on the same day A is also on the ship to visit B as a surprise.

Person A and B are queer and mutuals and are also very much Fucking.

it all starts at a graduation party that a group of close knit friends hold in honour of earning their diplomas and Person B from a neighbouring university is invited through connections. fateful interventions end up with Person C managing to get A and B in the same room, next to each other, and watch the two mutuals hit it off.

nothing happens for a few months.

and Then. they have a meet-cute and catch up. from then onwards Person C would get the daily mail and leave a letter from A to B twice a week.

on and on it goes, a fwb connection is formed, C finds out and is lovingly supportive.

we watch the progression of A and B’s fwb relationship as such: the letters start becoming longer and lesser about when and where the deed would be committed, and more about their days and interests and what reminded of who. :3

Person A is everyone's friendly nerd who likes keeping to themselves but offering help whenever except finals week because no one but Person B is equipped for the disaster the dark academic 5'11 sweetheart becomes. (knocking over things over and over again in the small suite shared between other friends because head empty only anxiety, and sobbing over unconsciously burning breakfast every day because they got too invested a mini day-mare about their finals, and so on.)

Person B is less outgoing, but just as equally friendly with the close-knit group of friends A & B share as suite-mates. B leans more into light academia and is almost always the happiest around A with their fun little ideas that A is always roped into (A is always afraid at first but oh the joy B exudes is more contagious than any final night/day-mare!)

nothing keeps A and B apart, not even the scary insects and plants that A adores and likes to grow/own but B quivers in presence of. not even when A loves rainy days so much, they jump and prance around in the rain until they're so sick and troublesome only B can handle them (this happens quite often, rainy days are almost every two weeks, fun days!!)

Person A, an overworking lyricist, has a Problem. and no, it's not the three totally unique, completely not ever been done before verses they're supposed to submit to a fellow lyricist by the week's end.

it's this. this lovely person who's yet to give Person A the same pitiful look all the other bartenders have been for the past month, and A's been waiting to be let down but.

Person B looks like all the things A's been failing to nail all their life (no pun intended) (or is there). B is the Muse. B is the coming-of-age teen-idle song that could ruin A and it would happen without objections.

A's trying, really, they are, but B's so beautiful in the neon lights, A's struggling with their diaphragms and hiccups.

Person A and B are struggling with their online friendship.

both of them are people who see ends before the letting the beginnings happen, are afraid of intimacy, and are practically soulmates with how they manage to ruin slow dances around everyone and each other.

speaking of ruin.

A's been trying to move on since the day they'd realised their feelings for B stretch beyond friendship, beyond the fun, unspoken boundaries they'd stuck to. but really, it doesn't have to take a lovestruck fool to see the effort go amiss a few months in their daily texting.

A makes up for the lack of effort, B pushes away further.

a year goes by, A moves on, and decides to confess. 'i liked you, i moved on, you deserve to know you're loveable despite your ridiculous self-loathing assumptions.'

B now has a confession to make too. 'i didn't move on, i like you, i thought i'd never confess.'

they stay friends (that never works out, does it).

B starts drifting away again and A has been waiting. A has waited for half a year to let B realise the effort in their friendship went amiss, and A wanted nothing all this time except the courage from B. the courage to let A know that B can't handle being friends with them.

Person A is cursed from having lived their previous life as a heinuous assassin for an immoral king, now having to live as a cursed genie who offers four wishes to the nihilistic.

Person B is the most stubborn person A's got assigned to by the damned 'magic' lamp. Deciding upon their fifth try in asking B what they truly wish for and getting no answer, A tries to leave and go back to the lamp.

They cannot.

Without granting all four wishes, A is stuck with B. And no amount of guilt-tripping works. Until B cracks, and the wishes keep coming and coming.

Person A can't grant them and Person B keeps spiralling more and more. Person A can't grant B's wishes and knows that this is worse than being a stupid genie.

Their sides get sewn together, and feelings spill over. Two lives are laid bare.

At the age of 26, with a master's degree weighing heavy on their shoulder and the persistent nag of wanting to get away from all their mutuals and coworkers falling in love, Person A decides it's the right time to live out their own version of Margo Roth Spiegelman. Packs up, teeters around discreetly, and finally makes the move to leave after three weeks of hurried planning.

Hurried as all their plans to get as far away as possible may be, the want to chase after the fleeting figure of Person B is slowed down as much as possible. After all, Person A decides to move to the middle east, and where else could Person B hide more naturally due to both religious and cultural aspects/clothing?

[chasing B might be because of how they keep giving the darn best advice whenever they seem to come across A completely lost around the century old cities of the Arabs.]

[slowed down because getting to know B is to become their disciple and learn to think the way B does; starting with fasting since Person A had decided the month of Ramadhan would be best for start working alongside the most fascinating Muslim stranger they'd come to know.]

the first twenty steps from the door with my sweatshirt barely hanging on to my shoulders, i think myself an idiot. which i am until my feet are crossing the two-way road to my friend's and the wind shifts. the temperature drop isn't as unforgiving as i thought it'd be, and my sweatshirt makes sense now.

two feet and two shoulders bent out from the nap i took last night, the stairs look nonsensical and inside my hijab my strands are withering. Ash's couch feels like the one i sleep on in my dreams, somewhere in the master bedroom her brother wails in protest. she can smell my oudh, it's a bit strong (i was confident earlier), it's a bit fine, it's not me either way. Uncle Bekalah asks where my friends are, but i'm too attracted to the strawberry flavours this afternoon to think straight. Like Taehyung, as i take the first bite. compassion blooms in my mind, i meow at her neighbour’s stumbling cat.

something like love, i decide, when it's sticky on the last bite.

slipping my shoes on again, the nagging doesn't stop; this incessant need to to bleed sickness, i'll never find a home when i'm never staying long enough.

upon further investigation, A cannot find B’s soul until B finds A all smug and set on taunting A for not being able to move on to the afterlife.

now A doesn’t know B well, but they for sure know when they’re in love with someone. and A for sure knows the abundance of terrifyingly depressing, handwritten poems they come across in their apartment speak louder than anything else, and that is what it takes for A to combust B with the tightest hug and sob for them.

when A watches B leave to the classics section one day and not return for a while, they get concerned and go to check up on B, only to get cornered and tiredly grinned at.

A is so happy. A is so gifted. A has it all.

Until the breaking news.

Person A gives up painting for depression, meets Person B in rehab, manages to get convinced to try painting again, frustratedly falls into a dark place.

Learns there's a lot more to colours from someone who’d never learned art, learns patience and time heals wounds surgery can't, falls in love with the way B is dedicated to helping them realise life is worth it with the right people.
