he’s not surprised it came to this, the two of them on opposite sides of the battlefield . his mind whirls but his heart, or it is hers, screams the pain etched on his face is reflected in hers. they’ve always been magnets, orbiting around each other and now the wreckage that seems to break them open, leave them bloody and ruined and shattered. has lain waste to his soul and he braces himself for the final blow, grateful that his last sight will be her eyes locked on his but it never comes, and she clatters to the ground. and his hearts tries to carve itself out of his chest to reach her but his body, his soul, pushes up upwards . because now, he knows that they’ll have more time
