So my sister decided to send brownies.

Hannah couldnât sleep. Normally, she slept like a log and nothing, not even the world ending, could walk her. Tonight, though, she tossed and turned for hours. Nothing felt comfortable for more than a few moments. Any time she got comfy and felt herself drifting off, sheâd be avalanched with regrets and unfinished tasks. Her brain just wouldnât shut up. Around midnight, she gave up. Her room-mate had fallen asleep hours ago, so she figured she was safe to turn her bedside lamp on. She sat up in bed and pulled out her book.Â
Sheâd been reading for about ten minutes when she heard the clicking of heels. That in itself was weird. No one should be up at midnight, not even to go to the bathroom since everyone had a small en-suite. She shrugged it off, figuring it was none of her business. She couldnât help but notice, however, when the clicking stopped and was replaced by voices.Â
She slid out of bed, pulling a hoodie over her head to cover the raggedy old t-shirt she wore to bed. She listened to the conversation outside. Without thinking about what she was doing, she opened the door.
"There you are," she said to the girl standing outside talking to Mr Compton. "Finally made it back to our dorm, did you?" What was she doing? The words tumbled out of her mouth while her brain screamed that she was insane. She didnât even know the girl. Why was she saving her ass? "Mr Compton, could she come inside? Weâd like to get to sleep. You know, school tomorrow." She hoped that Mr Compton didnât know the room plan well enough to know that the two girls didnât board together, and that this other girl was smart enough to catch on to Hannahâs stupid idea. If not, Hannah could land in the principalâs office right along side her.
"Now, Mr. Compton, it seems that we've awoken my poor roommate, Ms. Tully." Becca pouted, linking arms with the girl who came to her rescue.Â
Mr. Compton's expression did not change. "It seems we have, Miss Hunter." He did not look amused.Â
"Mr. Compton, I do believe it's quite rude of us to have done so, don't you think?"Â
Mr. Compton nodded.Â
"I'll see you tomorrow Mr. Compton." Becca wiggled her fingers as a goodbye, turned on her heel and made Hannah do the same.Â
"Hannah, darling, lead me to your room, would you?" She whispered in her ear, still having her arm linked with Hannah's.Â

Becca walked down the empty hallway, her heels clicking against the tile. She was leaving tonight if they liked it or not. She needed out of her. She'd return on Monday, but giving herself Thursday and Friday off wasn't too bad of an idea. The brunette supposed that running down the hallway (or even taking off her shoes, causing everyone to know where she was walking) would be very suspicious. If she played it cool, she'd be able to get out of school in no time. Besides, who was around at 12 o'clock at night anyway? Â
"Where do you think you're going?" Mr. Compton, her Chemistry teacher, asked. The southern drawl he had was very attractive. He came from Louisiana, right? Becca couldn't remember. Turning up the charm, Becca titled her head and flashed him an easy smile.Â
"To my dorm...and where are you going?" She teased, batting her eyelashes.Â
"I think I should be taking you straight to the principal's office." His sarcastic smile showed Becca that he was fully aware as to what she was trying to do and that he was going to stop it.Â
"For going to my dorm? Now, Mr. Compton, I don't see how that's fair." She ran a hand through her hair.Â

Becca & Samuel || Late Night Shenanigans
"Gotta catch it." Samuel responded, forcing in a smile as he only pretended to pout this time, in response to Beccaâs. California was, and always will be, the place to be sad. Â Not Culver Creek, not with friends. He pretended to fall back, exaggerating the push when Sammy felt Beccaâs hands on his chest. "Hey no foul play." he told her sticking his tongue out.Â
He rolled his eyes at the dare, looked around, and furrowed his eyebrows. âThatâs that best you can do?â he grinned, narrowing his eyes at the girl before getting up, wiping the grass off his pants. Grabbing his phone from his pocket Samuel handed it to Becca. âYou can start the clock whenever you want.â
Already singing the tune and doing the hand gestures Samuel started to run his way across the football field, adding a few skips and jumps along the way to get a laugh from Becca. âIâm a teapot short and stout, people like my handle in their mouth.â As stupidly crude the lyric changes were going to be, Samuel continued them as he ran. At some point, the whole night seemed nothing more but amazing. For the first time in a long time it seemed, he had a friend, friends. He was hanging out underneath the night sky, laughing and smiling, nothing in return. Drinking and being recklessly stupid, but not stupid to the point it would be more of a regret than a memory. It was nice to know somewhere along the multiple bad stories, there were some good ones he would remember. And this one was definitely a story that would be told.Â
Becca laughed wildly as she watched the boy run, skip and jump around the football field, singing. When she heard his first change to the song she then laughed so hard that she ended up on her back, forcing herself to stop watching. She placed her hands over her mouth, trying to muffle the outrageous shrieks of pure happiness coming from her. By the end of her fit she felt a pain in her stomach from laughing so hard. She thanked god for waterproof make up as she tried to sit up, wiping at her eyes carefully. Slowly, Rebecca began to sit up, thinking that she might be able to handle Samuel.Â
"I can't believe you!" She called out to him giggling, still not able to get over it. Becca took in a deep breath, trying to remind herself to breathe. As "Connor" walked back casually to a beaming Becca she couldn't help but tease him.Â
"I think you enjoyed that a little too much."Â
It suddenly hit the senior then that this was probably the most fun she's had with anyone in this school for awhile. She wasn't a loner or anything, hell, she was pretty damn popular but she never truly enjoyed the company of the weekday warriors. She hated how they treated other people!Â
"Connor" was nice, though. He seemed to be just a fun-loving, honest, carefree type of guy. Becca liked that; she needed that.
Becca & Samuel || Late Night Shenanigans
Samuel furrowed his eyebrows seeing Becca cut herself off, watched as the girl drank straight out of the bottle, and laughed grabbing it taking a sip himself. âThatâs the spirit.â Samuel smirked holding the thing back up to the girl, lifting it over her head before she could reach it, continuing to mess around with her that way. The last time he did something like that was with his little sister, joking around with her and such. Of course they didnât drink wine together, she was a little kid after all. But Samuel could remember days at the park playing truth or dare, he drinking soda and her juice pouches. Him grabbing the flower crowns she made and lifting them over her head so she would have to jump up and get them. A rush of nostalgia rushed through his veins at the memory, and taking another sip the guy handed the bottle back to Becca, frowning slightly.Â
"Hey, I can start acting like an adult when Iâm actually an adult. Until then Iâm going to be as immature as I can." he laughed, shaking his head as Samuel leaned back against his elbows thinking. "Iâll choose the latter, and pick dare. Please donât make me regret that." he added seeing the look on Beccaâs face.
"Hey!" Becca looked up at the bottle now held over her head. She reached for it but Sammy only held it higher. "Conner!" She laughed, forging a fake pout onto her lips. But Becca noticed a flicker of sadness cross his face so she stopped smiling for a moment, puzzled. She pushed on his chest playfully, trying to lighten him up. She was having a pretty good time with Samuel so far and wanted the same for him, frowning, simply would not be allowed.Â
Becca sucked at dares and therefore she was hoping he didn't choose dare, although she knew he would. She called it. Still, she racked her brain for the best dare she could think of.
"Well that's no fun!" She shook her head, smiling as always. She clasped her hands together, setting the bottle in between the two of them in an attempt to share. "How about...I dare you to run around singing 'I'm A Little Teapot' for 2 minutes." Becca laughed, already getting the visual.Â
Becca and Riley || But I Don't Smoke..?
rileyxwilder:
âSet the date and Iâll see you there,â he replied in reference to the archery, truly interested in seeing the feat.
It made him happy to hear the giggle that came from her, and he let out a laugh himself. Riley continued on and brushed aside the low-hanging branches that blocked the path and through a few trees until finally they had arrived. Honeyed rays of sunlight were still streaming down reflecting upon the surface of the water, and for once it seemed in the history of Alabama, the number of bugs flying around their heads was low.
He took a seat on the decrepit old bench that sat nearby and dropped the guitar case at the side of it. There was just but a little room between the two with knees nearly touching. Pulling from his jacket pocket, Riley took a cigarette for himself and clenched it in his teeth â jaw line stiffening â as he drew another for her and offered it towards her. âI like to read â classics and sci-fi and poetry and all that.â
The mention of poetry perked Becca up. "You like poetry?" She asked. Becca nodded her thanks for the cigarette and took it from Riley. "All my friends hate poetry! But I love it!" Because she was so excited she noticed she was now sitting straight up, totally intrigued. Becca made sure she was aware of how close they were. Becca didn't have any personal space issues, but she noticed that people often had a much bigger "bubble" than she did so she tried her best to respect it. "Who is your favorite?" Becca waited until then to put the cigarette in her mouth, waiting to ask Riley if she could use his lighter for a second.
While Becca spoke she looked at Riley but her eyes couldn't help but wander, looking at the picture-perfect scenery around her. The lake was flat, reflecting the sky which got more orange as time went on, gearing up for a sun set. That was one of Becca's favorite things, the sky, the sun rising and setting.Â
Becca and Riley || But I Don't Smoke..?
He tried to keep his pace not too quick so as to match with hers as she spoke. He paid attention to every detail in her voice and the cheeriness that seemed to come with remembrance. âYouâre into archery? Wild, I wouldnât have thought.â He looked ahead once to see where they were going, but looked back to the brunette at her next question.
âMy dad? Well I never really knew him, see. But thereâs no need to apologize or anything like everyone thinks they have to. He was a good guy from what I hear â went here as well as a kid.â
The guitar case he held knocked softly against his leg. It wouldnât be long until they arrived, and before long the sun would be setting. It was always nicest down by the lake at this time. âAs for me, Iâm from up in Minnesota,â he added as well laying on a stereotypical accent when he pronounced the last word for the effect.
"Yeah, I really like it. I can show you sometime, if you want. I have a funny feeling you'll find it interesting." Becca nodded. She listened to Riley almost gloss over the fact of not knowing his father. Did he die?  Was a good guy. Yeah, probably. Becca's heart immediately went out to him but she could sympathies with the fact that he wanted no apologies. Hearing I'm sorry over and over again for something that has nothing to do with the person apologizing must be annoying, especially after hearing it for your whole life. She couldn't imagine not having her father around, though. Granted, he would be deployed again the first day of the new year but still, at least he returned home, thank god.Â
Becca giggled at the accent, knowing he was trying hard at it. She found it cute, in all honesty. But considering Riley's blank face the last time she told him something was cute or that he was cute, she decided to keep the thought to herself.Â
Riley lead her down a path which she assumed would lead up to the smoking hole and Becca took in the scenery change, eyes alight with curiosity.Â
"So aside from playing the guitar, what do you like to do?" She inquired, trying to push through the awkward stage she always felt happened during the first few moments of hanging out with someone.Â
Becca and Riley || But I Don't Smoke..?
rileyxwilder
Rileyâs lips turned to a smirk telling as she was a bit flustered by the compliment. She shouldnât have been. She was very pretty after all, and she should have been used to it, but perhaps not.
At her question, he was already ahead, slinging the guitar off his shoulder and locking it away in the old ratty case he carried with him. âI donât mind carrying this old thing around,â he said with a grin and held it in his other hand opposite her and motioned for her to follow along. Â
âSo Miss Becca, tell me about yourself.â
Miss Becca. She liked that. Maybe, she thought, everyone should be proper like that. Go back to the Mister and the Miss-es.Â
Becca fell into line beside Riley, heels clicking all the way as she walked on the pavement. "Hm," She sighed happily in thought. "Well, I live here in Alabama. My family lives about 20 minutes away from here. My dad's in the army and my mom works from home. I don't have any brothers or sisters." She smiled, thinking of her father. "My dad is like my best friend. He's the one that got me into archery and I can proudly say I think I'm almost a better shot than he is." Becca looked back up at Riley.Â
"And you?"Â

Charlie chuckled a bit, and followed Becca to her room. He could feel his walls coming down with her, and he knew that was a good thing. Because that meant that maybe soon, he could really feel again, and trust again, and live again.Â
"I, well, Iâm not sure. Iâm not very creative, so whatever you want to do." He smiled, trying to be open to whatever she wants to do.Â
Becca held the door open for Charlie, leading him into the warm building. "Uh.." She sang out happily, thinking. "I don't really know. We can watch a movie or something...? But that might be a little boring." She thought aloud with a laugh.Â
"What do you like to do, Charlie?" Becca lead him up the stairs and down a hallway until they reached her dorm. She turned the key in the door and unlocked it, letting Charlie go in first.Â
Becca & Samuel || Late Night Shenanigans
"In that case, youâre going to have to show me how well you can really cook." Samuel chuckled, rolling his eyes playfully before he started to run. Moving his way past Becca and towards the football field he went faster and faster, legs pumping as the memory of football practices with his dad screaming from the back and coaches expecting too much flooded his brain. A sort of heaviness felt on Samuelâs shoulders as his steps slowed slightly for him to catch a breath and calm down.Â
Surprisingly he managed to beat Becca though, even if it was only ten seconds. And leaning his head to the side Samuel folded his arms as he faced Becca, lips curled into a smirk as he held the bottle out in front of her, opening it fast. âLoser gets first drink.â Samuel teased laughing softly before he rolled his eyes again teasingly. âThat head start never happened.âÂ
Walking to the middle of the field Samuel sat in the middle of it, head back as he tilted them to the sky. Much brighter than it was back in California, and much more pretty. âI say we should play⌠truth or dare. Iâll go first.â Samuel offered, smiling wide.Â
Becca took the bottle from him, watching him as he moved to the middle of the field. "Hope you're ok with--" She shook her head, cutting herself off. She didn't really care if he was turned off by her drinking out of the bottle. If he was, then more wine for her. She took a swig and then brought the bottle away from her lips, swallowing. Truthfully, she wasn't the biggest fan of red wine. It was too...bitter, in a way. But she'd drink it, more to keep up with appearances than anything. She was a social drinker, as he father liked to call himself. He, like Becca, never drank unless it was at a party or something. This was the exception.Â
"You're such a child." Becca teased. "Ok." She sighed, sitting before him with her legs stretched out and crossed. "Truth or dare?" She asked a wicked grin crossed her lips, trying to think of a good dare.Â
