Sorry that I haven't been very active guys, I've been kinda busy lately. Because I'm doing a fanfiction gift exchange with two of my friends. So I thought I would share this with you all, I already posted it on my main blog but, whatevs. I Love Guardians of Ga'hoole and Epic so I thought I would combine the two. So here we have Ronnin as a northern Hawk owl :)

Personal art problems
You know what really gets on my nerves? When I spend a very long time creating a character that I intended to be original and then I find that either someone else had that idea already or someone sees my work then copies it or changes little things about the character and then claim it as 'theirs'.
I swear to god this happens to me so often that I absolutely feel like shit. I feel like a shitty artist because I cannot create a character without someone else incidentally already obtaining the same concept.
For me personally i can easily create my own original creatures and such but when it comes to my human/human morph characters everyone supposedly has the same idea.Ā
I may sound like a total jerk right now but this really does happen to me too often and i'm really mad. However I will continue to post my work on this blog with pride, thank you very much.

Thought I would share some of the drawings I made for my very own October art challenge, I only made it to October 14th because I became overwhelmed with work from school :p I'll upload the rest in a little bit.
October 1st- Crest of OctoberĀ October 2nd- bull skull with sunflowers
October 3rd- Fungitus (made up disease) October
4th- sword hound (part swordfish part mutt)
October 5th- Violet Spade Bandit (aka Bolek Nikodem. the Crow with no mercy.)
October 6th- re-design of an oc. She'sĀ part firefly so I figured that would be kind of monster related for Halloween. sort of.
October 7th- Red tailed black shark, warrior merman (I might re-draw him. I really like his design but I had no idea what to do with his other arm. plus the face and headpiece could have been drawn better)
October 8th- Pumpkin Patch Tarantula Centaur (this one was REALLY fun to draw! I think I might draw her on the tablet!)Ā
So this was my Halloween costume this year, I was mainly inspired by the day of the dead sugar skulls and the atmosphere of October and my Horoscope sign (Scorpio) This was my first time creating a very intricate costume for Halloween and my birthday (which is on Halloween) And I must admit I had a really fun time making this piece. I call it The horned shade reaper :)
and so I thought I would show you all how I built my mask and the end results :)

Interesting yet strange discovery in the credits of Epic! (Sorry, I donāt really have the digital copy figured out yet, so the quality is meh) You know how I was telling you guys about the photo ID I spotted in the theater? Well here it is! Butā¦ Strangely enough, itās different. In the theater release, the photograph was the same one as the one used in the newspaper article in the art book (super excited Bomba face) and his name was listed as āBomba Radcliffe IIIā. Here we see a different photo of him younger (still reused from the other photo though) and the III is no longer there.
We also see ā3(?)4 Saw Mill Road, Danbury CTā listed there, which appears to be a real place! Check it out here!
It also lists his birthday as May 14, 1952, putting him at 61 instead of the implied 45 in the art book. Well! Everyone knows the theater release is different from the DVD release and things get tweakedā¦ Itās just strange that theyād change this! I saw a lot more easter eggs this time around, Iāll be sure to point them out to you guys sometime!

ahhh but there you go anon! I hope you find this tutorial useful ahah;; I find that observing real life (or just googling up faces and expressions) really help with understanding faces and how they do the thing. So keep on practicing!

Today I gave my students a quick presentation on some of the basic considerations for composition, which I am now sharing with you! Iāve given them separate talks about color and tonal value/contrast, which are also super important compositional concerns. (Iāll be sharing those presentations too once I properly format them)
I personally love learning about different compositional techniques. Itās fun to think about the ways that the brain views & sorts images, and how we can trick it into feeling a certain way or looking at certain aspects of an image first! Itās easy to fall into compositional ruts (which I am also guilty of) because a lot of art gets by with mediocre, though serviceable, compositions. If you can generally understand whatās happening in an image then itās generally fine. However, itās the truly great compositions, where everything in the whole image has been considered and āclicksā together, that bump up an illustration to a visual slam dunk. NC Wyeth is one of my favorite artists for this reason: his compositions are rock solid, varied based on the imageās intent, and always enhance the mood or action he is depicting.
