chiara isn’t much of a christmas person. she’s there for the feasts, the booze – in secret and when no one’s looking, of course – and the free gifts, but above all else? she’d pass, if she could. her family weren’t the kind of people to celebrate holidays, and the idea seemed to spread to chiara. so, she isn’t sure how she’s landed herself a trip to hogsmeade with yoojung, who has her arm linked with hers, and seems to be excited at the prospect of christmas and buying gifts.
“well, that wholly depends on who you’re giving those sweets to. and just who are you going to give these to?” chiara promptly raises a brow, a gloved hand reaching over to brush a light sprinkling of snow on her sleeve. when asked on if she’s staying or going back home, a slight frown finds her lips at the thought of people going home to their families, but she’s quick to brush that off too. “i haven’t decided if i want to stay or not,” she merely says instead. “the last two christmases, i spent those at someone’s house, but i don’t think i’m feeling it this year.”
memories of christmas last year had been nothing short of magical, and just as she finds a smile creeping up on her lips, thinking of spending the holidays with him and his family, she’s quick to dismiss the idea because it wouldn’t be happening again so soon. or ever. “but, i hear christmas at hogwarts is pretty legit… i saw some people in the dining room decorating the tree. and what the f– screaming socks? you could probably give those to someone you hate… or has terrible hygiene, you choose.”
as a giant yawn escapes her, yoojung takes a hazy look over the stores ahead of them. it’s cold and there are a lot of people around, and as much as the prospect of being a good friend and getting into the spirit of something sounds so great, she also isn’t really cut out for this sort of thing. still, there was the undeniable fizzle of excitement.
“hmm... i don’t really know. whoever i deem worthy by christmas day?” she flashes a cheeky grin at chiara. there are already people she knows for sure she wants to buy for, and the girl beside her is one of them. yoojung isn’t sappy but she is a hufflepuff at heart. her friends mean the world to her and because she’s awful at expressing it she can perhaps make up for her bitter heart with a bag of sweets. who knows. “i see, i see. if you’re worried about being lonely stuck here, i’m totally available to annoy you into oblivion.” her tongue pokes out in her playfulness.
at chiara’s reaction to her socks idea, yoojung lets out a giant laugh that sounds borderline cackle. “yeah! yeah! i would give them to someone i really love. you know, the reason i’ve never been in a relationship is that my affection is something no one can afford.” still sinking out of her laughter, she timely pulls her friend into honeydukes and indulges herself with the aroma of sweets and candy.
“this one time a guy got me candy. muggle. this was like, years ago. and i didn’t understand what it meant, you know? so i just ate it. then my friend was like ‘oh my god yoojung!!!’. and i was like ‘what??’ and then realised i’d eaten half of his confession letter.” the sparkle doesn’t leave her eyes. “i couldn’t help it! it was scented paper!”
