mildred hubble is done with your bullshit

hmmm idk i don't think i can cause they never considered each other as friends. even the few times they team up/work together is because they were force to do it.

ethel grew to resent mildred more and more each season, seeing how mildred was "the golden child" of cackles- always saving the school and everyone's lives lol, so ethel probably resented that she had to be grateful to mildred (someone who she considered to be beneath her) for saving her life so many times.

but also like. ethel is just a kid. her home life sucks, we know that. and the way her parents and especially her mother treat her? yikes. the teachers at cackles weren't of any help 😒 and i can actually see why ethel became worse with each season (not to call ada incompetent, but ffs she should have sat her down and have an honest conversation with her)

this is why /mildred/ doesn't outright resent her. she knows how her home life is and tries to pay her no mind. maybe at some point she'd have liked them to be friends or at be least cool with each other? (we see that mildred gets along fine with esme and sybil!) but im sure ethel's constant bullying did not help.

so ethel saying "you still don't hate me, do you?" /i/ think was ethel making a statement that she's actually trying to get mildred to hate her. not because she's evil, but because she doesn't want mildred's pity. and because she doesn't have someone to help her work shit out, she wants "good influences" removed from her life completely, so she doesn't have to feel inferior to them.
