You should make sure to check if the fundraiser is verified. Some scams will say they are verified, but they don’t say by who, which is one of the warning signs of a scammer. Paypal is commonly used by scammers, and scammers will always use a private account instead of a donation pool where you can see the raised funds. (example of a donation pool) There are so many common signs of scams, so I just recommend reading this guide.

I recommend to follow kyra45 or anonthescambuster, they document scams.
