the default parallelism between louis lestat and armand re: treatment of claudia makes me so mad i see so many posts (bad way to live) that are like FUCK all these MEN they ALL need to DIE VIOLENTLY. and i absolutely think the story at least as Louis is telling it is ABOUT how louis failed claudia. and about the specific horror and constraint of being someone’s daughter, inherent selfishness of parenthood. but that is so distinct from . the abuse . she is abused by the other two . louis is also abused by the other two. claudia equating her abusers to louis in her anger (every vampire i ever met was a bastard) is one thing but for people in their meta analysis of the show to constantly lump louis in with both their abusers is deeply irritating

also in the tags of one of these posts the op was like “ironically armand is the only one who doesn’t infantilize her and see her as a prop in louis and lestats stories” which is just not true . he kills her for being lestat’s daughter. he puts her in a frilly dress and forces her to wear it constantly to know her place as the eternal child. playing a character named loulou which besides obviously being very close to louis is a diminutive for wolf in french. “claudia de lioncourt.” armand in san francisco accusing louis of throwing claudia's name around for "cover" when what he thinks louis really wants to talk about is lestat lestat lestat lestat. he saw what claudia's death did to louis and his perception is STILL that it's really all about lestat. he doesnt even hate her in her own right he doesnt think louis loves her in her own right. he hates her bc she is the most effective possible tether lestat has on louis.

the absurdity of the “fuck these men!” blanket encompassing louis is made very obvious by like . louis and claudia clutching at each other screaming each others names even though louis was harsh and unfair to her right before!! she wanted to come back to see him. even when she’s resentful of him during the trial she’s always fiercely protective of him. and then louis is hauled off to be buried alive while claudia is killed at armand’s command. and regardless of what you think lestat’s culpability in the trial itself is, he has documentedly wanted her dead, beaten her up, dragged her home kicking and screaming, threatened to crush her bones.
