stupidest most mortifyingest ways this has happened to me so far

-first ever time was in high school when a friend told a joke from a post or something at marching band practice and I got super aggro and was like how did you find me and found out she did not know it was me. Sorry nic💔

-screenshot of own post sent to me by friends with some variation of ‘lol you would find this funny’ ‘this reminded me of you’ or ‘they write like you talk’ x15-20 times

- go over to this girl’s house to watch a movie in grad school. one of my dumb ass posts abt a book series she liked was printed out and thumbtacked to the bulletin board by the door.

-screenshot of a 15 note flop post I wrote otw to class showed up on a girl I had just met in college’s instagram story

- someone I met from the other side of the country at a networking thing repeated phrase I wrote in stupid joke post the year before

- got told ‘this is kinda dumb lol’ by irl oomf and shown a TikTok of someone repeating something I wrote verbatim but less funny

- told my friend a story abt something funny that had happened to me earlier this week. He was like I know you stole this from Reddit you don’t have to lie. Whipped out his phone showed me a screenshot of my own post.

- quoted in an article on polygon dot com as “viral tumblr user.” I didn’t use an article for comedic effect and they [sic]’d me. I found out about this happened to me because my father sent it to me and was like isn’t [article subject] interesting have you noticed this happening in your life

I know normal people can just pass their bill over and around an object and know most things worth knowing about it, but humans don't have electroreceptors At All. They only have mechanoreceptors. Which are most concentrated in the aforementioned 'hands'... and in their mouths.

They do also have eyes, and their vision is actually pretty acute. But their optic and mechanic sensory inputs aren't integrated together like electro-mechanic sense is. So they have these two fairly sophisticated sensory complexes that Barely talk to each other.

No wonder they try to bring the two inputs together in their environment then; picking things up and turning them around allows them to apply both their mechanical and optical senses to the object. They're just trying to make up for a deficiency of neural organisation.

And like. I mentioned the other concentration of mechanoreceptors is in their mouth... So just be glad they mostly grow out of constantly wrapping their viscera-looking tongue around everything.

#my family does this thing#when we've majorly unfucked a room or done chore that we were putting off#or whatever. Any sort of household Improvement.#'Come brag on me.'#I means come look I cleaned/rearranged/did dishes/put away the laundry#and the scripted response is 'oh nice it looks SO much better in here now'#like my mom did this when we were kids.#'girls comr brag on the garage I finally organized it so I can get my car in there'#and we go and 'ooh' and 'aah' and tell her how nice it looked and how she did a good job#and we could have her 'come brag on' us for like doing the dishes or cleaning our rooms#I do it to my wife now too#it's a dialogue that means#'I did a chore and it feels like an Accomplishment even if it objectively wasn't a big thing. Please acknowledge this.'#and#'Wow you sure did do a thing. It has improved our material circumstance even if only in a small way. Thank you for doing it.'#like yeah scrubbing the pans is my Job and it's a Little Task but sometimes it feels like a Big Task#and it's nice to have an Accepted Script where I can just demand 'I have functioned as an independent adult praise me with great praise' - by @thepioden
