Let's get into how my canon is connected to history and the things I'm still not sure about!

First of all, this man is the local version of the original Impaler/Vlad Tepes/Vlad Dracula/whatever other names he has. Vladislav (not Vladimir), or just Vlad. His appearance, of course, has nothing in common with the appearance of the Impaler. I have a feeling that I've neglected him and the design. Anyway, my brain remembers. And I love how I've made this out of that blue nonsense 🤣

I have a mention in the info post about my weirdness, and I'll explain it here too. "Dracula" is Vlad's one and only son, as well as Drac's personal name. Not a surname/last name. Initially, Dracul was a nickname given to Vlad (and you know what meaning it has), and he really liked it, so he officially named his son that way, "son of the Dragon". As for (the) "Impaler", this is... also a nickname given to Vlad for an obvious reason. It's in this spelling that the surname currently exists, which have: Vlad himself, his daughter Lydia, his son Dracula, and Drac's children and wife.

He is also the former ruler of Wallachia (had a king title) and a warrior who, in his youth (long before his son was born in 1477), fought against the Ottomans (humans AND vampires I think). It's my alternative history. He's the one and only Vlad, because he would NEVER name his son after himself.

He has a love-hate relationship with that swimsuit of hers 😆

It's funny that this couple existed even before KPDH's Rujinu, and now I'm unconsciously inspired by them, even though they have little in common.

Well, I can say it has certainly changed for the better 😅 It's not like I once had one cool art style, and then I moved on to another cool art style. I'm just glad that my skill has improved a lot now.

The heads were enormous, the eyes too big, and the hands too small, and it looked like something out of a horror movie, especially because of their eyes' eerie stare. Vlad and Drac's heads looked like cucumbers. And their noses were at least 2/3 of their faces long. You're lucky you can't see it😭

When I saw your question, I looked into the folder where I keep the old drawings, which now look very cringe and ugly. I only looked at them in miniature, without opening them, otherwise I would have died of cringe. It's awful 🤣🤣🤣

Although it's nice to remember what my ideas were like about five years ago, when I was a dumb kid and life was happier.

Like, Ferox used to be a basic slim white dude with much less hair at the very beginning of his existence, and he knew how to flirt. But he was almost "born" with a motorcycle, so you see this idea stayed. Don't ask how I drew the motorcycle… Fred... hasn't changed much when it comes to looks, but now he has a lot of sad lore. I also took a quick look at a couple of old artworks with Ferox's parents, and… Why did his father look like some kind of aristocrat, when in fact he was literally a hobo who could walk around with dirt on his cheek for three days, and an overly ambitious thief who led himself into a dead end in life? Everything makes a lot more sense now...

In Hotel Transylvania's case, vampires can reproduce like humans, which is what I'm basing my hcs on.

Population

It's difficult to estimate the exact population of vampires, but I'd say that it has been steadily increasing since the 20th century. The birth rate is moderate every year, and the death rate is... well, low. The concept of a baby boom has never been applied to vampires. Vampire generations on a societal scale are also quite confusing and vague. Anyway, that's how it works.

Fertility

Vampires can have kids from the time they reach sexual maturity until the end of their lives. Assuming that their ability to conceive a child is completely identical to that of humans, we have an overpopulation problem, given their vampire immortality. And that's why it is different.

Male vampires have their own hormonal cycles, roughly similar to those of females. Unlike human males, who can produce healthy sperm on any day of the month, vampires have a more tricky and challenging cycle. While a female vampire has a fertility window similar to that of humans, lasting 5-7 days including ovulation itself, males are most fertile for approximately the same number of days each month, but these days are usually separated by 4-5 "normal" days. On "normal" days, the probability of conception drops to 30 to 1 %. It works regardless of libido level.

An interesting fact: these days are easier to predict than ovulation, as the signs are more obvious and occur during these 24 hours (for example, heaviness in the testicles, actively seeking for any physical affection (even just hugs or back scratching), and spontaneous erections). This usually helps when you're planning to have a baby.

Also, the longer a continuous series of sexual acts lasts, the higher the fertility becomes. This is due to the activity of the blood that circulates through the body and, as it were, "revitalizes" a vampire and their reproductive organs. When a vampire is not aroused, the blood is still and the body is colder.

Fertility is theoretically constant. But there are nuances that affect the likelihood of conception:

The relationship between permanent sexual partners. The less time a couple spends together, the lower their fertility is.

Health problems, including mental health. It's clear that as health deteriorates, so does sexual desire, but fertility is also affected, requiring a bit more time to recover once the underlying condition is resolved.

Age, but not in that sense. It's not a matter of physiology, but rather that as vampires age, they tend to prefer having a cup of tea and taking a nap in their favorite armchair over banging.

The season of the year. This is a manifestation of a characteristic of vampires as beings that lie somewhere between humans and animals. They have something like a heat/breeding time in spring (rarely in autumn). Fortunately, there are pills for that too.

Pregnancy and contraception

Like humans, vampire pregnancies last about 9 months. But vampires rarely have twins (it's usually inherited in some families), and even more rarely have triplets (although it IS possible, and my characters are an example of this). There have been no documented cases of four or more children being born at once.

Before ultrasounds and tests, pregnancy was most often detected by typical symptoms (nausea, dizziness, fatigue, weakening of magic, etc.). However, with heightened vampire hearing, it is already possible to hear the heartbeat of the fetus in the second month, if you place your ear against the abdomen, as is commonly done, for example, by the child's father. Pregnant women can also be recognized by other vampires by their smell, even if they don't see them in person. By the second trimester, the smell is quite distinct. But to be 100% sure, a vampire must be very familiar with it.

There are no days when the probability of getting pregnant is zero, so vampires have been taking care of birth control since ancient times. Through trial and error, yes, but when you have the magic and the right knowledge, it eventually works out.

Vampire forms of contraception

Today, the most popular methods of birth control are regular condoms (although there are also vampire-produced ones) and oral contraceptives. Special potions/drinking meds that can deprive both men and women of their fertility for a certain period of time haven't fallen out of use over the centuries and are still used if a vampire does not plan to have children in the next 10 years or longer.

Since fertility does not completely disappear with age, vampires who no longer plan to have children have a choice: to continue taking a powerful liquid medication or to be sterilized surgically or chemically. The latter option is more common.

Parenthood

By 21st century, vampires had their first children on average between the ages of 400 and 500. Despite this, the average age of vampires having their first kid is gradually decreasing towards 300 years due to a decrease in the average life expectancy. The situation may change, but not now.
