back then i was kinda surprised tamaki made it to the cover? Like it was rather obvious I guess because covers priority in kemoji is usually characters that have never appeared on the cover + characters that did something in the vol. so tamaki got priority over say robara or akagi (thank god)
the translation is really good as always btw, i like how easy it reads. Pretty much in character for mayo too.
good thing they also made effort to properly convey how brainwashed people talk.
Sigh...back then it all really felt like a start to something very big didnt it? Visions and all that. I still feel like somewhere along the way the plot got cut in half/Aimoto had to speed things up. all these lore set ups and such? get ready to see it be brushed off for kinda half-assed characters arcs later on.
I really like the way Mikage speech was interpreted and also settled on being a 'he' i guess...I mean. Well, I'm kinda bummed out that Mikage kinda forgot about his seemingly initial plan of promoting personification (humanization) of plant-like kemono. I thought that was gonna become his vision. also it was never explained why he has a first name family name.
putting japanese name + translation is also a good way to do it. thanks for just going with apes for shoujou bc kemoji shoujou are basically that instead of the usual youkai interpretation.
imagine being in genji for 3+ years already and you still written as 'newb' im crying. Well, there's actually a change! Tsunamayo-san > Mayo-san. The sir kills me but yeah thats very kotaro.

The lore/buildup bits scattered around are also doing a good job. But looking back I feel a little sad. it felt so fresh and nice in the beginning. (sorry just not a big fan of some recent (or not so recent anymore) developments) (i think with nobimaru and inari reveals kemoji is still back on the good track though) (yes i just wish the whole kaidou thing and also yamabuki was written just a bit better you know)
And looking back, I miss Haru too...it's for the best if the extent of their power is never explained honestly lol. It'd give me a headache. I feel like kemoji doesn't need to dwell into onmyouji territory as well.

Generally, the translators have been doing a great job with kaede gags.
And again it does an amazing job of rendering all sorts of characters like Akagi or Iyo accurately...i love reading it in english. I'm reading kemoji in many languages and while japanese is of course the absolute canon best to me the english translation is the best translation that adapts every main character so well.
The mamono-research-before-timeskip flashback was nice. Makes it seem as if shoujou were always there.
that got me so hyped back then..........for reference, duties-wise only raigo was really explained to full lol. we know more of his ministry than of others.
Mikage: i feel like the mamono research part got sidelined for Kaidou kaiju stuff/ii. Seems like the mamono ministry is basically all apes too except for Mikage himself.
Mayu: well she has a secretary and the karasu numbers are apparently low...and both do the transportation job? i just wish we could see at least a glance at these karasu mobs doing their job. unless it really were these karasu mamono we see randomly.
Hoshikuma: ha ha you know im tired of repeating the same thing. my hc now is that a) he just had whatever left of his 100 kemono of different species gang left transferred to the ministry of justice. or b) he literally works there alone
Obligatory 'kaidou sama i am your no1 soldier' comment. out of all the ministers he also got the most writing...like his ministry feels real in the sense that we see apes working etc, like with Raigou. Environment&Justice might as well just exist in in name and consist of Mayuyama and Hoshikuma as far as kemoji's writing goes.
(i just wish they all were given equal time you know)
also real shame aimoto couldnt replicate his coolness for the following volumes.

oh yeah and my only complaint is this weird wording...it's supposed to be a doctor from overseas/a foreigner (Thin). The mamono are sent to Thin's lol. who's in japan.
It's one of my favorite volumes post time skip. my least favorite is vol 24 despite kaidou being on the cover.
