Happy Father's Day to all fathers!

My Father's Day artwork features a father lifting his daughter, portrayed as pre-colonial Visayans. My father's Father's Day wish was for any piece of art, so I picked a unique piece that blended pre-colonial Visayas with Father's Day.

Because my father is so proud of this artwork, I chose to post it (𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘺 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬s 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘑𝘶𝘯𝘦). I will post the May and June art series, probably next month.

I've finished a carousel post displaying my April artworks, which have a “𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥”. My background in Multimedia Arts, which includes graphic design for marketing and advertising classes, combined with my current professional graphic design work, forms the basis of this post.

I'm considering rebranding my art account by enhancing my content and artwork, perhaps with more carousel posts, graphic designs, and novel art styles. Let us see about that! 😊

☀️ 𝗘𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿-𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁! 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲!☀️

Happy National Heritage Month! I finished my artistic reinterpretation of an elite manggubat (warrior) wearing a (𝟭) 𝗕𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗴 in Liray patterns (stripe patterns) and holding a (𝟮) 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗶 with a “Lawi-lawi” blade profile and a “Minandawe” type handle. This is the second post from my "𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐬" 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞s. The Pinuti featured in this series is more than just a subject of study. It's a celebration of Heritage Month, reflecting my Sugbuanon (Cebuano) roots.

𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁’𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: 1. I only emphasize Visayan weapons that appear in historical accounts of the pre-colonial Visayas. 2. As depicted in this illustration, William Henry Scott notes that the most valiant of the Visayan warriors chose to wear only their bahags and pudongs (head coverings) when going into battle. 3. Tattoos adorning the neck, cheeks, eyes, and forehead were exclusively worn by elite warriors.

𝗘𝘁𝘆𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆: ( 1 ) 𝗕𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗴- loincloth that was commonly used by men throughout the pre-colonial Philippines. Compared to the bahag worn in the Cordilleras, the Visayan version is larger and wider, extending further down the thighs. The color and fabric of a man's bahag signify his social status. Similar to the pudong, a deep red bahag indicates that the man had personally killed an enemy. ( 2 ) 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗶 or 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲 - a Cebuano term which means “𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥” or “𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘥𝘦” from the root word 𝑷𝒖𝒕𝒊, meaning “𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦”. The Cebuanos hold the Pinuti as a traditional blade, suitable for general use and eskrima.

Someone suggested that I should share some of my work with sources, information, and references, and here it is.

This is the first time sharing this kind of post. Rather than posting this last month, I chose to share it in 𝙈𝙖𝙮 because it is more relevant to the 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙃𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝 𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 here in the Philippines. While I acknowledge some aspects of my graphic design could be better, I am pleased with this result.

Finally, I finished my artistic reinterpretation of a Tumao / Noble man wearing a (𝟭) 𝗟𝗶𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗵𝗶𝗻 and holding a (𝟮) 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗴. This is the first post from my "𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐬" 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬, showcasing multiple versions (2 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 2 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴. 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦-𝘶𝘱 𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘵).

I'll be sharing various depictions of men with Visayan weapons. Upon completion of this series, I'll also present infographic posters detailing their weaponry, attire, and accessories.

𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁’𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

1. I only emphasize Visayan weapons that appear in historical accounts of the pre-colonial Visayas. 2. My inspiration for this featured character's concept originated from observing a photographer in a studio setting under a spotlight. My on-the-job training experience in photo editing, specifically with individuals and places at school, served as my secondary source of inspiration. 3. My designs for the Talibong and its scabbard draw inspiration from multiple Talibongs and scabbards on the internet.

( 1 ) 𝗟𝗶𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗵𝗶𝗻 - formal wear worn during special occasions, according to William Henry Scott ( 2 ) 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗴 - a traditional single-edged sword or large knife originating from the Visayas region of the Philippines, particularly associated with Aklan and Panay island.

Alcohol markers are new to me, and I'm still experimenting with them. I'm grateful to my co-worker at my graphic design company for letting me borrow her markers. It has been a while since I last used colored pencils, and I'm grateful they are still available. I can use them again after many years of not doing so because of digital art.

My January arts are complete and will be the last “entry” in this green journal. I managed to fill every page in my green journal, even though some “entries” are related to my work, school, and church activities.

I’m happy that I bought a new mixed-media sketch notebook, which is quite unlike my green journal. The green journal is solely for note-taking and features thin pages, whereas my new sketchbook has thick pages perfect for markers, pencils, watercolors, and more.

As a STEM (𝙎𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙏𝙚𝙘𝙝𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮, 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙝) student in my senior high and an avid reader of non-fiction books like geometry patterns and natural science, I have developed a passion for both Math and Science, besides my appreciation for art and history. As a child, I read many science books with beautiful illustrations of nature's structures and patterns, which sparked my curiosity about the relationship between math and science. After years of reading natural science and mathematics-related subjects, and noticing patterns in botany, zoology, and the geometric aspects of nature, I realized these things are intertwined with each other. From fractal art to geometric designs, and from mathematical geometry to patterns in nature, it reveals hidden patterns and the interconnectedness of math and science in ways that transcend human understanding. When I researched the Italian Renaissance artists, their discoveries and works, everything became clear. Their artistic works showcase their detailed paintings and sculptures and also reveal the integration of their math, geometry, and natural sciences studies, such as physics and biology, into their art. These factors led me to incorporate elements of natural science, like biology and nature, and mathematics for geometric patterns and compositions in my illustrations of indigenous or “antique arts”. I feel very blessed this year, 2025. I did not only create traditional drawings in my journal notebook but also received three awards from the Japanese team. For more info, I'm currently working at a Japanese-owned IT consulting and graphic design company. My role involves creating social media and online advertisements for platforms like their website and social media accounts.

Here are my artworks from the "Buwan ng Wika" celebration last month in the Philippines. These artworks resonated with me because they incorporated elements of our languages and the local names for our plants.

I’m excited to share my July artworks with you, all created using a pen. Every July here in the Philippines, we celebrate “Nutrition Month.” This time, I opted for a cleaner, less detailed art style in my pieces, as I wanted to experiment with this approach.

This is my first artwork posted for this month's Philippine "𝑩𝒖𝒘𝒂𝒏 𝒏𝒈 𝑾𝒊𝒌𝒂" celebration, featuring the Cebuano word 𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗔 [sa. pâ.].

It is one of the concept arts for my upcoming comic, "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐨". It shows the character's childhood stories of time spent playing with her sister while the mother sits and watches them.

Our family trips to southern Cebu and Southern Leyte inspire this art, drawing on the beautiful streams we encounter.
