βIβve been talking to an angelβ
βIβve been talking to an angelβ
i cannot stop rewatching the bon and rosemary scene β¦ the way bon views rosemary as his angel, as this creator who made him anew, and erased his past self and pain β and here he now is, able to provide the same gift for her. to find her a new body, a new identity, since her βselfβ has also been erased. you have bon still looking to her for salvation and comfort, even after murdering her and manipulating her. he sounds scared when he asks her to say it, to say that sheβs happy, as if heβs terrified that she isnβt ( because then, who is? ). bon, who places his head in her lap, acting as if a child soaking up the comfort from their mother, telling rosemary sheβs loved. that he loves her. ( you love me, she says ) the video ending on that image of a hideous monster in the lap of a sheep β some twisted form of intimacy, of a love story. thereβs just something about all of that!
I keep seeing the argument pop up that Felix has undergone some change from episode 4 to episode 5 which has made his character more unlikable or more evil then his previously wimpy appearances. However I donβt think thatβs true, as thus far weβve really only seen him through his own perspective, and now weβre seeing him through the perspective of others. He (assumingely) threatens the restraining order out of cowardice and his inability to face Rose when he knows sheβs right about him. In the police tape, we see him nervous, attempting to keep his story straight in order to keep himself out of trouble. His character hasnβt changed at all in this episode, weβre just seeing him from a new perspective.
(Not trying to emphasize or downplay the events of the episode, just pointing out my thoughts)

It makes me very sad the way people talk about Bon sometimes because truly the most salient aspect of his character to me is that he believes this. Everything he says, especially everything he says to Rose, like. He believes this. He believes this is true. He believes this is better. He believes this is beautiful. He looks at Rose and sees a woman drowning, just as he was drowning. So much like him. So much like him. How can he not pull her free? How can he leave her to drown?
To me, that's so much more interesting than the thought that he just lies. It's so fucking compelling the thought that he relates to Rosemary, and that Rosemary relates to him in turn. That they see themselves within each other, and that Bon promises her a future where she does not have to live with the agony of her Self. Where she can finally be free of all the causes of her misery.
Part of this is why I'm sort of dissatisfied with interpretations that Bon views Rosemary maternally. I dislike it a lot in how it relates to Rose's character, but this is mostly a Bon Post so I'm talking about Bon. He obviously regards Rose with a lot of reverence, but he also regards himself with a lot of reverence. He Loves himself, Loves what he has become. He approaches Rosemary as an equal---a broken person, like him. An artist, like him. Perhaps, to him, the greatest artist in the world. The one who created Him, the identity which saved him, the identity he now lives for.
He's so desperate to bring her into his world. To help her. Please, please, let me fix you! He asks her, waits for her permission, because he also wants to prove to himself that his ideology is correct. That it's functional. That it really did help him, so it really will help her. We know he had to trick Susan, because Susan couldn't possibly understand. Susan was too connected to her human life to understand the beauty of what he was showing her. Too ignorant to the pain of the world. Too naive. But Rosemary has suffered. She has been broken almost as thoroughly as he was. She is a ghost among the living, beyond herself, merely haunting her own life. When people look at Rose they see the specter of the woman-who-was, not the woman in front of them. But Bon sees her, the broken her, and loves her because he knows her, knows he can help her. Is so desperate to help her. Because if She is Beautiful, if She is Happy, then it really is true that He is Beautiful, that He is Happy.
That's why The Scene is so important:
He needs to hear it. He needs to know it's true. He needs to know it's really possible for people like them to be fixed. But she isn't. She isn't happy. Bon isn't truly happy, either. But they must tell it to themselves, because otherwise, what was this all for? It's not like they have another option, now.
Based on Norman Rockwell's self-portrait!

i got these knockoff boots online and instead of the brand name on the tag they have the name of an apparently nonexistent martin scorsese movie??? what the fuck
THE ORIGINAL? ON MY DASH
this post led to a series of events that had martin scorsese himself reacting to his alleged movie goncharov and it has less than 400k notes almost 3 years later?

The best magicians don't reveal their tricks.
the thing about mothers in fiction is that a lot of fandoms seem to be under the impression that the worst thing a woman can possibly do is be a bad mother. like they can forgive deadbeat dads easily but the moment a woman is a bad or even mediocre mother she's the devil incarnate to them. and then you're like "i like her and i think she's interesting" and they immediately go "oh so you think it's okay to be a bad mother (which is the most evil thing a woman can be)". and don't even get me started on how they react to female characters who are bad stepmothers
me: i love this ship because they understand each other on a level no one else does
also me: i love this ship because they misunderstand each other constantly and itβs causing irreparable damage to them and everyone around them
