daedalus chuckles to himself, a bit surprised at jake's curiosity— "nothing your brain would understand. as for the entrance to the underworld—" daedalus begins but jake cuts him off.

"try me— it's probably just basic depth perception. using contrast, directional light, and shadows? it's not the complicated nor is it that hard to understand. just because i'm half human doesn't mean i'm not smart. you're human aren't you? you think since you got some praise by the gods you're above humans?

last time i checked… you're mortal. just cursed to live out your days down here making inventions nobody really cares about anymore—"

"shut your mouth child!" daedalus cuts him off.

jake's struck a nerve. he chuckles at the man's reaction— "look i get it. you just wanna be praised for your inventions again. maybe even praised at all— so help me. show me where the entrance to the underworld is and i'll put in a good word with my dad." jake adds.

"you'd do that son of poseidon?" daedalus asks, face softening at the unexpected kindness.

"i'll do what i can." is all jake says.

for a moment the two are staring at one another. a silence that's filled with hollow wind that wafts occasionally down in the pit. "i can't show you where the entrance is…" daedalus says and jake sighs in frustration. "what do you mean? it has not be somewhere?" he says, walking over to daedalus with haste.

"it's not a where— it's a who."

jake furrows his brows at the man's explanation, completely unsure of what that entails.

── .✦ jake and daedalus walk for some time. jake telling him of his journey to save hades' daughter.

"her name's yn— not hades' daughter. please refer to her properly." jake says whenever daedalus would talk about you. the older man would clear his throat and apologize quietly before referring to you by name instead of who your father was. jake didn't care if he was referred to as 'son of poseidon' or 'poseidon's son' it didn't bother him one bit.

but you being referred to as 'hades' daughter' or 'the daughter of hades' rubbed him the wrong way. especially after knowing how it's made you feel when you found out about it back at the academy and how it's probably been the bane of you existence without you even recalling any memories of it.

"we're here." daedalus announces.

jake looks at him with a confused look on his face, "we're here? are you sure, we're in the middle of a tunnel." he responds, pointing out the obvious. there wasn't a door or an entrance, there wasn't even a 'who' that daedalus referred to earlier without further explanation.

"this is as far as i can go— just continue down the tunnel and you'll meet them." daedalus says, directing jake's gaze towards the rest of the tunnel.

"them? who is them?" jake asks, turning back to the man but suddenly he's gone. nothing left behind besides a chill on jake's spine despite the stale air. he swallows the lump in his throat before he continues down the tunnel, footsteps heavy as they scuff against the dirty cave floor, hand still tightly wrapped around the necklace his father gave him.

he can't telling himself that he could feel you getting closer and closer— it was more of a reassurance for himself at that point.

as jake continued walking, he could see two orbs of light dancing around at the end of the tunnel. no entrance, no grand gesture or terrifying aura that said "entrance to the underworld"— just a dead end with two orbs of light floating in the air in a rhythmic pattern. he walked closer to the orbs— slowly, but as he got closer he could hear tiny and faint whispers coming from them.

"he– hello?" he muttered softly and suddenly the orbs stop moving altogether.

they're levitating steadily in place right in front of jake like he's a deer caught in headlights.

"i'm jake, son of— poseidon" the two orbs finish his sentence for him. "we know." they add in unison.

"okay… i'm looking for the entrance to— the underworld." they finish his sentence again.

"we know." again, in unison.

"alright… do you guys know— everything." again, finishing his sentence.

"we do." in unison.

jake sighs, a bit frustrated.

"so where is it? how do i get to the underworld?" jake blurts out, trying to get his sentence out faster than they could finish it for him. the two orbs don't respond or react right away, just continue to float in front of him. when jake opens his mouth to ask again, the orbs begin to dance like they did before only this time he can hear their whispers a lot louder. still hushed but loud enough.

"okay, son of poseidon. we'll help you get to the underworld— under one condition." they said again in unison.

"anything— i'll do anything!" jake responds. he knows saying he'll do anything is a dangerous scale to wage with but thankfully what the orbs say next doesn't lead to anything destructive like one may think.

"here are two doors." the orb on the left says and a bright flash appears and disappears just as quick. there's now two doors on the dead end behind them with each orb floating in front of each one.

"one leads to the underworld—" the left orb adds.

"while the other will lead to your death." the orb on the right says.

"the only way to figure out which door leads to the underworld, you'll need to ask us one question. and only one of us will answer." they say in unison.

"i will always tell the truth." the right orb says.

"and i will always a lie." the left orb continues.

"you cannot ask us which door is which—

so, son of poseidon, what is your question and who are you asking?" they say, once again in perfect unison.

jake huffs, dropping to the floor in a seated position to ponder. jake wasn't the most intelligent guy around but he also wasn't dull in the slightest. his mind worked in ways that a lot of his peers didn't understand— not because he was a genius but because he had a level of emotional intelligence that many lacked.

he played several scenarios in his head.

there was a long list of questions jake could ask but because he could only ask one question to one of them, he had to make sure the question he chose is the correct one. asking them which door is which is simply too easy, he could ask the orb of truth which door is the one he's looking for and the orb would tell him— it makes sense as to why their conditions are quite specific.

some time passes when jake finally decides on his question. he raises his head and stands up from the ground, tightening his backpack around his shoulders as he puts the necklace safely into his pocket.

"you—" he starts, looking at the orb of lies.

"if i were to ask your sister what door leads to the underworld— what door will she point to?" jake asks.

the orb of lies begins to dance in the air. trails of light following along as it moves in spirals and configured formations before it eventually comes to a halt right in front of the door on the left.

jake sighs as he looks at the two orbs who are now both floating in front of one door.

he chuckles to himself with a small grin before he says, "thank you." and walks towards the door on the right. his hand wraps around the doorknob tightly, turning it in one slow motion— hesitating to push it open because of the tiniest sliver of doubt in his mind.

"for yn.." he whispers to himself, shutting his eyes and taking a deep breath before he bravely pushes through the door on the right and is met with a vast land dark structures made of bones, dark misty blue and swamp green filters in the air, and the smell of souls wreak across the land.

"congratulations son of poseidon. you've chosen the correct door— good luck on the rest of your journey." both orbs say together before they fade into the darkness, the door behind him slowly shuts and disappears into nothing— leaving jake standing in the middle of the underworld.

"just hold on a bit longer, yn— i'm coming." he says, cracking his neck and making his way through the underworld; a giant castle in the distance with dark clouds swirling above as his next target.

── .✦ you've let out an irritated groan for the 10th time in the last 5 minutes.

your father— who is still quite disappointed in your rebellious behavior against his demands— has decided that in order for you to learn your lesson and to get you to obey him again, he'd treat you like one of the unfortunate souls trapped in his underworld.

he chained you to your room, a shackle made of bones from the souls who once wrapped themselves around flesh and said bone. it was around your ankle and it was long enough to allow for you to wander around your room but it stopped just a few feet shy of the door. something that's just an arm's reach away— so close yet so far. taunting you in the worst way possible and calling out to you like a song.

your father was cruel in a million different ways— he's tortured people for a lot less than he wants from you and yet you're treated the same way. sure, less painful and it's all because you're his daughter, but not in the way he'll let you off so easily. showing you that at the end of the day, he's your father and he's the one in charge.

a light scuffling sound followed by hushed groans cause you to look towards the window in the far side of your room. it's the one place that you can reach that is close to being outside of your room but the chain around your ankle still holds you back from even thinking of jumping out of the window as a means of escape. you cautiously made your way to the window, the chain on your ankle rolls across the floor with each step that you take, the sounds coming from outside getting closer— worry in your head on what it could be. given your track record with beasts coming after you, you were afraid it was another beast but you figured that your father was likely the reason behind them in the past, meaning this couldn't be a beast but instead it was—

"jake?" you gasp, a little too loud causing you to slap your hand over your mouth in shock.

jake smiles at you from below, his hands are tightly gripping the veins along the walls of the castle to get to you like he was a prince saving you— a princess– from captivity.

"hey yn. miss me?" he asks, grin growing wider when he finally sees you again after what felt like forever since you had gone missing. he continues to climb higher until he's reached the windowsill— he groans as he reaches forward and pulls himself up with your help. his feet lands steadily inside of your room and he doesn't even give you anytime to ask another question or for him to catch his breath before he's gently grabbing your arm and pulling you into a long awaited embrace.

"i'm so glad you're okay— i was so worried… everyone was." he says into your hair, rubbing your back gently and when he feels your arms wrap around his body, you can feel the way his body relaxes against your touch. "i'm sorry i took so long, but i'm here now. i came to bring you back…" jake adds after he pulls away, hands cupping your face so he could get a good look at you.

you're still beautiful as ever despite the way you've got bags under your eyes and worry on your skin. he didn't care— you're the most beautiful girl he's ever laid his eyes on. in this life time and any other life time after. "jake…" you breathe out, one of your hands leaves his waist, placing it over his as you rub your thumb over his knuckles. you can feel the roughness of his skin, the way there's patches of dirt that trail from his pants to his the height of his cheek. his dry lips and dull skin that had a thin layer of sweat— but despite it all, he's still got that look in his eyes like nothing matters besides the person he's got his eyes on.

"how are you here right now? you can't be here… i–" you had a million and one questions for him but he just shook his head before pulling you into another reassuring hug. "don't worry about that, i'm here now and that's all that matters. we've got to go— i'll answer every question you have but right now we need to go back to the academy where you're safe."

he reaches for your ankle and gets to work on freeing you from your restraints. he's in the middle of explaining how the two of you will get home, a shell on his father's necklace that when smashed, would transport him and anyone he's touching to the location of the other shell— the one that nicholas found back in jake's dorm but suddenly the castle begins to rumble.

the walls and the floor shifts in geographic shapes and angles and the room changes from the place you grew up in to the center of the castle, the heart, the throne room— where your father sits at the top on his throne made of bones and drowned souls, staring down at you and jake with venom in his eyes. "well, well, well— if it isn't my daughter's little fish friend." hades says, chuckling to himself at his attempt at a joke.

jake clenches his jaw at the sight of your father, feeling himself already walking forward but you're quick to hold onto his arm, pulling him and silently begging him to stay with your eyes. jake instantly softens at your gaze— choosing to stand at your side rather than to brave the presence of your father by sizing him up. "daughter— i told you he was coming. would i ever lie to you?" he says, a sinister grin on his face as he tilts his head, averting his gaze towards you.

you shake your head at him in disbelief, hands tightening around jake's bicep. he turns to look at you, confused at your father's statement— "what does he mean by that?" jake whispers and you explain everything to him. that your father knew jake was coming to save you, that he was watching jake throughout his whole journey to the underworld, that he even found it amusing and somewhat impressive that jake was able to get passed several obstacles with an ease only expected from a child of a supreme god.

"aren't you forgetting something, daughter?" your father adds when you finish.

you glare at him, shaking your head in an attempt to stop him from saying anything else, but it doesn't work.

"son of poseidon— have you ever wondered why my daughter showed up at your little academy out of nowhere? what her purpose must've been? i can assure you it wasn't to get an education like the rest of you. unlike my daughter she has everything she needs to learn with me but i decided that she was finally ready for something much bigger than she ever expected.

it's no wonder she almost failed but it's alright. it worked out in the end." your dad says with an amused tone like he was trying to stop himself from laughing.

"jake— don't listen to him.." you say through gritted teeth. jake didn't know what any of it meant but it wasn't going to change the fact that he came all this way with one thing on his mind. you. he was going to bring you back safely no matter what hades did to try and stop the two of you. whatever hades said— he didn't care.

"aww, young love. how… gross." your father says before standing from his throne abruptly, causing you and jake to back up slightly.

"son of poseidon— jake? was it? i'll tell you exactly what you're thinking of right now, how none of this really makes sense to you. my daughter was tasked to find the hidden academy of olympus, infiltrate and take the life of a child of a supreme god.

you.

it was just an unfortunate case that she lost her memory in the progress but— they're back now. thankfully because you're so head over heels for my daughter i didn't have to worry about that any longer knowing you'll come after her anyway.

thanks for saving me the trouble."

he says the last part with a lower tone. much deeper— darker with hooded eyes as a chilling breeze passes through the room.

"jake— i'm sorry please don't believe him. i would never do anything to kill you, please, you have to believe me." you say, gripping onto his sleeve and begging that he'll believe you. jake turns around, towering over you as he blocks your vision of your father.

hades can no longer see you with jake standing in front of you, all he can see is jake's back and the way he pulls you into a hug before turning back around to reveal you with tears in your eyes. one that hades tries to tell himself that it doesn't bother him the slightest to see his daughter cry. you're no longer holding onto jake as he steps forward, posture tall and confident despite all of the information he's just learned. that the girl he's fallen in love with was originally instructed to kill him by her father. the same father who has betrayed his own father time and time again.

maybe the apple truly doesn't fall far from the tree.

but maybe, if your father was the tree and you were the apple, you fell off his branches and rolled in a direction opposite of where he's rooted himself into the ground.

"yn, go!" jake shouts and suddenly you're running off into the darkness and jake is using his gift to fill the room with mist, obstructing hades' vision. the god simply laughs at the attempt to hinder him, "you both want to play games? so be it— but don't cry when you've lost." his voice echoes through the room. jake follows the way his eyes leave dark trails in the mist but suddenly disappear without warning.

jake's head is on a swivel, guarding every side of his body to make sure hades can't sneak up on him and when he feels a presence behind him, he's quick to unlatch the golden band across his wrist— one that he got from his father when he was claimed— a trident unfolds and he swings the weapon towards his back and blocks an attack from hades who just attempted to slam jake body first into the ground.

hades' laugh echoes through the room, leaving jake to cautiously watch his surroundings again, weapon swinging in different directions when he gets an inkling that hades made me come from that way.

"enough of this." hades says and a loud clap cuts through the air and the foggy mist jake created for cover suddenly dissolves, leaving jake and your father standing in the middle of the room, facing each other. your dad is much bigger than jake, easily casting a shadow of him— but it doesn't scare jake in the slightest. he grits his teeth and plants his feet sturdier into the ground, bracing himself for any form of attack.

"you're brave, poseidon's son, i'll give you that." your father says as he unsheathes a blade from thin air. the blade is black, devoid of any light and instead of reflecting the light in the room— it absorbs it.

"i'll be sure to leave your body at your father's doorstep when i get out of here." hades says.

jake knew he was no match for the god— but he didn't care. anything for you, like he has said so many other times. he was going to do everything he could to keep you safe and if that meant fighting off your father, a supreme god, then he'll do that.

death didn't scare him— losing you did.

"father– no!" you shouted and it makes both jake and hades turn their heads towards the direction of your voice, but nothing. there's only the shadows that reside in the castle when they look at where your voice came from.

"please! don't do this!" you beg, this time from a different side of the room— still unseen.

your father things you've just gotten better at using your gift of manipulating the shadows and darkness— and you have, that just wasn't the case. hades' eyes bounce around the room as he tries to figure out where your voice is coming from, all the while jake's got his eyes glued on your father's figure, waiting for the right time to strike— knowing that the plan the two of you had set up was working.

just moments before, when jake pulled you into an embrace and covered you from your father's gaze, he whispered something in your ear.

"when i give you the signal, i want you to run towards your father's throne and grab his helm. it'll grant you invisibility and i want you to put it on— use it to hide from your dad until we can escape. i'm not mad at you— i promise." he says, pressing a kiss onto your temple before he parts, not giving you time to respond.

that's exactly what you were doing now.

jake expected you to just hide, to let him handle this until it's over, but of course; you are the daughter of hades, therefore you weren't going to just stand by. you were stronger than that and jake admired that about you.

jake charges towards hades, trident aimed at your father as he roared but your father was faster, stronger, smarter; he easily avoids jake's attack and uses his sheer strength to block jake and his him across the ribs— sending jake across the room and crashing into a pillar.

"nice try, kid." he scoffs.

you watch from the shadows, helm still of your head as your father stalks over to jake.

sword still in his head as he drags the tip of it across the ground, a shrieking sound from the way it scrapes against the pavement makes your skin crawl. it all happens so fast, so sudden— in a blink of an eye, your father goes from being several feet away to right in front of jake, grabbing him by the throat and dragging him up into the air against the pillar.

hades laughs at jake's weak attempts at fighting him off— all being useless.

you had to do something or else jake was going to meet an untimely end. without a second thought, you dash forward, footsteps quick and light to avoid being detected by your father but it was no use, he could sense you running at him so he stretches his hand outwards just as you come close enough, hand also wrapping around your neck. he shakes your body and when the helm falls off of your crown, you're finally revealed and no longer invisible.

"there's my lovely daughter.." your dad says, no amusement in his voice— just disappointment.

"i thought i raised you to be a better warrior but i guess i wasn't harsh enough on you." he says before tossing you aside, your body crashing into the ground and rolling around the floor with a rough thud. you cough out in pain at the impact, eyes wet from anger as you see jake still struggling to breath.

"dad— please! let him go— i'll do anything, please!" you pleading doesn't work.

hades knows better than to wage with his daughter who could easily turn her back like she hasn't done that already. he's already got the son of poseidon in his hands, he wasn't going to let him slip away just because you were begging.

"you and this boy can find each other again in another life—" your father says, turning his head back to jake before dropping him to the ground. jake gasps heavily for air, hand reaching for his neck to soothe the pain from hades' grasp.

you watch as the blade reappears in your father's grasp, raising it over jake's body.

hades doesn't see the way you've found your footing again and he certainly doesn't see the way you run in front of the blade just as he slashes at what he thinks is jake, except the blade goes through something else— someone else.

small whimpers and a pained groan can be heard before the helm falls off your head again.

you had ran for the helm and put it back on before running in front of the blade to stop jake from getting hurt. neither hades or jake saw that coming— you looked at your father with glassy eyes as blood at your stomach where the blade pierced your body. hades' eyes widen in shock when he realizes what he's done, blade instantly dissolving into the darkness and your body falls into your father's arms.

"no… n— no!!" hades shouts when he sees you laying in his arms, bleeding out because of him.

jake shuffles to his feet, stumbling in the process as he's too focused on you.

"i'm so– sorry.. dad." you mutter, wincing in pain.

hades shakes his head in shock. this isn't how it was supposed to go— hades told you that he needed two children of a supreme god to free him. your father loved you, he was never going to use you as a sacrifice, he was hoping that after you had brought one of the supreme god's kids as a sacrifice, then one or more would come after him, giving him another demigod to sacrifice instead of his own daughter.

he was never going to actually use you the way he said he would— he was just saying that to mask his true intentions, knowing that losing more of your friends would only anger you further.

but this— this wasn't supposed to happen.

"no— sweetheart, i'm so sorry. dad's got you– hey… i've got you." he says, cradling you and cupping your face gently as dark tears begin to trail across his cheek.

jake watches in a building grief at the sight of you and your father, tears of his own falling from his eyes when your body fully goes limp.

"this is your fault— you're a sick excuse for a father!" jake shouts, attempting to lunge at hades with his trident but the god simply pushes jake away with a dark force.

"i'm sorry, sweetheart." hades says once more as his tears drip into your body.

he places his hand over your wound and his palm glows with shades of green and blue before a flash fills the room, causing jake to flinch away.

when jake opens his eyes again, he instantly goes back to your body, gasping when he sees the way your chest begins to rise and fall once again. jake couldn't believe it— you were alive.

your eyes flutter open and the pain in your body was long gone. you see the way your father is looking down at you with adoring and pained eyes, regret clear on his face now that he's realized no matter the outcome of today, whether if you died or lived— that he's already lost his daughter. the one person he's learned to love after being sentenced to eternity in the underworld. his blood and although you've turned your back on your father, and chosen a life on the overworld with the people he has so much hatred for, he could never hate you.

his sweetheart.

his daughter.

his pride.

"i'm sorry—" is all he says again before helping you onto your feet.

jake instantly runs over and pulls you away from your father, wrapping his arms around you like he wasn't completely convinced it was you— but it was. "you're okay— thank the gods you're okay…" jake whispers into your ear, pressing a kiss onto your forehead.

you look up at jake, smiling at him through wet eyes.

"you guys should go— before i change my mind." hades says, standing up and walking away. turning his back so that he doesn't have to see his daughter leave him behind.

jake grabs onto your hand and pulls the necklace of shells and gems out of his pocket, ready to use it to transport back home. "wait—" you stop him and he looks at you like you're about to do something he doesn't quite agree with. "just give me a second to say goodbye…" you pull away from jake's grasp and he lets you, watching carefully as you run after your father.

your arms wrap around your dad, catching him off guard.

you were hugging him.

"i'm sorry, dad… i'm sorry i couldn't be the daughter you wanted me to be but— this is who i am." you say with a sniffle and your dad has to fight off the growing tears in his eyes.

your father turns around and the two of you exchange glances, a silent conversation between a father and daughter through your eyes, a mutual agreement with no wonders said.

"go." he says before you part ways, returning to jake and taking his hand into yours.

"dad, if you try to come for me again— or jake or any of my friends. you'll see exactly what kind of daughter you've raised." was the last thing you ever said to your before you turn your gaze back to jake who's grinning at you with adoring eyes.

"let's go home." you say with a smile.

jake grabs the shell off of the necklace and smashes it into the ground and a cloudy mist surrounds the two of you before crashing into the ground in a small wave, leaving nothing but a puddle in the place of where the two of you were previously standing.

hades watches all of it from a distance and when you and jake disappear, he smiles.

"that's my girl." he says to himself with a nod and a prideful smile.

notes from olympus: -when jake and yn reappeared, nicholas was in the middle of a lecture with the shell in his backpack so when they got back his bag filled with water and revealed yn and jake when the water disappeared. everyone was shocked and confused -jake and yn got questioned by the dean for 3 days straight after all of it -yn integrated into their community very easily with limited people still being rude about her being hades' daughter, to which she'd threaten them jokingly and say she'll have her dad come after them, they didn't know she was joking though -jungwon and riki made a bet that jake would die in the process, riki won the bet because he said jake has too much 'aura' to die and his prize was jungwon doing his homework for a week but riki got low grades on them because jungwon never specified he'd do his homework correctly -jake and yn spent a lot of time recovering together for the next few weeks, they never really leave each other's side now unless it's to sleep at their own dorms but even then, they sneak each other in -hades watches over his daughter and smiles whenever shes acts in ways that reminds him of himself

a lesson he's learned since he got to the campus.

setting your pride aside brings you clarity.

and it certainly did here.

the necklace glows— brighter this time. illuminating the walls of the cavern and providing a guiding light that reveals something that proves jake's theory.

he wasn't falling.

he was before— but now he isn't and he hasn't been falling for a while.

when he looks up he can see the sky quite clearly— not too far from where he was now.

an illusion and "science—" someone says to jake's right, somewhere in the darkness that the light of his necklace doesn't reach. he extends his arm in that direction and out of the dark comes walking, "daedalus.." jake whispers.

"indeed, son of poseidon." he says, hands folded in front of him. his long and dark frock hanging from his shoulders as he observes jake.

"to what do i owe the pleasure of being visited by the son of one of the supreme gods." daedalus adds, taking a few steps closer to jake, watching as he remains floating in the air.

jake looks down and it's even more obvious now.

daedalus, a craftsman and architect, incredibly smart and known as inventor of scientific illusions. there's a contraption below jake that's constantly blowing air into a steady stream upwards, creating the illusion that if one were to be placed right above it, the air would flow up and around them— that paired with the darkness and the idea that jake's jumped off a cliff, one would be believe they were falling forever.

except he isn't.

"i wasn't really expecting anyone down here— say can you let me down? i'm getting a little tired of whatever this is." jake says flatly, like he couldn't be bothered to care any longer of the predicament he's found himself in because of some man and his inventions.

"insolent brat.." daedalus mutters before he snaps his fingers and the contraption immediately shuts off, causing jake to fall from the height that he's been levitating at, but he's quick to catch himself and landing on his feet instead of flat on his face like daedalus slightly hoped for.

"so? what brings you down here?" daedalus asks again, snapping his fingers to reactivate the machine.

"the underworld— i figured the entrance was down here. where is it?" jake simply puts, dusting off his clothes and adjusting his backpack. eyes following daedalus as he walks around the cave. jake looks up again towards the sky, the fall really wasn't that far down but from above looking below it looks like the drop is everlasting.

"how do you do that by the way?" jake says, pointing upward with his eyebrow quirked slightly.

daedalus chuckles to himself, a bit surprised at jake's curiosity— "nothing your brain would understand. as for the entrance to the underworld—" daedalus begins but jake cuts him off.

"try me— it's probably just basic depth perception. using contrast, directional light, and shadows? it's not the complicated nor is it that hard to understand. just because i'm half human doesn't mean i'm not smart. you're human aren't you? you think since you got some praise by the gods you're above humans?

last time i checked… you're mortal. just cursed to live out your days down here making inventions nobody really cares about anymore—"

"shut your mouth child!" daedalus cuts him off.

jake's struck a nerve. he chuckles at the man's reaction— "look i get it. you just wanna be praised for your inventions again. maybe even praised at all— so help me. show me where the entrance to the underworld is and i'll put in a good word with my dad." jake adds.

"you'd do that son of poseidon?" daedalus asks, face softening at the unexpected kindness.

"i'll do what i can." is all jake says.

for a moment the two are staring at one another. a silence that's filled with hollow wind that wafts occasionally down in the pit. "i can't show you where the entrance is…" daedalus says and jake sighs in frustration. "what do you mean? it has not be somewhere?" he says, walking over to daedalus with haste.

"it's not a where— it's a who."

jake furrows his brows at the man's explanation, completely unsure of what that entails.

── .✦ jake and daedalus walk for some time. jake telling him of his journey to save hades' daughter.

"her name's yn— not hades' daughter. please refer to her properly." jake says whenever daedalus would talk about you. the older man would clear his throat and apologize quietly before referring to you by name instead of who your father was. jake didn't care if he was referred to as 'son of poseidon' or 'poseidon's son' it didn't bother him one bit.

but you being referred to as 'hades' daughter' or 'the daughter of hades' rubbed him the wrong way. especially after knowing how it's made you feel when you found out about it back at the academy and how it's probably been the bane of you existence without you even recalling any memories of it.

"we're here." daedalus announces.

jake looks at him with a confused look on his face, "we're here? are you sure, we're in the middle of a tunnel." he responds, pointing out the obvious. there wasn't a door or an entrance, there wasn't even a 'who' that daedalus referred to earlier without further explanation.

"this is as far as i can go— just continue down the tunnel and you'll meet them." daedalus says, directing jake's gaze towards the rest of the tunnel.

"them? who is them?" jake asks, turning back to the man but suddenly he's gone. nothing left behind besides a chill on jake's spine despite the stale air. he swallows the lump in his throat before he continues down the tunnel, footsteps heavy as they scuff against the dirty cave floor, hand still tightly wrapped around the necklace his father gave him.

he can't telling himself that he could feel you getting closer and closer— it was more of a reassurance for himself at that point.

as jake continued walking, he could see two orbs of light dancing around at the end of the tunnel. no entrance, no grand gesture or terrifying aura that said "entrance to the underworld"— just a dead end with two orbs of light floating in the air in a rhythmic pattern. he walked closer to the orbs— slowly, but as he got closer he could hear tiny and faint whispers coming from them.

"he– hello?" he muttered softly and suddenly the orbs stop moving altogether.

they're levitating steadily in place right in front of jake like he's a deer caught in headlights.

"i'm jake, son of— poseidon" the two orbs finish his sentence for him. "we know." they add in unison.

"okay… i'm looking for the entrance to— the underworld." they finish his sentence again.

"we know." again, in unison.

"alright… do you guys know— everything." again, finishing his sentence.

"we do." in unison.

jake sighs, a bit frustrated.

"so where is it? how do i get to the underworld?" jake blurts out, trying to get his sentence out faster than they could finish it for him. the two orbs don't respond or react right away, just continue to float in front of him. when jake opens his mouth to ask again, the orbs begin to dance like they did before only this time he can hear their whispers a lot louder. still hushed but loud enough.

"okay, son of poseidon. we'll help you get to the underworld— under one condition." they said again in unison.

"anything— i'll do anything!" jake responds. he knows saying he'll do anything is a dangerous scale to wage with but thankfully what the orbs say next doesn't lead to anything destructive like one may think.

"here are two doors." the orb on the left says and a bright flash appears and disappears just as quick. there's now two doors on the dead end behind them with each orb floating in front of each one.

"one leads to the underworld—" the left orb adds.

"while the other will lead to your death." the orb on the right says.

"the only way to figure out which door leads to the underworld, you'll need to ask us one question. and only one of us will answer." they say in unison.

"i will always tell the truth." the right orb says.

"and i will always a lie." the left orb continues.

"you cannot ask us which door is which—

so, son of poseidon, what is your question and who are you asking?" they say, once again in perfect unison.

jake huffs, dropping to the floor in a seated position to ponder. jake wasn't the most intelligent guy around but he also wasn't dull in the slightest. his mind worked in ways that a lot of his peers didn't understand— not because he was a genius but because he had a level of emotional intelligence that many lacked.

he played several scenarios in his head.

there was a long list of questions jake could ask but because he could only ask one question to one of them, he had to make sure the question he chose is the correct one. asking them which door is which is simply too easy, he could ask the orb of truth which door is the one he's looking for and the orb would tell him— it makes sense as to why their conditions are quite specific.

some time passes when jake finally decides on his question. he raises his head and stands up from the ground, tightening his backpack around his shoulders as he puts the necklace safely into his pocket.

"you—" he starts, looking at the orb of lies.

"if i were to ask your sister what door leads to the underworld— what door will she point to?" jake asks.

the orb of lies begins to dance in the air. trails of light following along as it moves in spirals and configured formations before it eventually comes to a halt right in front of the door on the left.

jake sighs as he looks at the two orbs who are now both floating in front of one door.

he chuckles to himself with a small grin before he says, "thank you." and walks towards the door on the right. his hand wraps around the doorknob tightly, turning it in one slow motion— hesitating to push it open because of the tiniest sliver of doubt in his mind.

"for yn.." he whispers to himself, shutting his eyes and taking a deep breath before he bravely pushes through the door on the right and is met with a vast land dark structures made of bones, dark misty blue and swamp green filters in the air, and the smell of souls wreak across the land.

"congratulations son of poseidon. you've chosen the correct door— good luck on the rest of your journey." both orbs say together before they fade into the darkness, the door behind him slowly shuts and disappears into nothing— leaving jake standing in the middle of the underworld.

"just hold on a bit longer, yn— i'm coming." he says, cracking his neck and making his way through the underworld; a giant castle in the distance with dark clouds swirling above as his next target.

── .✦ you've let out an irritated groan for the 10th time in the last 5 minutes.

your father— who is still quite disappointed in your rebellious behavior against his demands— has decided that in order for you to learn your lesson and to get you to obey him again, he'd treat you like one of the unfortunate souls trapped in his underworld.

he chained you to your room, a shackle made of bones from the souls who once wrapped themselves around flesh and said bone. it was around your ankle and it was long enough to allow for you to wander around your room but it stopped just a few feet shy of the door. something that's just an arm's reach away— so close yet so far. taunting you in the worst way possible and calling out to you like a song.

your father was cruel in a million different ways— he's tortured people for a lot less than he wants from you and yet you're treated the same way. sure, less painful and it's all because you're his daughter, but not in the way he'll let you off so easily. showing you that at the end of the day, he's your father and he's the one in charge.

a light scuffling sound followed by hushed groans cause you to look towards the window in the far side of your room. it's the one place that you can reach that is close to being outside of your room but the chain around your ankle still holds you back from even thinking of jumping out of the window as a means of escape. you cautiously made your way to the window, the chain on your ankle rolls across the floor with each step that you take, the sounds coming from outside getting closer— worry in your head on what it could be. given your track record with beasts coming after you, you were afraid it was another beast but you figured that your father was likely the reason behind them in the past, meaning this couldn't be a beast but instead it was—

"jake?" you gasp, a little too loud causing you to slap your hand over your mouth in shock.

jake smiles at you from below, his hands are tightly gripping the veins along the walls of the castle to get to you like he was a prince saving you— a princess– from captivity.

"hey yn. miss me?" he asks, grin growing wider when he finally sees you again after what felt like forever since you had gone missing. he continues to climb higher until he's reached the windowsill— he groans as he reaches forward and pulls himself up with your help. his feet lands steadily inside of your room and he doesn't even give you anytime to ask another question or for him to catch his breath before he's gently grabbing your arm and pulling you into a long awaited embrace.

"i'm so glad you're okay— i was so worried… everyone was." he says into your hair, rubbing your back gently and when he feels your arms wrap around his body, you can feel the way his body relaxes against your touch. "i'm sorry i took so long, but i'm here now. i came to bring you back…" jake adds after he pulls away, hands cupping your face so he could get a good look at you.

you're still beautiful as ever despite the way you've got bags under your eyes and worry on your skin. he didn't care— you're the most beautiful girl he's ever laid his eyes on. in this life time and any other life time after. "jake…" you breathe out, one of your hands leaves his waist, placing it over his as you rub your thumb over his knuckles. you can feel the roughness of his skin, the way there's patches of dirt that trail from his pants to his the height of his cheek. his dry lips and dull skin that had a thin layer of sweat— but despite it all, he's still got that look in his eyes like nothing matters besides the person he's got his eyes on.

"how are you here right now? you can't be here… i–" you had a million and one questions for him but he just shook his head before pulling you into another reassuring hug. "don't worry about that, i'm here now and that's all that matters. we've got to go— i'll answer every question you have but right now we need to go back to the academy where you're safe."

he reaches for your ankle and gets to work on freeing you from your restraints. he's in the middle of explaining how the two of you will get home, a shell on his father's necklace that when smashed, would transport him and anyone he's touching to the location of the other shell— the one that nicholas found back in jake's dorm but suddenly the castle begins to rumble.

the walls and the floor shifts in geographic shapes and angles and the room changes from the place you grew up in to the center of the castle, the heart, the throne room— where your father sits at the top on his throne made of bones and drowned souls, staring down at you and jake with venom in his eyes. "well, well, well— if it isn't my daughter's little fish friend." hades says, chuckling to himself at his attempt at a joke.

jake clenches his jaw at the sight of your father, feeling himself already walking forward but you're quick to hold onto his arm, pulling him and silently begging him to stay with your eyes. jake instantly softens at your gaze— choosing to stand at your side rather than to brave the presence of your father by sizing him up. "daughter— i told you he was coming. would i ever lie to you?" he says, a sinister grin on his face as he tilts his head, averting his gaze towards you.

you shake your head at him in disbelief, hands tightening around jake's bicep. he turns to look at you, confused at your father's statement— "what does he mean by that?" jake whispers and you explain everything to him. that your father knew jake was coming to save you, that he was watching jake throughout his whole journey to the underworld, that he even found it amusing and somewhat impressive that jake was able to get passed several obstacles with an ease only expected from a child of a supreme god.

"aren't you forgetting something, daughter?" your father adds when you finish.

you glare at him, shaking your head in an attempt to stop him from saying anything else, but it doesn't work.

"son of poseidon— have you ever wondered why my daughter showed up at your little academy out of nowhere? what her purpose must've been? i can assure you it wasn't to get an education like the rest of you. unlike my daughter she has everything she needs to learn with me but i decided that she was finally ready for something much bigger than she ever expected.

it's no wonder she almost failed but it's alright. it worked out in the end." your dad says with an amused tone like he was trying to stop himself from laughing.

"jake— don't listen to him.." you say through gritted teeth. jake didn't know what any of it meant but it wasn't going to change the fact that he came all this way with one thing on his mind. you. he was going to bring you back safely no matter what hades did to try and stop the two of you. whatever hades said— he didn't care.

"aww, young love. how… gross." your father says before standing from his throne abruptly, causing you and jake to back up slightly.

"son of poseidon— jake? was it? i'll tell you exactly what you're thinking of right now, how none of this really makes sense to you. my daughter was tasked to find the hidden academy of olympus, infiltrate and take the life of a child of a supreme god.

you.

it was just an unfortunate case that she lost her memory in the progress but— they're back now. thankfully because you're so head over heels for my daughter i didn't have to worry about that any longer knowing you'll come after her anyway.

thanks for saving me the trouble."

he says the last part with a lower tone. much deeper— darker with hooded eyes as a chilling breeze passes through the room.

"jake— i'm sorry please don't believe him. i would never do anything to kill you, please, you have to believe me." you say, gripping onto his sleeve and begging that he'll believe you. jake turns around, towering over you as he blocks your vision of your father.

hades can no longer see you with jake standing in front of you, all he can see is jake's back and the way he pulls you into a hug before turning back around to reveal you with tears in your eyes. one that hades tries to tell himself that it doesn't bother him the slightest to see his daughter cry. you're no longer holding onto jake as he steps forward, posture tall and confident despite all of the information he's just learned. that the girl he's fallen in love with was originally instructed to kill him by her father. the same father who has betrayed his own father time and time again.

maybe the apple truly doesn't fall far from the tree.

but maybe, if your father was the tree and you were the apple, you fell off his branches and rolled in a direction opposite of where he's rooted himself into the ground.

"yn, go!" jake shouts and suddenly you're running off into the darkness and jake is using his gift to fill the room with mist, obstructing hades' vision. the god simply laughs at the attempt to hinder him, "you both want to play games? so be it— but don't cry when you've lost." his voice echoes through the room. jake follows the way his eyes leave dark trails in the mist but suddenly disappear without warning.

jake's head is on a swivel, guarding every side of his body to make sure hades can't sneak up on him and when he feels a presence behind him, he's quick to unlatch the golden band across his wrist— one that he got from his father when he was claimed— a trident unfolds and he swings the weapon towards his back and blocks an attack from hades who just attempted to slam jake body first into the ground.

hades' laugh echoes through the room, leaving jake to cautiously watch his surroundings again, weapon swinging in different directions when he gets an inkling that hades made me come from that way.

"enough of this." hades says and a loud clap cuts through the air and the foggy mist jake created for cover suddenly dissolves, leaving jake and your father standing in the middle of the room, facing each other. your dad is much bigger than jake, easily casting a shadow of him— but it doesn't scare jake in the slightest. he grits his teeth and plants his feet sturdier into the ground, bracing himself for any form of attack.

"you're brave, poseidon's son, i'll give you that." your father says as he unsheathes a blade from thin air. the blade is black, devoid of any light and instead of reflecting the light in the room— it absorbs it.

"i'll be sure to leave your body at your father's doorstep when i get out of here." hades says.

jake knew he was no match for the god— but he didn't care. anything for you, like he has said so many other times. he was going to do everything he could to keep you safe and if that meant fighting off your father, a supreme god, then he'll do that.

death didn't scare him— losing you did.

"father– no!" you shouted and it makes both jake and hades turn their heads towards the direction of your voice, but nothing. there's only the shadows that reside in the castle when they look at where your voice came from.

"please! don't do this!" you beg, this time from a different side of the room— still unseen.

your father things you've just gotten better at using your gift of manipulating the shadows and darkness— and you have, that just wasn't the case. hades' eyes bounce around the room as he tries to figure out where your voice is coming from, all the while jake's got his eyes glued on your father's figure, waiting for the right time to strike— knowing that the plan the two of you had set up was working.

just moments before, when jake pulled you into an embrace and covered you from your father's gaze, he whispered something in your ear.

"when i give you the signal, i want you to run towards your father's throne and grab his helm. it'll grant you invisibility and i want you to put it on— use it to hide from your dad until we can escape. i'm not mad at you— i promise." he says, pressing a kiss onto your temple before he parts, not giving you time to respond.

that's exactly what you were doing now.

jake expected you to just hide, to let him handle this until it's over, but of course; you are the daughter of hades, therefore you weren't going to just stand by. you were stronger than that and jake admired that about you.

jake charges towards hades, trident aimed at your father as he roared but your father was faster, stronger, smarter; he easily avoids jake's attack and uses his sheer strength to block jake and his him across the ribs— sending jake across the room and crashing into a pillar.

"nice try, kid." he scoffs.

you watch from the shadows, helm still of your head as your father stalks over to jake.

sword still in his head as he drags the tip of it across the ground, a shrieking sound from the way it scrapes against the pavement makes your skin crawl. it all happens so fast, so sudden— in a blink of an eye, your father goes from being several feet away to right in front of jake, grabbing him by the throat and dragging him up into the air against the pillar.

hades laughs at jake's weak attempts at fighting him off— all being useless.

you had to do something or else jake was going to meet an untimely end. without a second thought, you dash forward, footsteps quick and light to avoid being detected by your father but it was no use, he could sense you running at him so he stretches his hand outwards just as you come close enough, hand also wrapping around your neck. he shakes your body and when the helm falls off of your crown, you're finally revealed and no longer invisible.

"there's my lovely daughter.." your dad says, no amusement in his voice— just disappointment.

"i thought i raised you to be a better warrior but i guess i wasn't harsh enough on you." he says before tossing you aside, your body crashing into the ground and rolling around the floor with a rough thud. you cough out in pain at the impact, eyes wet from anger as you see jake still struggling to breath.

"dad— please! let him go— i'll do anything, please!" you pleading doesn't work.

hades knows better than to wage with his daughter who could easily turn her back like she hasn't done that already. he's already got the son of poseidon in his hands, he wasn't going to let him slip away just because you were begging.

"you and this boy can find each other again in another life—" your father says, turning his head back to jake before dropping him to the ground. jake gasps heavily for air, hand reaching for his neck to soothe the pain from hades' grasp.

you watch as the blade reappears in your father's grasp, raising it over jake's body.

hades doesn't see the way you've found your footing again and he certainly doesn't see the way you run in front of the blade just as he slashes at what he thinks is jake, except the blade goes through something else— someone else.

small whimpers and a pained groan can be heard before the helm falls off your head again.

you had ran for the helm and put it back on before running in front of the blade to stop jake from getting hurt. neither hades or jake saw that coming— you looked at your father with glassy eyes as blood at your stomach where the blade pierced your body. hades' eyes widen in shock when he realizes what he's done, blade instantly dissolving into the darkness and your body falls into your father's arms.

"no… n— no!!" hades shouts when he sees you laying in his arms, bleeding out because of him.

jake shuffles to his feet, stumbling in the process as he's too focused on you.

"i'm so– sorry.. dad." you mutter, wincing in pain.

hades shakes his head in shock. this isn't how it was supposed to go— hades told you that he needed two children of a supreme god to free him. your father loved you, he was never going to use you as a sacrifice, he was hoping that after you had brought one of the supreme god's kids as a sacrifice, then one or more would come after him, giving him another demigod to sacrifice instead of his own daughter.

he was never going to actually use you the way he said he would— he was just saying that to mask his true intentions, knowing that losing more of your friends would only anger you further.

but this— this wasn't supposed to happen.

"no— sweetheart, i'm so sorry. dad's got you– hey… i've got you." he says, cradling you and cupping your face gently as dark tears begin to trail across his cheek.

jake watches in a building grief at the sight of you and your father, tears of his own falling from his eyes when your body fully goes limp.

"this is your fault— you're a sick excuse for a father!" jake shouts, attempting to lunge at hades with his trident but the god simply pushes jake away with a dark force.

"i'm sorry, sweetheart." hades says once more as his tears drip into your body.

he places his hand over your wound and his palm glows with shades of green and blue before a flash fills the room, causing jake to flinch away.

when jake opens his eyes again, he instantly goes back to your body, gasping when he sees the way your chest begins to rise and fall once again. jake couldn't believe it— you were alive.

your eyes flutter open and the pain in your body was long gone. you see the way your father is looking down at you with adoring and pained eyes, regret clear on his face now that he's realized no matter the outcome of today, whether if you died or lived— that he's already lost his daughter. the one person he's learned to love after being sentenced to eternity in the underworld. his blood and although you've turned your back on your father, and chosen a life on the overworld with the people he has so much hatred for, he could never hate you.

his sweetheart.

his daughter.

his pride.

"i'm sorry—" is all he says again before helping you onto your feet.

jake instantly runs over and pulls you away from your father, wrapping his arms around you like he wasn't completely convinced it was you— but it was. "you're okay— thank the gods you're okay…" jake whispers into your ear, pressing a kiss onto your forehead.

you look up at jake, smiling at him through wet eyes.

"you guys should go— before i change my mind." hades says, standing up and walking away. turning his back so that he doesn't have to see his daughter leave him behind.

jake grabs onto your hand and pulls the necklace of shells and gems out of his pocket, ready to use it to transport back home. "wait—" you stop him and he looks at you like you're about to do something he doesn't quite agree with. "just give me a second to say goodbye…" you pull away from jake's grasp and he lets you, watching carefully as you run after your father.

your arms wrap around your dad, catching him off guard.

you were hugging him.

"i'm sorry, dad… i'm sorry i couldn't be the daughter you wanted me to be but— this is who i am." you say with a sniffle and your dad has to fight off the growing tears in his eyes.

your father turns around and the two of you exchange glances, a silent conversation between a father and daughter through your eyes, a mutual agreement with no wonders said.

"go." he says before you part ways, returning to jake and taking his hand into yours.

"dad, if you try to come for me again— or jake or any of my friends. you'll see exactly what kind of daughter you've raised." was the last thing you ever said to your before you turn your gaze back to jake who's grinning at you with adoring eyes.

"let's go home." you say with a smile.

jake grabs the shell off of the necklace and smashes it into the ground and a cloudy mist surrounds the two of you before crashing into the ground in a small wave, leaving nothing but a puddle in the place of where the two of you were previously standing.

hades watches all of it from a distance and when you and jake disappear, he smiles.

"that's my girl." he says to himself with a nod and a prideful smile.

notes from olympus: -when jake and yn reappeared, nicholas was in the middle of a lecture with the shell in his backpack so when they got back his bag filled with water and revealed yn and jake when the water disappeared. everyone was shocked and confused -jake and yn got questioned by the dean for 3 days straight after all of it -yn integrated into their community very easily with limited people still being rude about her being hades' daughter, to which she'd threaten them jokingly and say she'll have her dad come after them, they didn't know she was joking though -jungwon and riki made a bet that jake would die in the process, riki won the bet because he said jake has too much 'aura' to die and his prize was jungwon doing his homework for a week but riki got low grades on them because jungwon never specified he'd do his homework correctly -jake and yn spent a lot of time recovering together for the next few weeks, they never really leave each other's side now unless it's to sleep at their own dorms but even then, they sneak each other in -hades watches over his daughter and smiles whenever shes acts in ways that reminds him of himself
