i think people really under sell the physical side effects of mental health disorders sometimes. like sure the depression and anxiety may be 'just in your head' but when what's in your head happens to disrupts your sleep schedule and prevent you from going outside regularly and eating consistent meals and exercising and generally taking care of your body. well it sure takes its toll huh.

dehumanization as horror is great and all but what about humanization as horror. Being forced into a role that was not made for you. Being forced to fulfill expectations that you can never achieve. Being made to exist in a society that so cruelly expects you to act in a way that is against your nature.

honestly I hate “can you pet the dog?!?” not for any of the common reasons but because it was initially interesting as a proposition of “can you interact with the world in a way that is not within the primary mechanical loop” and that very quickly fell away to being “well now any indie developer making a game has to have a pet the dog button or they’re going to get letters”

One of my dream projects has an NPC with a dog, and if you try to pet it, the owner tells you not to do that. If you try again, it bites you and you take damage. I want to do this entirely because I genuinely believe that this would make me feel way more grounded in the world than any “click button to see cute animation” would ever do, and also it would be really funny to have a game where people lose their runs because they tried to pet a dog they were told not to pet

an annoying thing I've noticed is that headcanoning for some people is taking the most plausible interpretation of the text and for others it's making stuff up about characters just for fun without bothering about how canon it is. and both camps of people get mad at each other for "doing it wrong" when neither are doing it wrong, they're just different approaches

The flow meter in karate man GBA sucked but it is such an interesting way to have what is basically a body hardening mechanic in game. Like if you hit enough stuff the knuckles harden enough to be able to hit the rock (the idea behind bone hardening basically being to get so many fractures that they heal back stronger). It’s such a small thing but I love this detail
