MORFYDD CLARK at The World Premiere of "The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power" August 30, 2022 in London, England.
Galadriel shoving Attic Ghoul Sauron back into the mind palace attic box. Posting this separately because it took me days to get up the energy and motivation to start on it and who knows if I will ever art again so I wanna display itβ¨
Quick doodles!! I saw this photo of Charlie Vickers and knew what I had to do π
Galadriel's dress β¨
So they planned for haladriel to meet earlier. Yeah i truly now believe the Elrond kiss being Sauron in disguise. Even the way he interacted with Glug and carried himself in the camp.
Not these writers having good ideas but not knowing how to follow through.
We lost so much.
'Rings of Power' showrunners Patrcik McKay and J.D. Payne share whether there were ever any plans for an earlier Haladriel scene in Season 2

Sauron was meant to go to Adar's Camp

The decision to keep them apart all season really didnt make sense in the story. You could tell they were forcing it. Like when she is in eregion and Sauron who never even lets Brimby out of his sight even for a bathroom break disappears conveniently for like 10 minutes while Brimby and Galadriel have a heart to heart.
This works in star wars because its a movie. Rop is a tv show you cant do that for 8hrs my god.

"Her time with Halbrand was a time where she was very much herself in some ways because she was an Elf alone. She wasn't following the rules of her people at that point. So, he knows a part of her that other people, other beings, don't, and there's a tragedy to losing that, and through losing him, she's also lost that part of herself. " --Morfydd Clark
I thought we were done with LA press day bounties and the latest drop brought the most devastating line yet. π I could go on and on about this aspect of Galadriel's characterization and in particular what being around Halbrand/Sauron brings out of her compared to how she acts when she's back in the 'nest' as it were. I don't know if it's intentional or not but something about the way they've written Galadriel reintegrating back into her community just felt subtly stifling and like that'd be one thing if the writers were self-aware about it but I got the impression it's meant to be this 100% good/wholesome thing about maturation and growth. I think this is the first time someone from the show has spoken of it differently, because there is a Loss there too. A pretty profound one.
Yes she had reasons to feel guilty and that would mean a humbled Galadriel in season 2, but I couldn't help but also notice the way she holds herself, bites her tongue, struggles to contain her anger and pain, are all pretty similar to how she acted around the elves in season 1 before she was exiled. And we subsequently saw her really sparking and expressing everything she felt after jumping off that ship, meeting Halbrand, causing a ruckus on Numenor, etc etc. (With Habrand especially, I think the way I described it once when watching s1, the reason the dynamic really grabbed me and what I saw as Galadriel coming alive, is that he spoke to her like she was just a woman, the real flesh and blood person in between the black sheep of the elves or the untouchable Lady of Light. It's no wonder he got her to bare her soul in that forge.) I reject the idea that all of that was just this flawed part of her she needs to erase from her character to become the true Galadriel. Character growth should temper her more impulsive and reckless traits but not figuratively lobotomize her.
This just made me sad about Galadriel because you can tell in season 2 her character is so muted and she even says to Adar that everything is now a dull grey. And when in episode 208 she wakes up after her fall, Gilgalad makes that joke about how its the longest she has been quiet or something like that.
I've always been a bit iffy about the way they talk to Galadriel on the show and it makes it worse because the show is lowkey a sausage fest so all her closest people are men constantly talking down to her and its like they dont like that she's different and think everything will be fine if she just listened and do what she is told.
She has to present herself in a certain way for them to accept her. Shes right about everything in season 1 but they dont listen and even Elrond betrays and its like none of them apologise. I'm not sure if the writers are trying to make a commentary on this or they just stumbled into it writing wise.
Even in the LOTRs when she first met Frodo i thought she was evil or something when I first watched it because she was kind of mean to Frodo and it seemed to contradict her lady of light persona.
Since Galadriel is my favourite character this is part of the reason why season 1 is my favourite season. She just had so much spark that is missing in season 2. It felt like they purposefully dimmed her light. I want to say its because Galadriel was grieving in season 2 but its obvious its because of the backlash her character got.
I hate that certain a demographic discovered the term "woke" cause now we cant have nuanced female characters or poc lest #they get upset and everyone seems to want to cater to #them.
I'm really glad Miv touched on the fact that a part of Galadriel is lost, it really played on screen like that. I love that her and Charlie have a really good read on their characters.
This ship will be the death of me.
