YOU are consuming media. I’m letting it consume me
honey nut cheerio, emphasis on the honey and the nut
I'm only coming on here because someone sent me a message and I'd just like to say that it's 9/21/2020 and I haven't logged into tumblr in over a year and will never log in again. It was fun while it lasted. Bye yall ✌🏼
One day you guys are gonna learn to stop leaving shit like this in my inbox. You will get your ass blocked like Sarah over here.
Hawai'i is in the middle of a housing CRISIS. It literally does NOT matter what your intentions are, if you move here you are DIRECTLY taking part in the displacement and houselessness of Natives.
Hawaiians are not the ignorant savages of your white savior dreams. We wouldn't need your "help" or charity if you didn't continuously move here and fuck us over. I don't care how many times your mother told you otherwise but you are NOT SPECIAL, you have nothing to offer Hawaiians that we don't already have.
Kānaka Maoli are a smart, beautiful, powerful, and resilient people. We did not need people like you in 1778 and we do not need you now. @telltaleharto
I'm only coming on here to tell you guys that I finally got my drivers license. Another win for the gays

Anyway FREE HAWAI'I, FREE PUERTO RICO, FREE GUAM, FREE SAMOA, FREE OKINAWA, FREE WEST PAPUA, and FREE PALESTINE
Can I ask how best to help Hawaiians in my city? I’m not trying to be condescending, I just have no clue where to start.
Thank you for actually caring about us even without feeling like you need to visit here first. Research and learn about Hawaiians, our culture and our history, to inform those around you. There's a lot of misconceptions about how Hawai'i became a state and we need allies to help us tell the truth. Call out appropriation of our culture and uplift our voices. Help fight climate change, this isn't specific to Hawaiians, but most island people will be some of the first affected by severe weather storms and rising ocean levels. Donate to Hawaiians and Hawaiians causes. One urgent one is the fund for treating the rapid death of 'ōhi'a trees, a native plant that has been infected by a fungal disease and is dying all over Hawai'i island at an alarming rate. To donate please follow this link: https://giving.uhfoundation.org/funds/12754704

I have a question. I want to visit Hawaii. Is there any way for me to visit Hawaii and help the local people as opposed to just to feeding the tourism industry?
No and I'm not a champion of voluntourism. Most local businesses are not owned by natives, but still try to buy local. Also tip everyone well, especially the brown people. Visit outdoor attractions like hikes and beaches, and always clean up after yourself.

i saw your post re: colonization in hawaii, but i’m curious about your feelings on non-white non-native plantation workers and people descended from them? can you talk more about that? obviously they are a symptom of colonialism but (to my limited understanding) they’re not necessarily privileged in the same way and have a unique culture with a creole language, cuisine, etc? i see academics saying that this population makes racism operate differently in hawaii but none of them are native so.
Non-white, non-native people in Hawai'i are still settlers here and benefit off our oppression. If Hawai'i wasn't colonized they wouldn't have been able to move here, and a lot of that population had a hand in making us a state. The population of Hawaiians was decimated by the time of the overthrow and annexation. It was plantation settlers that voted to make Hawai'i a state alongside white elites because they benefitred from being US citizens, despite what that mean to natives. East Asians monopolize the work life by holding high end positions, businesses, and government positions alongside whites, while keeping Hawaiians out and holding most of the wealth. It's become increasingly hard to live in Hawai'i due to costs, most natives are some of the poorest, least educated, and most incarcerated people in Hawai'i despite being only 20-30% of the population at the hand of the settlers. As for our creole language it is heavily based in the Hawaiian language ('ōlelo Hawai'i) and English, with influences from Japanese, Chinese, and Filipino words. Settlers in Hawai'i often appropriate Hawaiian culture because they view their proximity as ownership, by calling our traditions "Hawai'i/pidgin culture" they get to appropriate and not accept responsibility for it. While denying their role in our history, most settlers don't fight for Native rights because the betterment of Hawaiians comes at a cost to their privileges and wealth on our land.
