clea doesn’t laugh — doesn’t have the breath for it — but her mouth curves just enough to betray the grin she’s holding back.  she glances sideways at him,  her expression caught somewhere between fondness  &  exasperation,  like she’s cataloging this moment to throw back at him later when they’re not bleeding  &  limping through hell. 

somebody with an ego might've gotten bruised from that hit, but scott's just thankful that one of them knows what the hell they're doing. no pride to swallow, here : he's happy to shut up while she fields this. just smile and nod like a clueless intern that doesn't know his ass from his elbow. the clueless part is an easy sell. effortless, really. his only verbal contribution is a sheepish apology, and then the coast is clear. or the immediate shoreline, anyway.
