This is easily one of the CRAZIEST videos I've ever gotten. I was rafting down a river when a Yellow Jacket came, landed on my bright pink waterproof phone pouch, and started drinking from the water droplets that had gathered there.

The most amazing part is how the water droplet magnifies the Hornet's mouth parts, so you get to see them up-close!!!! It was FASCINATING to witness!

Hey do you know what rumination is?

Rumination is probably the most common type of OCD compulsion, but I rarely see anyone talking about it. I've talked to multiple people diagnosed with OCD who didn't even recognize it as a compulsion.

Basically, if you have OCD you have terrible intrusive thoughts. They can be about anything, but common themes are fear of being a bad person, fear of hurting someone, fear of contamination. etc.

Rumination is when you get stuck in a spiral. Rumination is when you spend hours catastrophizing, overthinking, analyzing, telling yourself it's going to be okay.

I'll say it again:

Rumination is a compulsion.

Rumination is a compulsion, and that means you have to stop doing it.

I did ERP (exposure response prevention) for my OCD with a therapist! For 9 months! And it did help, but the idea didn't really click until I found this website a couple years later.

And Oh My God. It made things make so much more sense, and I was able to pull myself out of an episode even though I wasn't in therapy or on meds at the time.

Genuinely if you have OCD, or even if you suspect you have OCD, I'm begging you to read some of these articles.

Like this was genuinely life changing for me.

Yeah, this seems helpful. I have OCD that was pretty severe when I was younger, and thankfully hasn’t escalated to the same point since getting on medication and generally gaining more emotional maturity, but I do still have issues at times stressing myself out overthinking words and ideas. I’ve kinda been left on my own to figure that out over the course of my adolescence, since it’s not as visible a manifestation as compulsive handwashing and refusing to touch stuff for seemingly no reason, and I’ve learned well that ruminating, even when it seems interesting and productive, is unhelpful in the long term. There’s a limit to which exploring and rationalizing your anxiety actually helps make you less anxious, beyond which I feel like you’re just legitimizing it, locking yourself into a system where you need that rationalization to protect against a fully imagined threat.

But yeah, if you can recognize when you’re ruminating and get yourself to stop, I think that’s definitely helpful. In my experience it doesn’t automatically make the anxiety go away, or necessarily allow you to engage with the provoking stimuli in a more healthy and calm way (if that’s something you want to do, which I do, because I don’t want to be stuck getting ragebaited by objectively fine and interesting things), but it helps being able to let go and do other things.

It’s a conservative commentary article fearmongering about the rise of socialism and communism, so they’re not even using the quote to make fun of Reagan—apparently they were listening to his old speeches, heard that quote, and decided “yes, that’s so real, I have to include this in my article criticizing socialism.”
