Tell us a bit about your band – how long have you been going, why you do what you do, what you want to achieve.

We formed in 2012, releasing a self-titled EP and followed that up a year later with a full length and now we are pleased to announce our sophomore album being released on Victory Records! Definitely something that we never thought we’d have the chance to do, a label that we all grew up listening to releases from are now releasing music that we have written, such a surreal feeling. We’ve always just been 5 guys that love playing live music and now we’ve been given the chance to do this on a bigger scale than we ever thought possible and we couldn’t be more thankful!

You have a new release coming out soon – without giving too much away tell us what listeners can expect from it?

It’s definitely a step up for us a band with this release. It’s the first release that collectively we are all 100% happy with how its turned out, that being from the writing process all the way through to the finished masters coming back. I think Sights & Sounds has a much more mature sound compared to the last 2 releases but still holds onto that ‘High Hopes’ style that we are known for. Heavy, yet incredibly melodic at the same time.

Plans for the next 12 months?

We want to tour like crazy over the next 12 months, playing places we’ve never had the opportunity to play. Meet new people, experience new cultures as well as playing some of our favourite places.

Tell us a bit about what it's like to experience your live show.

It’s full on, its sweaty, its hard hitting and relentless. No gimmicks or backing tracks, just 5 guys giving it 110% to put on the most entertaining and intense show they possibly can.

How does the band prepare for a gig?

Gig prep for me (Daryl) is pretty chilled, I just make sure I spend 15/20 minutes warming up on my practice pad and make sure I stretch and limber up before hitting the stage. The rest of the guys are similar with this, Nick will do vocal warm-ups and the other guys will do stretches to avoid any pulled muscles.

Name 3 bands you would love to tour with and why.

Counterparts - I think I say it for all of us when I say that for us they are some of the most creative writers in our genre/scene and great people too! Every album they release we always have on repeat during drives between shows in our van.

Slipknot - Probably the reason 99% of kids nowadays are in a band, it would literally be a dream come true for us to play with a band that got us into music in the first place.

Hatebreed - It would be an honour to be able to tour with a band that had such a huge influence on the hardcore scene when it originally began to surface. It would almost be a tutor session of how to hardcore.

Incarcerate - Incarcerate (Self-titled EP) Brings all the heavy and grooves.

How much has the internet and technology helped your band to get to the point it is today?

I think people underestimate the power of social media nowadays, it’s almost taken for granted. Yes it has its drawbacks (illegal downloads, over saturation) but it’s never been easier to get your music heard and get in touch with new people that are eager to listen to new music. We definitely wouldn't be where we are today without it!

Tell us a bit about your band – how long have you been going, why you do what you do, what you want to achieve?

We’ve been a band since 2013 when Lukas and Robert formed Alicewell. They invited Jonatan and Kim from Stockholm, to come and visit Eskilstuna. It was then that the first recordings of the EP “Wounds” started. About a year later, Danny joined the band for our first tour. We’re all playing in Alicewell because we’re really good friends that share our love for music together, and it really comes out in a very rewarding way. We want to keep expanding, evolve as a band and reach out to as many people around the world as possible. Our vision is to become a band that is iconic and remembered. It doesn’t matter if it is 100 people or 100’000, what matter to us are the impact and the footprint we leave behind.

An Arena-ready rock EP that contains melodic and explosive choruses. We’ve grown as both musicians and songwriters and it really shows in the songs. We believe that the lyrics are meaningful and we hope that many can relate to them.

To really take time for live shows and head out for a future tour to meet new and already existing fans.

Tell us a bit about what it's like to experience your live show.

We always try to deliver an explosive live show with a lot of movements. Even if we’ve performed on a really small stage, we do our best to share the energy we have, with the audience.  

How does the band prepare for a gig?

We try to rehears as often as we can before a gig. A lot of pep talk.  We always try to promote ourselves to as many as possible in the city where we’re performing.

Name 3 bands you would love to tour with and why.

That’s hard to say because there’s so many bands we like. If we have to decide three, we would say You Me At Six, Lower Than Atlantis and Deaf Havana. All three are great bands that we really look up to. We think they’re good musicians and that they’ve established a great connection with their fans.  

Name a band you'd love to give a shout out to and think people should listen to (not your own band)

We have some good friends in a band called Alive Again. They’re from the Netherlands and have some really catchy tunes.

How much has the internet and technology helped your band to get to the point it is today?

A lot! We’ve reached out to a lot of people around the world, which wouldn’t be possible 15 years ago. We’ve received new fans through social media and our very own guitarist Lukas makes the recordings.  Today it’s much easier to produce songs in a home studio than it used to be.

What's in your cd player right now?

What’s a cd player? Just kidding, if we were to dig up our Walkmans from the attic it would probably be Blink – 182, though.

Tell us a bit about your band – how long have you been going, why you do what you do, what you want to achieve? Never Hill, are a renamed band previously named The Oceans Above (TOA). The reason for the name change was down to ‘Oceans’ and ‘The’ as these are over used for band name and song titles, we needed something different and to set us apart from other band names.

TOA started in 2013 and were asked to play with up and coming Attention Thieves and Hopeless Records band Neck Deep, they were later asked to support such bands as, Smoking Hearts, Verses, Rat Attack, Canterbury and Roadrunner Records new comers Marmozets.

2014 came the name change and the debut EP ‘Epilogue.’ We make music because we’ve all grown up around creative bands and their heart-full songs. That makes you want to pick up an instrument and keep music going. We also do this because when we’re told our songs have so much people can relate to and have even stopped self harming that’s enough to fill you with joy and carry on. Becoming a bigger known band could have the same effect on others and is a massive goal in camp Never Hill.

Becoming a larger known band is what we’d love to achieve alongside tours with signed bands/artist, to be in the rock charts, play festivals & be able to headline a tours.

You have a new release coming out soon – without giving too much away tell us what listeners can expect from it?

People can Expect catchy Rock/pop songs, with a few cohabitations here and there. You are going to want to jump around from start to finish.

Plans for the next 12 months?

Working closely with Hold tight PR, Tour the UK with some up and coming band, re-release our debut EP, Release a new single along with an official video and to play/support other bands shows all to help boost morale and gain new fans to our family.

Tell us a bit about what it's like to experience your live show.

We like to involve the people that are watching us to have a great time, that being to jump in time with the band, to make them set a beautiful scene by throwing their phone lights or lighters in the air during a song in the set. Expect a lot of movement from the guys on stage. Coming to a Never Hill show should end up with sweaty clothing and red faces, re-singing our catchy lyrics that get stuck in your head. How does the band prepare for a gig?

We always spend up to 12 hours in a studio running through the set for the gig, and coming up with performance ideas for each song i.e. synchronised jumps. There is also the promo side, we hit all social media sites to sell tickets and speak to people about the upcoming show. After load in and sound checks we always go for food together, talk about the show, and before hitting the stage we group together and pray we have a great show.

Name 3 bands you would love to tour with and why

You Me At Six – this is a band all members enjoy listening to and going to watch shows. We style some of our song writing from YMAS but turn it into our own, being able to tour with this band would be a dream come true.

Deaf Havana – We are big supporters of Deaf Havana and have been from the start. We get told that we sound like them and we would work well on a tour with them.

The 1975 – Another band people say we sound like, but more upbeat and added rock. Again we like to style some of our songs from them. Also by touring with this band we’d be able to interest different people into listening to our work.

DIVIDES, a female fronted band.  If you love Twin Atlantic or Biffy Clyro this is something for you.

How much has the internet and technology helped your band to get to the point it is today?

It is a massive thing for us and all other bands. We have been able to get people from different parts of the globe to listen to us and even buy our merch. It’s helped for tickets sales to our shows too. We have been able to grow and do better things due to people being interesting in us and find us via the internet.

Tell us a bit about your band – how long have you been going, why you do what you do, what you want to achieve.

We've been together officially since January 2013 and since the day we all got in a room together it just kind of felt right. We were all making music that we felt suited us as people, we just wanted to make music we loved and that connected well with our listeners.

We want, and have always wanted, to achieve a band that connected and supported all of the things we love about music as a listener. We were always about creating something that stemmed naturally and then getting it out to as many people as we could, and share what we love with everybody.

When we think about writing and releasing songs we want to deliver a wide spectrum of elements. Baring that in mind, our last single 'If I Fall' was our heaviest release to date, so we want to show our fans that we still have the clean side of Adelphia too!

We've experienced a tough few months with changing band members and our sound, so the next 12 months are going to be spent writing, recording, playing shows and just getting back on our feet and Adelphia back out there. We definitely have something to prove this time round!

It's a more fun and comedy filled version of our studio stuff. We like to make each show unique so we try to switch things up to keep it as original as possible!

How does the band prepare for a gig?

We spend a fair amount of time in a rehearsal space prepping the set and our sound, as well as what unique qualities we could bring forward to the upcoming shows we are prepping for. Then, we refine everything until we are happy or run out of time!

We would love to tour with bands that influenced us to write and make this kind of music; bands like You Me At Six, Mallory Knox and Deaf Havana.

It would have to be dirt, these guys were our favourite band on our first ever tour, and they are the nicest guys with a great sound. Give them a listen and see for yourself what the hype is about!

How much has the internet and technology helped your band to get to the point it is today? Substantially, to be honest! The internet, and more directly, all social media platforms have grown our fan base massively. Some of the achievements we have made up until this point have been thanks to the internet!

I'm listening to alot of Sia and the new Don Broco stuff which is great! Both artists are very differant from each other but we, as a band, like to maintain diversity in influence!

We always try to have as much fun as possible on stage and make it infectious to the crowd, Circle head banging and big stupid smiles, then all out carnage including shredding, crispy breakdowns and 80s solos. It’s a high energy stage show to say the least

How does the band prepare for a gig? Couple of casual beers and gymnastic stretching to get the old bones moving then we get unnecessarily hyped and take to the stage.

Veil of maya – Because the new album is ridiculous and has got us well back into metal as we’ve been listening to far too much hip-hop

Oceano – just so brutally heavy and a mad presence on stage.

Lorna Shore – as were a similar genre and there one of our favorite bands doing it hard at the moment.

How much has the internet and technology helped your band to get to the point it is today? The internet is the sole reason we are where we are today, in this digital age we rely heavily on our online presence to gain fans and exposure to new audiences, while trying to create strong online personalities parallel to our music. By utilizing these tools it allows to keep people engaged with a range of different media.

Tell us a bit about your band – how long have you been going, why you do what you do, what you want to achieve.

We’ve been a band now for roughly 4 and a half years. We were a group of School friends who started playing music together in a old and battered warehouse. After a few months together we decided to venture out and play some shows, nobody was more surprised than us at how well they went! We’ve continued making music since then, and it's a total labor of love. It’s hard to explain to people why you spend hours of your life, hundreds of your hard earned pounds, and all your time, effort and patience to be in a band. It’s hard to nail it down to a formula or phrase, but for that half an hour you're on stage, or when that riff or chorus comes together, and you’re all on the same wavelength, that’s when you know why you do it. If we can tour, play shows and write music, that we’re proud of, and people enjoy, pretty sure that would be enough for us. That, and playing on Jools Holland.

I hate when bands give this answer, but, it's a more adult and mature version of what we’ve released before. We recorded an album, and ended up scrapping it. It had some ace songs on there, some really strong ideas. It just didn’t click as an overall body of work. So we ‘went back to the drawing board’ and really focussed on song writing and trying to get the basics right. All four of us love Riff’s and Big Choruses, so we decided to try and fill and album full of those. The album’s called - = + (less is more) and we wanted this theme to run through everything in the album, The Artwork, Videos, Song Names. We complicated things a touch the first time round, so this time we were adamant to get things right.

Plans for the next 12 months?

Our plans for the next twelve months are pretty simple. Play to as many people as we possibly can. We’ve been sat on this record for twelve months now, and we cannot wait to get it out to people and show them what we’ve worked so hard on.

Tell us a bit about what it's like to experience your live show. Although members have changed from the start of the band, the ethos has always remained the same. We take what we do very seriously, but not for a second do we take ourselves seriously. This is totally reflected in our live shows, we want to nail the songs live, we want people to come away saying how ace the set sounded, and how much fun they had. We are there to put on a show and entertain people, and that’s what we aim to do. The more Sweating, Moshing, Singing and Crowd Surfing, the better.

How does the band prepare for a gig? In all honesty, i’d like to tell you we drink copious amounts of alcohol, make totally ridiculous rider requests and act like complete idiots prior to playing, when in reality what actually happens is we drink water, eat fruit and then act like complete idiots. We aren’t rock and roll in anyway in that sense. we’re all quite health conscious and just want to make sure we smash our set, and then continue to act like idiots once we’ve walked off stage too.

Name 3 bands you would love to tour with and why Questions like this are always difficult. I think we’d have to go with three of the best bands ever. Rage Against The Machine. Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin. Pretty sure most Rock and Good Pop Music wouldn’t sound the way it does without those two, and Rage Against The Machine have one of the strongest back catalogues of Riffs ever made. We’d learn about incredible song writing from Fleetwood Mac, We’d learn about Energy and Delivery from RATM, and hopefully Zeppelin could help us be a little more Rock and Roll, haha!

ACODA. Ace music. Ace Riffs and some of the nicest people we’ve met through playing music.

How much has the internet and technology helped your band to get to the point it is today? The Internet has been massive, and it is for every band nowadays. We can reach such a wider audience than bands 10 or 15 years ago. Bands can put a music video online and within 24 hours, it’s been seen in 10 or more countries around the world. This, although on a much smaller scale, is the same for us. We’ve been able to reach people all over the country to promote the band and what we’re doing. We can let people know where we’re playing, and people are able to listen to us whenever we want. There are downsides to this, with people not bothering to come out to shows, when they can just click on youtube and see performances on there. For the most part, i think we’d say the internet's been great for us, and for music.

What's in your cd player right now?

We’re flicking through a couple of different albums at the moment. Besides The Ones We Love by Palm Reader has taken a real battering. That record is flawless, and AM by Arctic Monkeys is Fantastic, just don’t get bored of those songs.

Tell us a bit about your band – how long have you been going, why you do what you do, what you want to achieve.

History:

Brightlight City, in its current line up, have been together since December 2013. 

Jamie (vocals) and Justin (Guitars) are brothers and have been writing and performing music since their early teens. After playing in various bands from Hardcore to Indie, they never found the committed members that shared their creative enthusiasm and love for making and performing music, until they started to write with Jamie’s best friend Jono. 

.Jono had emigrated with his family when he was 14 and him and Jamie always kept in contact, after leaving Uni he decided to return to the country of his birth and to immerse himself in the London music scene. He started writing with Jamie and Justin all 3 united with the aim of creating great rock songs, with pop hooks and melodies sprinkled with hardcore riffs. Dan (bass) soon was found via mutual friends and the missing part of the jig saw, Ben (drums), came in and added the pulse pounding rhythm foundation that the songs were crying out for.

Aims:

They aim to make recording, writing and performing their full time job, as Brightlight City not only love creating the music they write, they live for music. They breathe it every day, pro-actively working on raising their profile via numerous gigs and tours, a constant presence on social networks and most importantly releasing a stream of songs every few months.

Brightlight City have a new EP called ‘Adventures’ coming out on May 15th 2015. It is an EP, as the title suggests, that takes the listener on an adventure; stories of late nights, life, death, love and society all set against the instrumental back drop of a massive alternative rock sound.

Plans for the next 12 months?

Brightlight City will be going on a tour starting end of April and finishing end of May, in support of the ‘Adventures’ EP. During this time a video for ‘The Finish Line’ will also be released.

The band will then head back into the studio to record a mini album of 7 songs (already written) with Producer Jason Wilson (You Me at Six, Reuben, Fightstar, We Are The Ocean).

Then they will continue to eviscerate audiences with their dazziling live shows.

A Brightlight City live show can be described in 5 words;

Energetic, Enthusiastic, Passionate, Sparkling, Vital.

How does the band prepare for a gig?

Apart from the usual Tai Chi and yoga ;-) (joke) each member prepares differently. Ben (drums) feverishly taps away rhythms and drum patterns, Dan (bass) and Jamie (Vocals) hit the bar for a drink, Jono (Guitars) and Justin (guitars) sit and discuss guitar effects, football and latest film releases.

Name 3 bands you would love to tour with and why

Biffy Clyro – Always have and always be an influence on us. Their live performance is second to none, truly inspiring.

Foo Fighters – They are just legends, plus Dave Grohl comes across as the most down-to-earth, chilled guy. We all own every Foos record and absolutely adored their ‘Sound City’ and ‘Sonic Highways’ documentaries.

Refused – Just absolutely brilliant live, we all got into ‘The Shape of Punk to come’ after they split, but it is truly an amazing album. Full of bruising riffs, grooves that you can’t help but move to, and a sense of freedom in the influences and genres that bleed across the all the tracks on the album.

We are all really into the Xcerts at the moment, their album ‘There is only You’ is superb. People should definitely check them out.

How much has the internet and technology helped your band to get to the point it is today.

The Internet has been incredibly useful in helping us reach out to a worldwide audience, through our social networks we can see that we have people from Japan to Mexico, to Germany to Australia listening to our music on a weekly basis.

It also allows us to connect and speak to fans of our music, we recently did a free give away on Twitter and the response was insane, sending signed CDs and posters all over the world is a truly humbling, yet special experience.

The support of the internet and social networks is so important for us as it has given us a platform to launch Brightlight City.

Tell us a bit about your band – how long have you been going, why you do what you do, what you want to achieve. Tengger Cavalry initially started in 2010. Within the past 4 years, we have released four albums in US and EU regions, recording one album every year. As a Mongolian metal band, we try to combine our own nomadic tradition and culture with modern heavy metal sound, creating our own genre – Mongolian folk metal. As many European folk metal bands, we would love to share the world our own culture and musical tradition, and celebrate Mongolian nomadic culture with the world.

You have a new release coming out soon – without giving too much away tell us what listeners can expect from it? People will hear the musical balance between Mongolian folk and metal developed from the 2014 album Ancient Call but also with more primal Shamanism music tradition such as the shaman bell and shaman chant. In this album, you will hear a symphony of Mongolian fiddle, Mongolian lute, throat singing, shaman drum, didgeridoo and diverse ethnic musical tradition.

Plans for the next 12 months? I can't say it yet. But we definitely want to tour in EU and US. As you know for an Asian band we are still growing our audience and it is such a high risk to tour without enough audience base.

Tell us a bit about what it's like to experience your live show. Our live concert is like a Mongolian ritual, with Mongolian decorations on our instruments. And the throat singing, deaths vocal with Mongolian fiddle provide you a total pagan atmosphere.

Name 3 bands you would love to tour with and why Eluveitie, Turisas, Ensiferum. They are all amazing folk metal bands that incorporate their ethnic tradition into metal music.

Name a band you'd love to give a shout out to and think people should listen to (not your own band) Nine Treasures, they are another metal band from Inner Mongolia that combines Mongolian music tradition into metal.

How much has the Internet and technology helped your band to get to the point it is today? It becomes very easy to get in touch with our fans overseas, in Germany, France, America, Brazil and Turkey. People can enjoy our new songs just by streaming online, and buying merch if they like, which is really a good thing for both my fans and band itself, for this is how you expand your audience and let more people know what are you trying to say in your music.

Tell us a bit about your band – how long have you been going, why you do what you do, what you want to achieve.

We have been writing and playing together for close to 4 years now but we only launched ‘Eva Plays Dead’ at the beginning of 2013 after we were certain that we were completely happy with what we would be putting out – we didn’t want to rush. Since then we’ve been touring, writing, recording and touring some more, which has put us in front of sold out underground venues, packed out festival tents and has introduced us to some of the coolest people we know. Some of these people have travelled hundreds of miles to come and see us (From Scotland to Derby, for example), bought our albums, bought our merchandise and have helped spread our music which we’re insanely thankful for – this kind of stuff keeps us going. We write for ourselves, but the fact that people come to our shows and have a fucking awesome time, relate to our music and still want more is enough of a reason to work as hard as we do. We want our music to reach as far as it can and we want people to enjoy it as much as we do.

Loud. Raucous. Raw. It’s a re-introduction to Eva Plays Dead. Since releasing our debut album ‘Guilt Trips & Sins’ we have wrote at least 2 more albums worth of material but we wanted a concise, no bullshit 5 track EP which summarizes how our sound has developed since the first release. It’s darker and a lot punchier but still maintains the energy of our older music.

New songs. New music videos. New cover videos. New tours. New haircuts.

Tell us a bit about what it's like to experience your live show.

We’re loud. Really loud. When we go to gigs we love feeling the kick drum in our chest, practically feeling the air being pushed from the cabs and the smell of amp valves being pushed hard, so we want to make that happen at our shows. If Tig isn’t in the crowds face, Zach isn’t shouting obscenities and Matt isn’t hanging from or climbing on part of the rig or building infrastructure then you’re not at an Eva Plays Dead gig. We want everyone who has taken time from their lives and parted with their money to see us to have a fucking awesome time so we put in 110% and involve them fully in the show.

How does the band prepare for a gig?

Alongside Dutch courage, we like to get amongst the crowd and check out the other bands to get the vibe for the gig. If there is a wicked atmosphere then it’s easy to get up on stage and bounce off of the crowd’s energy. If there isn’t much of a buzz, then we put in 110% anyway and create one. Alongside pre gig prep such as promotion and rehearsals, once we’re all loaded in we each have our own warm ups to make sure we can actually play our instruments instead of just smashing things around on the stage and making noise.Seb’s practice pad doesn’t leave his side for the hour before our set.

Name 3 bands you would love to tour with and why

-Halestorm – Big rock hooks. Drum solos with oversized sticks. When we wrote our new material we concentrated on creating choruses that were in your face yet catchy and this is something that Halestorm nail.

-Marmozets – Insane crowds. We’ve always considered ourselves a live band that will entertain and make you leave, hot, sweaty and wanting more. When we saw Marmozets at Download festival we experienced that exact feeling.

-In This Moment – Their live show is awesome. ITM put on a theatrical show and tells the audience a story. Being a part of production of this scale would be incredible.

Name a band you'd love to give a shout out to and think people should listen to (not your own band)

If you haven’t heard of them yet, you need to check out Max Raptor. They’re down the road from us and have toured with The Stranglers, Billy Talent and most recently The Subways. Their stage show is fucking awesome. Their tracks are massive. We played a show with them recently at The Tower Brewery in Burton (basically just a massive rock ‘n’ roll piss up) where guys were jumping off the rafters and crowdsurfing.

How much has the internet and technology helped your band to get to the point it is today?

The internet is a massive tool when promoting ourselves as it has made the music world a whole lot smaller. We can get in touch with anyone and say ‘Listen to our music.’ You’ve just got to put the time in and remember not to be lazy by sending out generic automated emails/tweets as we like to make social media interaction personal when introducing ourselves.

It’s also really helpful that we now have the capability to record our own demos at home when songwriting and before heading into the studio thanks to studio technology becoming more accessible. It lets us explore our creativity outside of the practice room (partly responsible for our developing sound) and prepare for tracking our new songs.

Tell us a bit about your band – how long have you been going, why you do what you do, what you want to achieve.

Track and Field has been in it’s current line up for around 6 months, but the bands conception was around a year before that. Each member of Track and Field has a long history of music and playing in many bands over the years and I guess at this stage we wanted to move onto a new project where we were able to explore the melodic side of music. In terms of our goals as a band, I’d say we want to write some good songs, write some good records, play some good shows and to produce music that excites us and hopefully excites other people too.

You have a new release coming out soon – without giving too much away tell us what listeners can expect from it.

The release is called ‘You Are My Home’. You can expect four songs that are a culmination of over a decade of lyrical themes, melodic ideas and progressions that offer an ambiguous insight into things such as anxiety, alcohol, dead end jobs, relationships and the idea of home.

Plans for the next 12 months?

Plans for the next 12 months are simple really. A UK tour, finish writing the album, record the album, other UK shows and maybe a short trip to Europe.

Tell us a bit about what it's like to experience your live show.

I guess it’s hard to say as I’ve never actually seen it. I’ll just say it’s five dudes giving it some. Come down and see for yourselves.

How does the band prepare for a gig?

Each band member is quite different. Personally I like to be outside having a few drinks and chatting, take a couple of deep breaths and get on stage. Some of the guys like to sit and get in tune and warm up for a while, so we have really individual approaches on the night of the performance, but prior to that we always make sure we have at least a couple of hours rehearsal the night before, because it’s important to us that we can be as tight as possible on the night.

Name 3 bands you would love to tour with and why.

Iron Maiden, Meat Loaf and Taylor Swift because all three would be ridiculous.

There are too many to choose from, but I’ll go with ‘Hawk Eyes’. These lads more affectionately remembered as ‘Chicken Hawk’ have been on the scene for years. I remember going to see these guys play when I was about sixteen and they’re still at it now, playing some huge tours and festivals. A band that have really put the graft in and deserve the praise. Check them out.

How much has the internet and technology helped your band to get to the point it is today?

We can’t afford to not recognise how significant the internet is in our everyday lives, I mean not even as a tool for Track and Field to distribute our music, but as a means for us to communicate and to stay organised. The significant advancements in music technology over the last couple of years have equally played a huge role in our journey to date. Having the facility to record demo versions in my home studio for example hugely aids the writing process for the band.

To maintain a cool guy chic, I’ll go with what’s been on my turntable. Most recent has actually been the Track and Field test press, but prior to that the last three were, The Van Pelt, The B-52s and Insect Warfare.

Tell us a bit about your band – how long have you been going, why you do what you do, what you want to achieve.

Hogslayer was created in 2012 from the remains of instrumentalists Zonderhoof with the addition of a vocalist, formerly of Shaped By Fate.

The aim was to create stipped-down, slow and heavy music. Over time, the band is evolved into something darker and more sinister.

The band’s latest release is a step in a heavier and darker direction, switching from two guitarists and one bassist to two bassists and one guitarist.

The band’s live shows have become a spectacle that demands your attention and participation. Like a bastardised ceremony mocking all religious hypocrisy, observers feel violated just witnessing it.

We work to bring this spurious worship to more towns, cities and countries as time goes on and to bring dread and unease to more people with our music.

Slow and filthy doom-ridden sludge characterised by its atonal dissonance and two bass players.

It’s dark, mesmerising and unrelentingly bleak.

Tell us a bit about what it's like to experience your live show.

Our shows are a ritual and the audience are our depraved, degenerate congregation. The acrid aroma of incense fills your nose and throat. As the air is filled with the low, rumbling vibrations and beating of a gong you become part of our abhorrent liturgy.

How does the band prepare for a gig?

We adorn our faces with ritualistic black war-paint, along with those amongst the audience who show they submit themselves willingly, as we burn blackened opium incense.

Tell us a bit about your band – how long have you been going, why you do what you do, what you want to achieve.

dirt began when Nik and Abdul decided to move their search for band members from Liverpool to a nationwide search. They moved to London to find more people and over about a year of auditions Dan Kidney (Guitar) and Perry Sinclair (Drums) joined the group bringing their own elements to the band. An extensive and exhaustive search then started for someone to front the band. After auditioning well over 150 people, constant online searching, holding massive ‘vocalist wanted’ signs outside gigs, flyering what seemed like every rehearsal studio in London and Music Universities, news broke that Taking Hayley had recently split and a simple message to Taking Hayley’s vocalist Alistair Keenan nailed us our singer! We released the band late 2014 and have been trying to storm our way through the ranks to make a name for ourselves. We aim to achieve everything we’ve dreamt of since we were kids.

You have a new release coming out soon – without giving too much away tell us what listeners can expect from it?

Our next single ‘insomnia’ is moving in the direction we want our sound to evolve into and we’re all really happy that we’ve managed create the idea in our heads a reality.

We aim to really solidify our name in the UK alternative scene playing as many gigs as we can. So far we’re confirmed for Takedown Festival and Camden Rocks fest, as well as being a part of the ‘Hometown Brodown’ tour with lots of cool bits to be announced for later in the year!

We hope our live show puts across our passion and energy for the songs we create, mixed with a lot of sweat, a hopefully lesser amount of blood, and some tears for the all the right reasons.

How does the band prepare for a gig?

We’re not really ones to down a few shots or anything crazy pre-gig, but we make sure to warm up and get in the zone, maybe play through a couple tracks acoustically.

Tell us a bit about your band – how long have you been going, why you do what you do, what you want to achieve.

Most of the members in Halo Tora have played in previous touring bands, so when we formed we really brought together parts of the sound of each of our previous bands. We work hard honing the sound and with us all being perfectionists we spend hours in the studio analysing sections. Our immediate goals are simple, we want to release our debut single followed by our debut album and have as many people hear it as possible and we want to play live for everyone who is into the music. We already have ideas floating around for a second album so we’d really like to continue into another record.

This band is an obsession for us; it’s what we think about 24 hours a day. Writing the music, booking shows etc is something we have to do on a daily basis. There is a feeling in the band just now that failure is just not an option.

You have a new release coming out soon – without giving too much away tell us what listeners can expect from it.

The track that we selected is called Age Of Terror. We chose this as our single because it covers quite a lot of what we do. We have two singers in the band and we are always trying to think of new ways to utilise the voices as well as creating atmosphere and aggression. With Age Of Terror we feel we captured a bit of it all.

Plans for the next 12 months?

The next 12 months are going to be exciting, we are aiming to place the album, release it and tour it. We are hoping to have a busy festival season also. Our tour dates up till the summer are filling up now and we are looking at doing a few weeks around the UK.

Tell us a bit about what it's like to experience your live show.

We try to change things up live quite a bit. Sometimes you’ll see us in a club style venue and other times we try to challenge ourselves by playing non rock band venues such as old theatres etc. There is some nice footage of us online playing a place called the Cottiers Theatre in Glasgow with a huge screen projecting the movie ‘Koyaanisqatsi’ behind us. That was a great show and everyone was seated so it was a bit of a visual experience as well. We are huge fans of the ‘rock venue’ though so you never know where we’ll be.

How does the band prepare for a gig?

We like to do our preparations in the rehearsal room in advance, so at the shows we like to hangout with everyone that has come to the show, check out the other bands on the bill and have a few refreshments...

Name 3 bands you would love to tour with and why.

Going to go with three completely different bands here:

1. Arcane Roots. They are lovely lads but most of all they are an incredible three piece. Their songs are excellent and Andrew’s voice is incredible!

2. Mogwai. Fellow Scots, and they are amongst the top live bands out there. Not much needs said about those guys.

3. Tool. Epic riffery! If we had to choose we’d probably pick this one. An awesome band and just think of the size of the venues!

Really looking forwards to hearing the More Dangerous Animal album. We played in London with the guys and they were excellent live.

How much has the internet and technology helped your band to get to the point it is today?

I think first hurdle of being in a band is finding an audience and the internet has made this much easier. I (Chris Alexander) am still a huge fan of discovering bands at live shows and buying a physical album that I can hold, however Ian McCall in the band much prefers to be able to stream high quality as he can access anything, anytime. For us though it has really helped and when we hear that we are being played in South America, USA and Europe, you’ve really got to thank the internet for that.

Tell us a bit about your band – how long have you been going, why you do what you do, what you want to achieve. Eschar started as a project 4 years ago whilst we were all in Uni. We were lucky enough to all be on exactly the same wave-length and knew immediately what we wanted from the band. It was an unwritten rule from the start that there would be no compromises in our vision and sound, and that an honest passion for creating music that excites us, with artistic integrity at its core, was and is the foundation for our music. Ultimately what we want to achieve is creative fulfilment and for anyone that is interested to get a kick from our music!

You have a new release coming out soon – without giving too much away tell us what listeners can expect from it. Progression. We mean that in every sense of the word. When compared with our first release ‘Elements’ we all believe this is a serious step up. It’s bigger, more expansive, far better produced and has had a lot more care and attention lavished on it at every point! It is 55 minutes of intricate riffs, big melodies, thick chord progressions and grooves to make you grin!  

Plans for the next 12 months Do everything we can to get our new album ‘Nova’ into the ears of every person who would be interested! We have a launch show booked and are self-releasing the album. We’re currently smack bang in the middle of confirming shows and touring plans, although we are confirmed for this years ArcTanGent Festival which is incredibly exciting and honest dream come true!

Tell us a bit about what it’s like to experience your live show. A collective goal and necessity for us is to be as tight as possible live. When playing instrumental music the focus is entirely on your playing as there is no ‘front man’ to distract the audience and you are laid completely bare! Everybody knowing the complete ins and outs of the music is a must and this translates live.

How does the band prepare for a gig? We all do the standard warm-ups on our instruments before we go on stage and make sure we are mentally as prepared as possible. Before it gets to that though, George can often be found in a corner book in hand, Rory and Sam are often around taking various photos and Rob is sure to be getting a ridiculous score on whatever new iPhone game he is rinsing that week.

Name 3 bands you would love to tour with and why. Karnivool - They are a massive influence on every member of Eschar. The stunning musicianship and quality of their songwriting never ceases to amaze! TOOL - Because quite simply they are the best band on the planet. Cloudkicker - Because aside from the obvious links in regards to the kind of music we play, it would only be his 2nd tour so far and would genuinely be an honour.

Name a band you’d love to give a shout out to and think people should listen to (not your own band) Atiptoe - They are one of our absolute favourite bands and great friends. If you want to hear a unique blend of energetic rock, odd time signatures and intricate, groovy riffs; then you should probably check them out!

How much has the internet and technology helped your band to get to the point it is today. The internet, to put it bluntly, has been essential. There is just no way we would have been able to reach some of the people around the world that we have, without that access. Our first release ‘Elements’ is up for pay what you want on Bandcamp and because of this, we really encouraged people to share it with anyone they feel might get something from it. Because of this we saw people coming to our bandcamp to buy physical merch, that had previously only downloaded our record for free. Shipping merch to places as far as New Zealand, China and multiple places throughout the US was not only mind-blowing but quite frankly only possible because of the internet and therefore people’s easy access to our music.

HELLOOOOOoooooo. If you don't know me, I'm Matt, and well, I've had the unenviable task of dealing with James and Lisa here at HoldTight! for the best part of a year now. Here's me saying hello, hard at work. Please excuse the crappy quality and godawfully cheesy grin.

Anyway, we at HT HQ thought we'd start a series of more personal blogs, giving a bit of an insight into what we do. Seeing as I'm nearing my 1-year PR birthday, I thought I'd use this chance to reflect back on a fast and furious 2014...

I’ve never pretended that landing in this crazy space known as the music industry was anything other than a combination of good luck and timing. For most of my time at uni, working ‘in the industry’ was always a second thought, with the idea of PR specifically even further behind. One thing I was sure of, though, was that if I followed the music I was obsessed with, all would eventually fall into place.

I guess it says much about this last year that I can’t now imagine myself anywhere other than in this weird and wonderful arena of music PR. I’m nearing my 1-year anniversary of working with/for this Mötley Crüe full-time, though it simultaneously seems like a lifetime and a week gone combined.

Probably one of the hardest questions that I have to answer is that ever-present ‘so what do you actually do? Like, what is your average working day?’ The dull and clichéd answer is that every day really is different (no, really). Each week we’re juggling about a thousand different things at once, each clamouring for importance above the other. Pitching, writing press releases, emailing emailing emailing, meetings, planning for the future, building on the past, emailing, networking, chaperoning bands, emailing, you name it. After a year of thinking about it, almost certainly the most essential skill needed, I reckon, is being able to concentrate on everything simultaneously, preparing and holding on for the most manic moments when suddenly – and despite all your careful planning and timetabling – all the work hits at once. (Well, maybe not the most essential, but that’s a time for another blog).

(E.g. being aware of your own failings helps too).

That isn’t to say there aren’t quiet moments – they definitely do occur, from time to time – but in typical Sod’s Law fashion it only makes the busier moments busier. And thank God. Frenziedly working on almost-too-many albums at once where each album makes your ears –gasm is one of the most exhilarating feelings I can think of. Ultimately, as I knew way back in Uni – the music is always the most important thing. Love the music to obsession and you’re halfway there in selling it already.

When I was offered the option of doing this full-time, a wise old soul gave me some great advice: ‘make sure you know exactly why you want to do this, because we sure as hell don’t do it for the money. But – if you make the right choices, this’ll is the perfect job’. He wasn’t wrong: in its own way this is a job that feels like a hobby, and ultimately that makes all the late nights and rushed moments worth it.

I guess the two best things about working in the crazy world of music PR are that I’m able to play even a small part in allowing music I love to be heard more widely, and creatively connecting with so many musically like-minded individuals. If this appeals, if you love nothing more than sharing music and bringing people together as a result, then hell, why not try it – this could be you, writing this blog in a year or so.

Tell us a bit about your band – how long have you been going, why you do what you do, what you want to achieve. 

The band has been together since late 2012. Our drummer 'P1' and our ex guitar Player Andre made music together in other genres for the last four or five years. In early 2012 our guitar player and singer 'P2' came in the band and changed the style of music and the direction to the style we do it now. They searched for a vocalist and frontman. I was in other bands before and they knew me from a local band that I was in at that time, so they contacted me and we met. I loved the style of music and left my other band. Neberu was born. Until today we changed the bass player and one guitarist. We are still friends to our ex-members as we all think it was the best for the band and for the people personally.

With the members we have now, Neberu is ready to reach the next level.

We do what we do because we love this style of music. Each one of us comes from a totally different music background and listens to other music and genres. We try to mix everything we like with modern elements and get it into the metal scene. We want to combine metalcore  with our own influences and mix it up with technical aspects, because that’s the style of music that makes us the most fun.

The band is everything for us and we want to climb the stairs as high as possible. Naturally, we want to achieve everything we can with this band because that’s all that we love and all that we live for.

Sounds massive! I think we've reached a new level as a band, more aggression, more destruction and more ass-kicking! It’s the best music we have written to date and we hope our fans will like it too! It’s a bit different to our old stuff and we have a little feature on it, so expect to be surprised. We can’t wait to show it to you guys!

Plans for the next 12 months?

We are writing our first full length right now. And want to release it in 2015! Furthermore we want to play as many shows as we can play and go on tour as much as we can! We want to reach as many new listeners and fans as we can, to get our music all over the world.

Tell us a bit about what it's like to experience your live show. 

It’s like a mental rollercoaster ride, from going insane to feeling invincible, being close to death to being born, or from falling deep into a hole to flying high to the sky. All of this mixed with a massive destructive performance. For real it’s not only a live show it’s an adventure we want to show to the whole world.

How does the band prepare for a gig?

Practice, practice, practice! No, for real, when we are in a location behind the stage shortly before we head out, each one of us goes into ourselves and can be very calm and quiet... But when our intro hits, we all have a transformation like getting brainwashed and each one of us becomes a different character, like totally driving insane and completely freaking out. Normally, the rest of our time, we are really friendly guys who love to drink a beer with our fans at the merchtable haha.

 Name 3 bands you would love to tour with and why

Slipknot - because this band is the reason I am making music today. I grew up with their songs, they are my total childhood heroes! I think Corey Taylor is the best frontman of all time and Slipknot are one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen.

Architects- because I think they are one of the best bands of our time, their music and songwriting is not only music, it’s really art. It feels like I am sinking in a complete different world when I listen to them.

Volumes – one of the best technical bands of all times, great musicians, great performance and I love the new record. It is the perfect mix between progressive heavy parts and slow beautiful atmospherics.

Name a band you'd love to give a shout out to and think people should listen to (not your own band)

Yeah we would love to give a shout out to our bro’s in Breathe Atlantis. They are really good friends of us, we shared the stage so many times and they are awesome people. I think they are one of Germany’s best upcoming Postcore/Poprock bands. So keep an eye on them! Also we would love to give a shout out to our friends in Modern Day Babylon. We played together in Münster on their last tour, love was in the air haha! They are great guys and perfect musicians, definitely one of the biggest bands in future I think.

How much has the internet and technology helped your band to get to the point it is today?

The internet is one of the most important facts in our really young career as a band. Without the Internet we wouldn’t had the opportunity to show our music to this high number of listeners. We wouldn’t have a record deal and we wouldn’t have the chance to reach people in other countries. But I think it’s the same for every band at our level, because the music business really changed in the last years and for example pressed CD’s don’t have this important status today as they had ten years ago. Most of the bands connect with people over the internet and showing their music over the internet today. It wouldn’t be possible to show people from other countries our music without the internet. The technology of band equipment for example is another fact that is really important to us. Without this modern technology we wouldn’t have the live sound we have today and it would be much harder to create a sound like we have today without this technology.
