i am 100% convinced that mobile phone/ social media bans for under 16s are an attempt to remove kids and teens from public life. this is not protecting kids this is locking them in houses with no escape from their abusers. the world is so hostile to teenagers rn
I do so much drawing in the offseason while I wait for hockey to come back.
the audacity of this man to radiate that much elegance
I don't come here often, but this was such a Tumblr-worthy drawing I have to put it here

Hello, tumblr! I saw something on here the other day that worried me, so I decided to Do Science about it. But I can't do it alone: I need your help to build the dataset!
Here's what I need you to do:
If you see a post with a "mature content" label, and it's 2026, DM me a link to the post.
Yes, that's really it.
I am hoping to collect several thousand such posts, so that I have a decent sized dataset. I do not care what the post is about; if it's labeled as "mature content", I want to add it to my dataset.
If I get 10,000 posts in my dataset before August 31st 2026, I will post my preliminary findings then. I won't feel comfortable calling my findings "settled" before 2027, unless I get over 50,000 posts.
Tumblr Science FAQ: The "Null Hypothesis"
I intentionally haven't talked about what hypothesis I'm testing, because that would bias the submissions I get. That's also why I asked for so many.
But plenty of people have talked about my hypotheses, both complaining that I did not post them and speculating about what they might be. And between that and thinking it over, I have decided that I can talk about the "null hypothesis" without introducing bias. So here we go.
What is a "Null Hypothesis", anyways?
The null hypothesis is what you would expect to be the case if you don't find what you're looking for. If you're doing a statistics class assignment to find out if there is a relationship between a person's height and their shoe size, your null hypothesis is that there is no relationship (or at least not a meaningful relationship). If you're doing a study on whether Tumblr moderation and mature-content labeling is biased against trans women, your null hypothesis is that Tumblr moderation is not measurably biased against trans women.
Okay, so what's your null hypothesis, then?
So, we all probably think we have a good understanding of how the Mature Content Label system is supposed to work here on tumblr, right?
By default, post are "for everyone".
The author can mark a post as "Mature Content". This adds a label that displays a clickthrough (for lots of people) that says "the author has indicated...".
Posts can also be marked as "Mature Content" by Tumblr. When this happens, the clickthrough says "Potentially Mature Content", but doesn't say that the author indicated it.
That's my null hypothesis: that the Mature Content Label works the way it says it does.
If it doesn't work that way, well, then I have to talk about what way I thought it would work instead. I need to talk about how I was looking for whether or not it worked that way and what I actually found regardless of whether it works that way, though.
if you will allow me to rpf post right now. thinking about how sidgeno very nearly became a tragedy makes my tummy hurts, and i'm not even talking about geno's contract in 2022 or 2026 (altho both times show the organization's lack of priority w him), but that if the penguins hadn't won the cup in 2016 they probably wouldn't have been allowed to stay teammates for another ten years. there's so many articles at the time saying that the team needed serious change, and slowly and surely the roster and staff had been changing trying to account for that, and i don't think geno or even letang for that matter would have been safe from trades. take any big hrpf ship and they almost always end up with one or both members leaving their original team (in more recent memory: 1634). when sid and geno talked about wanting to win and wanting to keep playing together both meant the same thing: it was only by winning that they would be able to remain in the same team. winning the cup in 2016, 2017 and then reaching the 2nd round in 2018 allowed that, and when the team lost their playoff streak this was one the big risks they were running. even during the 1st round in the playoffs after the penguins were very nearly swept everyone kept talking about how they didn't want this game to be the last geno played. playing as a team necessarily means winning as a team and was only by working to the bone that sid, geno and kris got to play 20 years together. this was never a given. they very nearly didn't get to do it. they had to fight for it.
